I'd like to raise a serious concern regarding the Arabic Wikipedia article about the Arabic actor and director Abdulrahman Thaher.

Article Link

[edit]

Current version of Arabic Article after major deletion:

https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/عبد_الرحمن_ظاهر

Link of the Mass Removal (Diff link):

https://ar.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=عبد_الرحمن_ظاهر&diff=prev&oldid=70624550

On 8 May 2025, an editor removed nearly all important paragraphs, references, and sources from that Arabic article without any clear justification or explanation. The deleted content included verifiable and sourced information built over the years since the article was first created in 2014 by a different editor. Various contributors, including myself (in some parts), improved it gradually until 2025.

The current version is now reduced to a single paragraph that was literally copied and translated from the Russian Wikipedia article: Абдулрахман_Дахер

That Russian version itself has been nominated for deletion, and the literal translation to Arabic includes multiple errors, including:

  • Incorrect TV and film titles
  • Inaccurate translation of Arabic names
  • Misleading information that doesn't convey the truth to the reader.

The Arabic content that was removed had a much higher level of accuracy and contextual depth that fits the articles in other languages more than the vague and faulty translation now presented.

In addition, the editor who performed this mass removal has previously nominated the same subject's articles on other Wikipedia projects (in different languages) for deletion, which raises questions about motive. It is worth noting that he has a previous record on Wikimedia Commons, where he was blocked for creating multi accounts that work for him (Sockpuppetry).

It is important to mention that the English Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdulrahman_Thaher remains intact and was kept by consensus after deletion discussions, with sources and notability standards reviewed. In addition to articles in other languages.

Global block

[edit]

I am aware that my account is currently globally blocked, allegedly due to translating the article into several languages. However, my intention was always to provide factual, sourced, and neutrally written content. The Arabic article’s current state misrepresents a public figure and contains inaccurate claims that do not reflect the verified reality.

Regardless of my user status (I do not request unblocking for myself), I wish this issue deserves community attention for the sake of article quality and content integrity.

Requests

[edit]

I respectfully request that:

  • The mass deletion be reviewed by a neutral administrator.
  • Restoration of valid sourced content be considered.
  • Preventative measures be taken to ensure that translations from other projects do not replace original content without proper verification.

Thank you for your attention and time.

This is not the right venue as RFC is not designed to judge on content disputes. Furthermore, every project is independent so policies, editorial practices etc. might differ. I don't think this request is valid as per Requests for comment/Policy. A09|(pogovor) 23:01, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@A09 I agree, and I request the speedy closure of this RfC. 📅 03:17, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
