Requests for comment/Unify reconstruction namespaces across all Wiktionaries, please!

We have two users complaining on es.wikt because they want to add interwiki links —by local policy they are forbidden— on reconstructed entries, arguing that reconstruction entries can differ from Wiktionary to Wiktionary. For example on es.wikt or el.wikt they just start with a preceeding asterisk, but on en.wikt a Reconstruction: dedicated namespace was created, same stuff on fr.wikt. Therefore:

  1. Can we unify all reconstructed entries across all Wiktionaries, just as it works with the normal mainspace entries.
  2. If so, is there any advantage of putting these reconstructed entries on a separated namespace instead of just putting all of them in the mainspace with the preceeding asterisk?

Why can't this be left for each wiki to experiment with as it pleases? * Pppery * it has begun 00:50, 13 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support Strong support for the idea "Unify reconstruction namespaces across all Wiktionaries", still uncertain whether this is a true global issue.  Weak oppose asterisk in main namespace,  Weak support separate namespace. Strong support Strong support same number for same namespace (Index, Appendix, Reconstruction, ...) in all wiktionaries. Taylor 49 (talk) 23:47, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
