Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The project was successful in introducing students and lecturers to Wikipedia for the first time at Justice Mamman Nasir College of Legal and Management Studies. Participants showed strong interest and active engagement throughout the training sessions. The practical, hands-on approach—especially learning how to create accounts, edit articles, and add reliable sources—helped participants understand Wikipedia better and build confidence in contributing. Collaboration between facilitators and participants worked smoothly, and the training environment encouraged questions, discussions, and shared learning. Overall, the clear structure of the sessions and the relevance of the content to the participants’ academic interests contributed greatly to the success of the project.
- What did not work so well?
Some challenges were encountered during the project. Limited time made it difficult to cover all planned topics in depth, especially advanced editing skills. In addition, internet connectivity issues affected a few practical sessions and slowed down participation for some attendees. A number of participants were completely new to Wikipedia and digital editing, which required spending extra time on basic concepts and reduced the time available for more advanced training. Despite these challenges, the overall objectives of the project were still achieved.
- What would you do differently next time?
In future projects, more time would be allocated for the training to allow deeper coverage of both basic and advanced Wikipedia editing skills. Preparatory materials would be shared with participants ahead of the event to help them understand basic concepts before the training. Arrangements would also be made to ensure more stable internet access and adequate equipment. Additionally, follow-up sessions or an online support group would be organized after the training to provide continued guidance and help participants remain active contributors to Wikimedia projects.
