Share your superpower or talk about your project with peers and the public. It is an opportunity to advocate for policies and practices, showcase projects and programs, and run mini workshops introducing your work.
There are 20 tables to occupy. Each can seat 4 people. You can also combine several tables if they are available. You can also host sessions of any suitable length from 30 minutes to the whole day. Read more about Laituri equipment.

What makes AI art valuable? Or what takes away from it?
The workshop is about the valuation of AI art as a collaborative discourse. Using a list of 40 identified characteristics that can make an AI assisted artwork considered valuable, participants can vote on them, arrange them in importance, add to or take away from them. No prior skills are needed, just an open mind and a will to contribute constructively to a developing discourse!

Open Data and AI in The Layers in The Peace Machine
Layers in The Peace Machine is an immersive installation based on the book "Peace Machine" by the late AI researcher Timo Honkela. It is exhibited in Oulu City Hall during the cultural capital year 2026. Visitors can participate in the work by contributing their own peace-related memories online: https://peacemachine.eu/. The memories are processed by several AI models, and influence the sights and sounds experienced by the visitors of the installation.
In Oulu Löyly, we will present the data we have collected and the AI models we trained for the artwork. We also wish to discuss the unique challenges and questions we faced when building a fully open-source, local architecture for the installation. Because we wanted to ensure participation in the Finnish, English, Swedish and North Sámi langugages, we had to develop a lot of technology ourselves.
Think & do
[edit]The think & do workshop follows this path
Tuesday
- Making groups – The participants already know a lot about each other based on the previous day's program. With a little more push the likeminded ones will form groups to work on a joint mission.
- Drafting – Before lunch the planning will be in full thrust!
- Group work – And after lunch everyone will be fully focused on their work! There are many other spaces around the library where it is possible to work, as well as outside.
- Check-in – We return to the Laituri space for the situation check-in.
- Nightless night shift – Light snacks, hanging together, exchanging ideas.
Wednesday
- Finalizing group work – There will be a little time to finalize and prepare the presentations
- Presentations – The results are presented in the Laituri space, and the session is streamed. No pressure!
- Discussion – After the presentations we will wrap up the work and envision next steps.
