To raise understanding of Wikidata and build the capacity of new contributors in Jos, Nigeria — by providing introductory and practical training on how to add, edit, and improve Wikidata items; reducing the gap in local participation; encouraging contributions that reflect knowledge about Jos and its surroundings; and fostering a sustainable community of Wikidata editors who continue contributing beyond the project.

The event had good turnout, smooth coordination, clear training sessions, and active hands-on participation. Participants quickly understood the basics of Wikidata and showed strong interest in continuing to contributed

• What did not work so well?

A few participants struggled with network stability and navigation on Wikidata, which caused slight delays during the training.

• What would you do differently next time?

Provide clearer instructions in advance, improve technical support, and pace the training to suit all participants.
