Background

During the meeting of executive directors of organizations affiliated with the Wikimedia movement, held in São Paulo, Brazil, between late November and early December 2025, several working sessions were held to address strategic issues impacting the Wikimedia movement.

One of the central themes of discussion was how to increase the interest and participation of young people in Wikimedia projects globally. Within this framework, during one of the working groups, representatives from WikiAction and Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand expressed their interest in developing a joint initiative that promotes cultural exchange and strengthens the connection between young Wikimedia users from both countries in order to positively impact the involvement of this population in Wikimedia projects and foster healthy and intercultural community environments.
