What is Planetary Science Wiki Edit-a-thon?

A Wikipedia edit-a-thon organized by the Europlanet Society and Wikimedia Belgium, carried out with the support of the Ernest Solvay Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, to celebrate diversity in planetary science.

Our goal is to celebrate and promote diversity within the international planetary science community by highlighting the contributions of women and under-represented groups.

What to Expect:

  1. Kick-off & Introductory Session (10 February 2026):' A short and accessible online introduction to Wikipedia editing and presentation of the Planetary Science Wiki Edit-a-thon initiative.
    Time: 18:00 CET
    Location: Online
  2. Edit-a-thon Challenge (11 February – 8 March 2026): Participate in a collaborative challenge to write, edit, or translate one Wikipedia article per day, with the collective goal of producing at least 26 new or improved articles highlighting women and underrepresented groups in planetary science.
  3. Collaborative Weekly Meetings (February – March 2026): Informal online sessions to share progress, exchange resources, ask questions, and stay motivated.

Please note: By registering, we kindly ask that you commit to fully participating throughout the event to ensure the success of this important initiative.

The campaign is cross-wiki, you can contribute in different ways: writing a Wikipedia article, improving an existing one, creating new Wikidata items, or upload on Commons photos with free licenses on Commons. You can also decide to write an article on Wikinews or to add a new entry on Wikiquote, add categories, or encourage someone to become a new editor. Every single action is valuable.
