This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal
[edit]Antiguan and Barbudan Creole is an English-based creole language that emerged from contact between speakers of the Kwa languages and speakers of Antiguan and Barbudan English in the Leeward Islands. Today, it is natively spoken in Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, Montserrat, and some villages in Dominica. Antiguan and Barbudan Creole is the most spoken language in two independent countries, and is one of the most spoken languages in the eastern Caribbean. The language has approximately 150,000 native speakers.
We would like to develop an encyclopedia in it in order to help both preserve and develop knowledge in this language. --Jon Gua (talk) 19:59, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- The encyclopedia would be very helpful to the people of Antigua and Barbuda and the Leeward Islands in general– the majority of the population speaking the language natively. The encyclopedia uses the standard orthography and we have multiple editors from multiple subdialects who have joined the project. We are also working on getting our interface translation request approved. CROIX (talk) 20:07, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- We can preserve our language through Wikipedia. It is good to see it standardised as well. Hector the Writer (talk) 22:11, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- It would be good for the language. Anzinkel97 (talk) 16:45, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- We have five active editors and it will help many people. BlackPineappleExpert (talk) 17:48, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
