The Wikimedia Foundation has started a new project called New Editor Experiences. This project aims to learn more about what motivates new editors to start contributing, what experiences they have when do, and how experienced editors feel about new editors. This will give us ideas about how to develop better tools (such as software features and grant programs) to help new editors successfully join Wikipedia.

As part of this project, we are planning to visit South Korea to conduct in-person interviews with users who have recently started editing the Korean Wikipedia. We plan to contact these users by email and ask if they are willing to meet with us. Then, we will visit and interview those who are willing with the help of local researchers who speak Korean. In addition to new editors, we also plan to interview experienced editors who frequently interact with new editors.

To help us do this, we need to hire a recruiter who can communicate with potential participants and arrange the interviews. This person will need to be fluent in Korean and English and be available for 20-30 hours per week for around 2 months. The job will be paid and can be done from wherever you live. The trip has not yet been scheduled, but we estimate that it will take place around June. We will post more updates as our planning continues.

After the trip is complete, we will report publicly on our findings from this work. Since we hope that they will be particularly useful and interesting to this project, we will work to have them translated into Korean. After that, we will begin developing new tools based on these findings; we may ask for your help commenting on or testing these ideas.
