Requests for comment/Make all new wikis global bot wikis

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The following request for comments is closed. The community has agreed to the proposer's proposal for a period of one month, so all newly created wikis will be included in the global bot wikis. This applies to new wikis being created starting today. This work will be implemented as a way to be included in the global bot wikisets after the primary importing work is finished, and the new wikis importers team will be notified in this regard. --Sotiale (talk) 10:16, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that all new content wikis be automatically opted into the Global bot wikiset, starting at the close of this RFC. Of course, wikis are free to depart the group with a subsequent discussion.

  • I think we should update the bot policy first, since currently interlanguage links are stored on Wikidata. But the Automatic Approval section says,

the bot must only maintain interlanguage links or fix double-redirects.

Currently, the work on interlanguage links can be a matter of debate. —MdsShakil (talk) 13:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Note that there are some users who add old-style interlanguage links to local pages. And at least my bot and YiFeiBot move them to Wikidata. --Emaus (talk) 03:19, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure the automatic approval section of the policy is of any use nowadays and I am seeing opinions about its abrogation at Talk:Bot policy#Abrogate automatic approval. It's use-case is terribly limited nowadays. If users still find it useful for the kind of tasks you mention, of for interwiki cleanup upon wiki creation (both of them useful and appreciated), I'm happy to keep it around. As for double redirect fixing, I feel that is something that MediaWiki should/could be doing itself via a server-side maintenance script once or twice per day instead of relying on community bots IMHO. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 20:43, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Unless otherwise objected, I will deal with this on the November 12. And after that, I will notify the implementation of this to users involved in the creation of new wikis. --Sotiale (talk) 13:14, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
