Reports:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Report/Wiki Loves Monoments 2024, Uyo
Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
The project successfully met its goals. Approximately 14 new contributors created Wikipedia accounts and registered for the project, while about 5 previous Wikimedia volunteers participated. Of these, 16 people actively took part in the physical training and photo walk, resulting in the contribution of 565 images to Wikimedia Commons. Additionally, we successfully raised awareness about Wikimedia in Uyo. I am pleased with these results.

Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
• Exceptional Contributions: While the number of participants was less than targeted, those who participated demonstrated high levels of engagement, resulting in more uploads than anticipated, far exceeding our target.
• Expanded Reach: We visited more locations than initially planned, exploring not just Uyo, but Oron, Ikot Ekpene and Abak LGAs as well.
• Community Interest: The campaign successfully raised awareness about Wikimedia in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron and Abak LGAs, Participants not only engaged in the campaign but also expressed interest in further involvement with Wikimedia projects.
- What did not work so well?
Fewer Attendees: The turnout was less than targeted, with 16 participants instead of the anticipated 20. This lower attendance was partly due to unforeseen challenges that affected some individuals' ability to join. Moving forward, we will explore strategies to enhance participation in future events.
- What would you do differently next time?
Enhanced Participant Recruitment: To improve attendance, I will focus on early and targeted recruitment, with better communication and follow-up, including additional reminders and flexible attendance options.
