Abstract

[edit]

Wikidata is increasingly being used for publishing performing arts related data, both by heritage institutions and by representatives of the arts sector itself. In this webinar, we give an overview of the data model and the possibilities of representing performing arts related aspects on Wikidata. We also provide a glimpse of the next step following the publication of the data: the use of this data in the context of several types of applications.   The second part of the webinar is dedicated to discussing projects of participants who are intending to publish performing arts related data on Wikidata. Participants are invited to share their project ideas with the organizers ahead of the webinar or to bring them up directly during the webinar.

Goals

[edit]
  • The participants get an overview of what type of performing arts related data is currently being published on Wikidata and how this data is being used in the context of applications.
  • The participants get an overview of the possibilities afforded by the data model currently implemented on Wikidata.
  • The participants learn where to go to if they need help, if they identify a need for coordination, or if they would like to extend the current data model to fit the requirements of their project.
  • The participants get a chance to discuss and to obtain advice regarding their own data publication projects and to learn from their peers.

Agenda

[edit]
  • Part 1 - Introduction and Overview: Beat Estermann provides an overview of the data model and the possibilities of representing performing arts related aspects in Wikidata. He also gives an overview of current applications making use of such data.
  • Part 2 - Peer Consulting: Interested participants present their data and data publication projects they would like to realize; convenors and participants discuss to what extent the required data structures are already in place, the way the projects could be approached, expected challenges and how to deal with them.
