1. How do outreach activities, advocacy programs and online campaigns help raise the awareness of Wikimedia projects in the Philippines as a platform that serves open knowledge?

[edit]

Establish partnerships and networks

"The network that we establish when we conduct outreach, advocacy programs and online campaigns create pathways through which we are able to impart what Wikimedia is all about and its various local and international engagements. This network also paves the way for having MOUs, partnerships and collaboration with LGUs, educational and GLAM institutions. These exchanges of knowledge and experiences are opportunities where these institutions become more aware of and will have better appreciation of the open access to knowledge that Wikimedia advocates."

"Through outreach activities, advocacy programs and online campaigns there's community engagement, building partnerships/collaborations, community are encouraged to use and support Wikimedia projects, encourage people to contribute or even learn to edit thus making Wikimedia projects visible to the public."

"Through outreach activities, we can sustain programs and contribute to the global knowledge."

"Outreach activities such seminars, online or in-person meetings, and edit-a-thons, foster connections with organizations, educational institutions, and local communities. Collaboration and contributions to Wikimedia projects are highly appreciated. It encourage the usage of Wikimedia resources and content contributions by forming partnerships with nearby organizations like libraries, museums, and colleges. All things considered, promoting Wikimedia projects in the Philippines, cultivating a community that values free knowledge, and ensuring the continued success of these initiatives depend heavily on outreach efforts, advocacy programs, and online campaigns."

Understand our advocacy and the Movement

"We cannot convince people to join the Movement without them fully understanding what we do."

"This could help raise awareness by showing them the importance of our advocacy and the benefits it could bring for the locals."
"This will increase the awareness on different projects that the community and the foundation as a whole. Through this different campaign platforms, new volunteers and different community/sectors might contribute to its goals and engage in different programs that our community are being conducted."
"This would help improve on the availability of open knowledge to reach more people."

"Maganda ang ginagawang ibat-ibang online photo contests ng sa buong taon ng Phil wiki community upang makita ng mga tao sa social media na aktibo sila sa pagpapalagananp ng libreng impormasyon at mga visual aids tulad ng photographs na sumasaklaw sa ibat ibang bagay at tema."

Enagage and sustain the community

"Outreach activities, advocacy programs, and online campaigns help raise awareness of Wikimedia projects in the Philippines. It enhance the knowledge and abilities of members, volunteers, and content providers, particularly in the areas of writing, photography, editing, and many others."

"It helps the community engage and introduces Wikimedia projects by conducting activities such as photowalks, which increase the creation and sharing of high-quality, free-licensed photographs, as well as free access to manuscripts and other Wiki projects. These initiatives not only raise awareness but also encourage participation and contributions to Wikimedia projects. Additionally, they help individuals access reliable, fact-based resources on various topics."

"Additional knowledge specially in Bicol language."

"By Building community engagement and partnerships, Promoting open knowledge and addressing barriers, Increasing visibility and growing the community and Contributing to sustainable growth and development."

"this encourages the local community to engage in the awareness of open knowledge by partnering with nearby institutions and organizations with the same advocacies."

2. What strategies can help improve participation and engagement from various sectors of our Filipino society in the Wikimedia movement?

[edit]

Offline and online outreach activities

"a) Wikimedia participation in activities of partners such as LGUs/universities through MOUs, agreements; b) sponsoring inter-school debates on such topics as the relevance of wikipedia as an open resource for students in hs or tertiary education or say is digitization the key/way for wikipedia to become more attractive to researchers/scientists, or should wikimedia projects be institutionalized in DepEd schools, should educators encourage the use of wikipedia as resources for research and dissertation materials? c) seminars for educators and researchers on these similar topics with resource speakers; these b) & c) activities could create excitement and more awareness on open knowledge and wikipedia, and develop more content contributors and volunteers; d) sustained sponsorship of participants to various wikimedia thematic congresses/conferences to give inputs/share experiences from PhilWiki activities"

"Outreach activities helps in building a community with like-minded participants, having interest on achieving one goal. These activities and goals could reach people in different sectors through partnering with local content creators to further boost our visibility and reach. Our PhilWiki page on facebook could also serve as a tool in posting educational contents about open knowledge since majority of the Filipino are active online. Furthermore, a tiktok account could be utilized for sharing milestones, and knowledge about our cause."

"Regular sessions, outreach activities, awareness, promotions etc."

"A multifaceted strategy is needed to increase the involvement and participation of several facets of Filipino society in the Wikimedia movement. To encourage the preservation of Filipino cultural history on Wikimedia platforms, collaborate with museums, art institutes, and cultural organizations. Participate in Wikimedia initiatives with indigenous tribes to preserve and document their languages, customs, and cultures. Put policies in place to encourage diversity and representation by encouraging women and minority groups to participate and engage more. Give new editors frequent instruction and seminars with an emphasis on Wikimedia policies, editing, and content creation."

Competitions

"Maliban sa 3 o 4 na photo contests sa buong taon, meron din sanang contest online sa mga writers. Maaring pagsusulat o pagrevise o pagsasalin sa wikimedia bilang pagkilala sa malaking ambag ng mga writers sa pagpapalaganap ng libre at makatotohanang impormasyon."

"Reward and recognition work for all. However, reward in a form of money is not sustainable."

Social media presence

"Have or Create a strong online/social media presence. Create or Post audio-visual/video presentations (reels or videos)"

"Convergence approach wherein different sectors with the same goal in promoting free knowledge can be utilized to strengthen Wkimedia movement. IT groups, language editors, professionals, and others can collaborate and form a convergence to achieving one goal. Their roles must be defined on how they will contribute to one goal of the wikimovement.

Conducting workshop on identifying their role and capacity will be helpful."

"Active participation"

Build local knowledge

"I think, involving minority languages to have their own Wikimedia flagship projects will be a great start."

"promoting the essence of access to open knowledge by foregrounding the local relevance as to local languages, cultures, history and heritage."

"To improve participation and engagement, Wikimedia should create a content that is relevant to local cultures, languages, and the interests of contributors. This ensures that they can properly validate and fully understand their contributions. Additionally, the Wiki community should continue to a strong partnerships with other organizations. Lastly, conducting training and workshops to educate and empower new contributors, and utilizing social media and online platforms to reach a broader audience, are essential strategies."

Focus on specific sectors

By Develop sector-specific strategies or maybe Foster inclusive and culturally sensitive approaches, also by Build capacity through training, workshops, mentorship, and community support."

"There are many strategies that we may consider to improve the participation and engagement of our Filipino society in the Wikimedia movement. Here's to wit:

1. Many youth organizations in various schools or universities are unaware of the Wikimedia movement, but they have a wealth of talent and fresh ideas to give to the organization. We may urge them to engage if we enhance the promotion not just through social media but also by meeting with them in person and discussing the organization's goals and objectives with their youth leader;

2. Intensify collaborations or partnerships with other institutions and formalize them via Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This ensures that both parties understand the roles and responsibilities;

3. Regular meetings with the officers and members of the organizations (quarterly or as needed). It may foster a sense of camaraderie and belonging among everybody. This is also the period for reporting, action planning, and defining a calendar of activities; and

4.Increase the organization's promotional or marketing efforts. It could be on various platforms like social media, posters, radio shows, IEC materials, and other types of promotion."

3. What opportunities can be created out of partnership and collaboration with civic and professional organizations, and GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, museums) and educational institutions?

[edit]

Access to resources

"Access to free, open, and public undigitized sources."

"Puedeng idigitized ang ilang mahahalagang mga koleksiyon ng mga galeriya, libraries at museo at ilagay sa wikipedia."

"1. Access to expertise and resources 2. Community outreach and engagement 3. Content donations and digital preservation 4. Education and capacity building 5. Joint funding applications and knowledge sharing"

Access to their resources (financial, human, facilities, etc.) is one of the benefit of collaborating with them. They have the mandate of performing such initiatives, but we have to define our role as community what we can offer to them so that collaboration is possible (counterparting). Like in capacity building/training new volunteers and editors, they (other organization) have the resources to provide us free venue, educators, etc."

Improve content

"We can maximize and help Wikipedia to preserve and improve content."

"Various possibilities for the Wikimedia movement in the Philippines can be created through partnerships and collaborations with GLAM institutions, educational institutions, and community and professional organizations. Work together with GLAM organizations to digitize their holdings and post them on Wikimedia sites. To promote Wikimedia projects and offer educational opportunities, plan collaborative exhibitions, events, or workshops with GLAM organizations. The Wikimedia movement in the Philippines can improve its collaborations, broaden its audience, and encourage open knowledge and information access by utilizing these opportunities."

"Partnerships with civic organizations, GLAM institutions, and educational entities create opportunities to enrich Wikimedia projects by providing access to unique cultural resources and integrating Wikimedia into curricula, especially in history subjects. Students can contribute and earn perks, but it’s important to ensure proper guidance to prevent vandalism. These collaborations help preserve cultural heritage, promote open knowledge, engage new contributors, and raise public awareness, supporting Wikimedia’s mission for free, accessible information."

"More opportunities may arise, such as an increase in the number of partners (locally, nationally, or internationally), an increase in the number of new members, active participation of members due to an increase in the number of activities, and the organization becoming well-known to others as a result of the collaborative effort of the various stakeholders and organizations."

Increase capacity

"Partnership also means sharing of resources, responsibility and accountability. We should collaborate on projects which benefit all involved parties."

"Additional knowledge and experiences"

"the exchange of information and expertise to promote sustainable knowledge-sharing in partnering and collaborating with Glam, civic, educational institutions and professional organizations.. etc."

"partnerships with professional organizations enhance content quality through expert contributions, while GLAM institutions help in raising public awareness and encouraging involvement. Additionally, workshops and training sessions conducted in collaboration with these institutions help build the skills of contributors, ensuring the creation of high-quality content."

"increased awareness of wikimedia projects and their importance and contributions to the community; wider coverage of projects and more inclusive participation from various sectors; sustained programs having a good wikimedia reputation - assurance to partners that wikimedia is a trustworthy collaborator and partner; capacity building on technical as well as organizational skills for wikimedia volunteers;"

4. How can we empower the Filipino volunteers and content contributors, and enhance the organizational capacity of PhilWiki Community in advancing Wikimedia Movement’s strategic direction – Knowledge as a Service (become a platform that serves knowledge in many formats and builds tools for allies) and Knowledge Equity (focus on the knowledge and communities that structures of power and privilege have left out)?

[edit]

Provide trainings and capacity building opportunities

Begin with internal assets. Cultivate volunteers who are passionately involved in our Movement.

By providing them opportunities to explore and be part of the global movement. Equip them with skills and trainings.

Pagbibigay sa kanila ng pagkakataong makadalo at makilahok sa ibat ibang pagtitipon ng Wikimedians dito sa bansa at sa ibang bansa tulad ng mga scholarships.

Provide Training workshops and skill development sessions and load with ample technical know-how to support in facilitating strategic plan for a sustainable initiatives.

More activities, particularly capacity building, such as trainings, seminars, and conferences for volunteers and content contributors.

Empowering Filipino volunteers and contributors involves providing training, resources, and collaboration opportunities to help them drive Wikimedia's strategic goals. By fostering local engagement and creating inclusive tools, the PhilWiki Community can ensure underrepresented voices are heard, promote knowledge equity, and contribute to making Wikimedia a platform that serves diverse communities and knowledge in multiple formats.

Providing comprehensive training and capacity-building programs will equip volunteers with the necessary skills to create and share high-quality content. Encouraging local language contributions and culturally relevant content ensures diverse representation and inclusivity. Additionally, implementing recognition and reward systems can motivate volunteers, acknowledging their contributions and fostering a sense of community.

Participate in the governance

"a) conduct similar community surveys where both volunteers and other sectors in the community may be able to voice out their concerns, share experiences, contribute ideas, give inputs in the preparation of plans; b) encourage volunteers to participate in special committees or TWGs and help implement projects; c) facilitate the engagement of student OJTs and volunteers by partner institutions;"

The strategic direction of the Wikimedia Movement must be advanced by strengthening the organizational capabilities of the PhilWiki Community and empowering Filipino volunteers and content creators. To provide volunteers the skills they need, conduct frequent training sessions, workshops, and webinars on community involvement, editing, and content production. Encourage contributions from marginalized groups such as women, indigenous communities, and individuals with disabilities, if it is possible to promote diversity and inclusion. Fostering support for native tongues can encourage linguistic diversity and cultural heritage preservation. To enhance the overall impact of PhilWiki Community's activities and guide strategic decision-making, it is needed to conduct research on community dynamics, content quality, and knowledge gaps.

Other answers

"First step: Reaching out. Second step: Looking for people from their community that can sustain involvement in the Wikimedia projects that are intended to bring to the world their community and culture."

"There's many but i can say some, like improve access to knowledge and education and advocates of supporting knowledge equity and access information"

"Development of IEC materials, such as video, podcast, printed leaflets, and other promotional materials can be an option. Continuous promotion of the movement in radio, television, and othwr multimedia platforms is also"
