PhilWiki Community/Engagement Call, 2025/Capacity Building Workshop
The PhilWiki Community Board of Directors (BOD) unanimously approved the final version of the 2025-2026 Annual Plan during its regular board meeting on March 10, 2025. The grant proposal for FY 2024-25 (Round 2) is currently under review by the Regional Grants Committee. The General Support Fund (GSF) is open to Wikimedia Movement organizations and organized groups of Wikimedia volunteers, to support the effective programmatic work of those implementing their work in 100% of the time related to and focusing exclusively on Wikimedia projects.
Our strategy is simplified into 5Ps or Promotion - Participation - Partnership - Pursuit of Purpose: 1) Promotion of Open Knowledge: Raise the awareness on Wikimedia projects as a platform that serves open knowledge, 2) Participation, Diversity and Inclusion: Increase participation from all sectors of the society, including but not limited to, the youth, underrepresented communities and ethnolinguistic groups, 3) Partnership and Collaboration: Create opportunities through partnership and collaboration with civic and professional organizations, and GLAM and educational institutions, 4) Pursuit of Purpose: Empower volunteers and enhance the organizational capacity in advancing the Movement’s strategic direction – Knowledge as a Service and Knowledge Equity.
Program Committees
[edit]The PhilWiki Community’s main programs are Advocacy, Capacity Building, Diversity, Education, GLAM, and Outreach programs, and are headed by a committee chairperson appointed by the Board.
Each program supports the promotion of free knowledge and further the objectives of the organization as managed by the committee chairperson:
- Advocacy program committee creates and supports activities related to the promotion of free knowledge both online and offline;
- Capacity Building program committee develops and strengthens the skills, abilities, processes and resources that the organization need to sustain, adapt, and grow;
- Diversity program committee deals with the engagement of diverse participation to close the gender and knowledge gaps;
- Education program committee involves educators in fora and workshops for them to understand Wikipedia and how it can be utilized in school as a learning tool;
- GLAM program committee engages in establishing partnerships with galleries, libraries, archives, and museums for collaborations; and
- Outreach program committee creates projects and programs to engage new contributors in online and offline activities;
The committee chairperson is appointed by the Board, upon consultation with the general membership, to serve for a one-year term with reappointment. The Board may assign up to two committees to be chaired by one person, or it may appoint a vice-chairperson to a committee program as necessary. The committee chairperson may appoint up to five committee members, upon consultation and approval of the Board.

Movement Strategy Prioritization (November - December 2020)
[edit]In 2020, the PhilWiki Community participated in the Movement Strategy prioritization events for the user group to identify what is important for implementation in 2021. From November 3 to 16, 5 board members, 4 regular members, and 4 community members participated in the discussion. As a result, the top recommendations marked as the most important are: Improve User Experience, Innovate in Free Knowledge, Ensure Equity in Decision-making, Invest in Skills and Leadership Development.
- On what human capacity and / or financial resources do the user group need to work on implementation, the user group responded: Dedicated staff coming from the community to do certain tasks which is beyond the capacity of our editors and volunteers in order to maintain the good status of Philippine Wikimedia Community as a non-profit organization; legal, medical and economic relief support in times of persecution, health risks, natural and man-made calamities including the threats of climate change; office space with essential facilities for trainings and regular meetings in order to fully operate as a non-profit organization; local funding in order to support its initiatives, individual's and other organization's projects, programs and activities that promote free, responsibly open-content resources and reference materials in English and Philippine languages; scholarships in short-term courses such as management and leadership skills training, event's management and organizing, media and communication.
At the PhilWiki Community Year End Meeting held on December 18, 2020 at Blackscoop Cafe in Naga City, with 3 board members, 4 regular members and 3 community members in attendance, the 2021 Annual Plan 2021 of activities was finalized and formally adopted.
