Participants from across India representing Indian language Wikimedia communities at TTT 2024.
  • Collaboration with the Govt.
Two Odia Wikimedians, Mrutyunjay Kar and Sangram Senapati, were invited by the language and culture department of the Odisha government, who, together, discussed future collaborations. Two members () met the minister and discussed the position of Odia Wikipedia and Odia Wikisource in July 2024 and suggested a standardized font by the Government of Odisha, on which the government has started working.
  • Co-hosted Train-the-Trainer program:
ODW collaborated with the Centre for Internet and Society's Access to Knowledge, hosting the 2024 Train-the-Trainer program⁣⁣ during 18-20 October 2024.

  • Wiki Technical Training 2024
Odia Wikimedians Chinmayee Mishra and Sangram Senapati participated in the national-level Wiki Technical training held at Chennai on 22-23 June gaining MediaWiki and other technical leadership training while Jananranjan Sahu joined as a trainer.
  • Participated in the 3rd Wikimedia Technology Summit (WTS 2024):
Three members joined the third Wikimedia Technology Summit (WTS 2024) held at Hyderabad, India, during October 2024, of which two received event scholarships.
  • Co-hosted Bhubaneswar Hack-a-thon:
The Odia Wikimedians User Group collaborated with the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group, hosting the Indic Wikimedia Hackathon Bhubaneswar 2024 during 20-22 December 2024.
  • Wikisource Conference 2025:
One of the user group members (User:Ssgapu22) joined the Wikisource Conference 2025 held at Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. During this event, he had interviewed a number of volunteers who attended the event and here is a teaser on Wikimedia commons.
  • 2024 Cure Award:
Odia Wikimedian Dr Subas Chandra Rout was awarded the "2024 Cure Award" and "The 2024 Cure Translators Award" by the WikiProject Med for being the most prolific medical translator of 2024, with 349* medicine-related articles created on Odia Wikipedia. The Odia Wikipedia articles remain the largest among all the Wikipedias in 32 languages where editors are contributing under the scope of this WikiProject, receiving 87,528* pageviews at the time of reporting.
  • Participated in Indic Oral Culture Wiki 2024-25 and joined the meet-up:
Odia Wikimedian Sangram Keshari Senapati had joined the project Indic Oral Culture Wiki 2024-25,⁣⁣ funded by the WMF, and uploaded 5 videos on Odia-language folk play and folk stories that were more than 1.5 hours long on Wikimedia Commons and participated in the in-person meetup held at Bangalore, India. During this meetup, he presented his journey along with a workshop on Lingua Libre. He has been a part of this project since 2022 and previously uploaded a number of photos, videos, and audio files of Odia-language folk songs, folk stories, etc.

Other Initiatives

The Odia Wikipedia is the open and biggest online platform to provide detailed data about the political history of Odisha. From the result declaration day, the Odia Wikimedians user group has started an edit-a-thon on Odia Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons to create and update data related to the 2024 Odisha Assembly election. The edit-a-thon is going, and more than 200 Wikidata items have been updated/created. The target is to update/create more than 400 Wikipedia articles.
  • Monthly Online call
The user group is organizing a monthly call on the last Sunday of every month, to discuss and share the work of the month, experiences and learnings.
The user group had restored the Ratha Jatra Edit-a-thon and Wiki Loves Ratha Jatra event on Wikimedia Commons. During this 9-days event in 2023 and conninued to organize the same this year in 2024. 5 articles had created on Odia Wikipedia and a total of 179 photo and videos from different places of Odisha (Puri, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Baripada, Nilagiri, Koraput, etc.) as well as out of India were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The twitter to Commons tool developed by Janaranjan Sahu was very useful during to this time for uploading photographs shared on the Twitter handles of Govt. of Odisha in CC-by-SA-4.0 license directly to Commons.
  • Organized Wikipedia Asian Month 2024 edit-a-thon
The Odia Wikipedia community participated in the 2024 Wikipedia Asian Month edit-a-thon. This event did well as compared to the previous year and 4 users had created 121 articles during this period.
  • Organized Wiki Loves Language 2024 edit-a-thon
The Odia Wikipedia community come up with a new initiative to create articles on languages. During this one-and-a-half-month event, 3 participants created a total of 75 articles.
  • Organized Feminism and Folklore 2025 edit-a-thon
Odia Wikipedia saw active community participation while returning to the 2025 edition of the annual Feminism and Folklore edit-a-thon. Ten Wikimedians created 69 new articles. Most of these articles were biographies of notable women helping bridge the gender gap on Odia Wikipedia.
Organized by Wikimedia Ukraine in cooperation with Ukrainian Institute and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, two Odia Wikimedians participated and created content for two articles on this theme.
  • Organized Odia Literature 2025 edit-a-thon
To improve articles related to Odia literature, the Odia Wikimedians user group had organized a 15 days long edit-a-thon from 1st April (Odisha Foundation Day) to 15th April (Odia New Year) from 2024 and this year, this event was continued during the same period. And during this period, 4 users had created 76 articles on Odia Books, Odia writers and poets.
  • Classical Odia Language Week 2025
The user group had organized an [edit-a-thon] on Odia Wikisource during the Odia Classical Language week from 9th March to 16th March in 2025. During this edit-a-thon, a total of editors joined the edit-a-thon and out of three newly donated books, done OCR and proofreading for two books.
