Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
What worked well?
The celebration and training sessions went well. Participants actively engaged in the edit-a-thon, contributing to Wikipedia while learning essential editing skills. The event successfully raised awareness about Wikipedia’s impact and strengthened the local Wikimedia community.
What did not work so well?
- The projector issue: Unfortunately, the rented projector broke during the event, making it unusable. This affected the presentation quality.
- Delayed funding: The funds were not received on time, which delayed the conclusion of the contest until the middle of the next month.
What would you do differently next time?
Arrange for a backup projector or test rented equipment before the event to avoid technical disruptions.
Explore ways to secure early funding to ensure smooth execution of all planned activities, including timely completion of contests.
Improve logistical planning to minimize unexpected challenges and enhance the participant experience.
Finances
[edit]Grant funds spent
[edit]Please describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.
- Our project was successfully completed with a total budget of ₦247,000, covering all essential expenses. We spent ₦50,000 on the hall, which included a projector, microphone, and other necessary materials. Refreshments for 28 participants and facilitators amounted to ₦84,000, ensuring everyone was well-catered for. To recognize and motivate top contributors, we awarded prizes worth ₦50,000. We also provided four organizer T-shirts for ₦28,000, had a Wikipedia birthday cake for ₦15,000, and printed a banner for ₦10,000 to enhance visibility. A contingency fund of ₦10,000 covered any unforeseen expenses. This funding allowed us to organize a smooth, impactful, and engaging event.
