Report of activities: 2026

[edit]

This page is the Annual Report of PhilWiki Community for the year 2026. It includes the activities of the organization from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026.

The Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group or PhilWiki Community was formed on 1 June 2015 to serve as an organization of unaffiliated Wikipedians in the Philippines.

January

[edit]
  • January 15 - At The Boardroom by Keystone, the organization's creative space, PhilWiki Community join the global celebration of Wikipedia’s 25th birthday![1] It is a milestone that honors 25 years of collective effort, collaboration, and shared belief in free and open knowledge. During the celebration, the second batch of participants in the SheSaid 2025-2026 in the Philippines were mentored to enrich the platforms of free knowledge — notably Wikiquote, Wikipedia and Wikidata, bridging the gender gap still present in the digital world. The year 2025 marks the first participation of WikiWomen Filipinas and the Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group.
  • January 23—25 - Filipino Wikimedia photographers based in the Visayas join Wiki Takes Iloilo at Dinagyang Festival. The photo scavenger hunt aims to take as many photographs as possible of sights in the City of Iloilo for Wikipedia articles that need them. The activity is scheduled on January 23 - 25, 2026 during the Dinagyang Festival. They also visited GLAM institutions like the Casa Mariquit and Camiña Balay nga Bato.

PH-WC Planning activity
  • February 1—March 31 - The Feminism and Folklore in the Philippines 2026 on Bikol Wikipedia runs from February 1 to March 31 to create content on folklore and topics related to women. Along side the editing campaign is the Wiki Loves Folklore 2026 Philippines on Wikimedia Commons. Last year, the campaign received a total of 476 articles and 351 images were submitted by 29 participants.[2][3]
  • February 1 - At The Boardroom by Keystone, the organization's creative space, PhilWiki Community conducted its midterm planning session to assess ongoing programs, reflect on organizational priorities, and recalibrate strategies for Medium-term Plan 2026-2030. The activity brought together core volunteers, project leads, community organizers, and partners to collectively review progress and identify areas for improvement across education, GLAM, language, and community engagement initiatives. The discussions focused on strengthening internal coordination and aligning activities with the broader Wikimedia Movement Strategy. Participants revisited the organization’s vision, mission and values, emphasizing inclusivity, sustainability, and the promotion of free knowledge. They also reviewed Wiki education partnerships, local photography and editing campaigns, capacity-building activities as well as heritage advocacy efforts, and evaluated program outcomes.
  • February 21 - Wiki Club Minalabac joined Freedom to Read 2026: One World, Many Languages, a global campaign by Pratham Books’ StoryWeaver celebrating multilingual literacy and International Mother Language Day. Led locally by MaryGrace Valencia of the Alliance for Open Education Collaboration Inc., the initiative featured reading sessions in Central Bikol using children’s books translated during the 2025 Hablon-Usipon Workshop. Supported by educators from Minalabac, the activity highlighted the importance of mother tongue-based literacy and culturally relevant learning materials. Through partnerships with the PhilWiki Community and other organizations, the group continues to promote open knowledge and inclusive education, empowering young learners to read and thrive in their own language.[4]
