Reports:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Report/Wikidata 12th Birthday: Awareness Campaign 2024
Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? The campaign focused mainly on creating awareness in the university about the fan club, the awareness campaign goals were meet because we were able to create enough awareness both online and offline. During the awareness campaign we had over 50 new members join the community. And over 30 new contributors.
We are happy about how it went because, we had people show interest in our community and wanted to know what the community is about, we also re-registered the fan club under the student union body.
We employed the use of E fliers, poster, handbill, banner and stickers to create this awareness.
Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
50 | 73(total number of participants of the community group and 30 on the dashboard) | we had only 30 participants on the dashboard because most of the participants didn’t join the dashboard because of the dashboard problem |
100 items created and edited | 42 items created and edited | the dashboard didn’t track nor display the main contribution by our participants we selected our winners by using their global contribution due to the dashboard not tracking their contributions |
30 new participants | 60 new participants | our awareness campaign created platform for people to learn about our community via our WhatsApp platform and also our social media platforms. |
dashboard | https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedia_fan_club_Unilorin/Wikimedia_12th_Birthday_and_Awareness_campaign_2024 | this was what we intended to use to track but we had to use global contribution to track results

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Our awareness campaign strategies worked well because we had more people join the community from the campaign and also created new user accounts and also joining the wikimedia community in Nigeria.
- What did not work so well?
The number of participants turn out at the physical event was low especially because the event was specifically for the new participants we had just 35 participants along side the executives during the physical training and also the dashboard didn’t track fully our performance and contribution during the campaign.
- What would you do differently next time? We will look for alternatives measure to tracking the community contribution there by creating our community monthly edit ladder this will help us track each contribution by participants every month and also during campaigns.
