Queering Wiki Program

[edit]

The QW26 programme is now available! You can find it here

Un-conference

[edit]

You can use the un-conference space and time slot to propose a brief session—10 minutes—on a topic of your interest, in an open and collaborative manner. This is expected to be a space self-managed by the participants.

The un-conference is taking place on Saturday 24th, at 14:00 hours.

You can list your un-conference sessions below.

Lunch Meetups

[edit]

Meetups are self-organised gatherings by participants and groups around shared identities, nationalities, or interests. Dedicated time slots are available for scheduling meetups on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that meetups will take place during the lunch break on the second and third conference days. To register, simply include the theme of your meetup in any of the available time slots below.

Conference streams

[edit]

The program for Queering Wiki 2026 is organized into three thematic streams. These tracks help us navigate the intersections of our past, our present, and the possibilities of our future.

1. Knowledge Without Borders: Bridging Geographies, Languages, and Genders

[edit]
  • Sessions promoting visibility of linguistic, cultural, generational, ethnic, and national diversity among Queer Wikimedians;
  • Sessions on fostering collaboration between the Global South and North;
  • Projects for making Wikimedia spaces welcoming, safe and receptive to everyone;
  • Proposals addressing the role of the Wikimedia LGBT+ User group and LGBT+ WikiProjects.

2. Queer Histories: Archives, Museums, and Historical Reparation

[edit]
  • Sessions that explore how we document, preserve, and reclaim queer narratives;
  • Proposals involving GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums), oral histories, and initiatives that seek to repair systemic erasure through open data;
  • Collaborations between Wikimedians, GLAM institutions, and community/academic/government projects.

3. Queer Futures & Wild Ideas: Innovation and Exploration

[edit]
  • Projects implementing creative strategies for gender equity in open knowledge;
  • Initiatives empowering Queer individuals to become Wikimedia contributors and leaders;
  • Experimental projects, and emerging technologies;
  • Sessions that think outside the box to imagine the next generation of queer open knowledge.

Each stream includes a set of examples for inspiration. If your project isn't listed but you feel it belongs at Queering Wiki 2026, please don't hesitate to submit your proposal!

Session formats

[edit]

We have five types of session formats and you can choose from:

Poster presentation (5 minutes)
Presentation and discussion with a poster. Posters should be available on Wikimedia Commons, formatted to A1 (59.4×84.1 cm / 16.53×23.39 in) for print and submitted as .png or .svg.
Lightning talk (7–10 minutes)
Share your topic in 5–7 minutes, with 3 extra minutes for Q&A.
Presentation (15–20 minutes)
A traditional presentation on the topic of your interest, including slides — 15 minutes presentation and 5 extra minutes for Q&A.
Panel discussion (45–60 minutes)
3 or more presenters sharing topics on a common theme, with an optional facilitator. Each presenter will have 10–15 minutes, and extra time for Q&A.
Workshop (60–90 minutes)
An interactive, hands-on session where participants move beyond listening to actively practicing new skills or solving specific problems.
Strategy session (60–90 minutes)
Facilitated discussion on how to engage local, regional, national, and/or global communities in LGBTIQ+ Wikimedia efforts. This time will be dedicated to meeting people with common goals and drafting a strategic plan for the LGBTQ+ community engagement effort.
