This page is dedicated to online training updates for new users organized by the Wikimedia Sudan User Group. The training is focusing mainly on editing Seeds articles in arabic wikipedia and contributing to wiki commons. Project page on Arabic Wikipedia

Background

Wikimedia Sudan User Group is a group of Sudanese living in Sudan and in the diaspora working to help bridge the content gaps about Sudan (and broadly Africa) on the web through the largest online Encyclopedia, The Wikimedia Sudan User Group was officially recognized in June 2020 and has actively organized events and activities such as Sudan Content Project, WikiGap, Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Women, and Wiki Loves Sudan. The group has attracted several newcomers, including Sudanese youth and students, and has participated in various conferences like WikiArabia and WikiIndaba. In 2022, the group hosted a local and online Wikimania conference. Additionally, it has worked on building partnerships with several universities and the Sudanese Library Association.

On 15 April 2023, war broke out in Sudan, which is still ongoing, resulting in over 11 million displaced people, marking the highest displacement rate in the world currently, along with a large number of refugees. This has significantly impacted the activities and continuity of the Wikimedia Sudan User Group.

The group members are now working towards resuming their operations by organizing both in-person and online activities.

New Users Training online

The goal of this activity is to inspire hope among Sudanese youth and training 50 new Sudanese users to various Wikimedia projects between 10th December 2024, to 18th January 2025.
