What worked well?

The Wiki Loves Monuments project in Maiduguri found success through several important factors:

Community Involvement.

Local residents actively engaged in the project, which helped create a sense of pride and connection to their cultural heritage. This participation was crucial for fostering a collective ownership of the initiative.

Raising Awareness.

The project effectively brought attention to Maiduguri's historical sites, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation and education. This awareness encouraged community members to learn more about their local history.

Variety in Contributions.

A diverse array of photographs was submitted, significantly enhancing the visual documentation of local monuments. This influx of images enriched Wikipedia's resources on Nigerian heritage, allowing for a broader representation of Maiduguri's cultural landscape.

What did not work so well?

The Wiki Loves Monuments initiative in Maiduguri encountered significant obstacles due to severe flooding. Heavy rainfall caused many sites to become submerged, complicating access for participants who intended to document these monuments. This situation not only impeded photography efforts but also raised alarms about the preservation of cultural heritage, which is increasingly threatened by environmental challenges.
