Open Heritage Statement
Campaign The Open Heritage Coalition developed the Open Heritage Statement to affirm shared values, identify barriers to access, and champion the power of open heritage to spark creativity, strengthen cultural rights, and support sustainable futures. The Statement seeks to catalyze an international dialogue toward a UNESCO framework to secure equitable access to heritage in the digital environment in order to uphold the right to participate in cultural life and affirm culture as a global public good.

Hanaholmen Heritage Programme
Cultural Heritage Preparedness Hanaholmen launched, on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers, a new Nordic–Baltic programme on cultural heritage preparedness. Hanaholmen Heritage – The Nordic-Baltic Cooperation for Cultural Heritage and Preparedness – brought together experts from several countries and consisted of a training component and a high-level forum, both of which took place in May 2026.

"The Statues" project Finland
recording cultural heritage We have documented over 10,000 public artworks and memorials in all 308 Finnish municipalities, with photos of more than 8,000 sites. We are exploring drone photography for remote locations. Expanding this model to other countries is challenging because EU copyright rules are implemented differently across member states.
Open for collaboration

Knowledge gathering An open knowledge ecosystem (Internet Archive, Creative Commons, Wikidata, Wikipedia) around Kulturhus Björkboda and surrounding partner organizations on Kimitoön. In 2026, the focus will begin with the island’s public saunas, their cultural heritage and online representation. This research will be paired with a DIY sauna workshop, where we will build a type of tent sauna based on ongoing experiments.

OPAN Collaborative Platform Code (for beautifying, electrifying, and interconnecting community archives)
Cultural Heritage Platform Innovation OPAN represents 12 innovative photo history CH platform initiatives. We aim to unify our platforms with Fortepan as our base interface + add other great ideas (IIIF, ECCCH, AI, digital storytelling apps, public forum). We’re planning a COST Action grant and need smart developers under 40 who get it.
We have a Platform Manifesto (https://opanglobal.org/manifesto -- we’re serious!). CH platforms need reinvention; and our code will be useful far beyond OPAN.
