Common Czech Wikipedia[edit]

submitted verification final decision
This proposal has been rejected.
This decision was taken by the language committee in accordance with the Language proposal policy based on the discussion on this page.

The closing committee member provided the following comment:

Common Czech fails the uniqueness criterion for eligibility, namely that it be sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki. Common Czech also does not have the required ISO 639-3 code except as a subset of Czech, which is covered by the current Czech Wikipedia. —{admin} Pathoschild 22:49:34, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Common Czech is used in whole Bohemia and part of Moravia and I think it would deserve it's own wikipedia. Just like other German-like Wikipedias (Alemanic, Bavarian etc...). Please support us. Thanks.

Arguments against[edit]

  • There is already a Czech Wikipedia. Why should there be another one? The dialect diversity of Czech is not at all as high as in German or Italian. And there is no ISO Code for something like Common Czech. --Thogo (talk) 10:54, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I cannot agree, I'm originaly Praguen and I feel the strong difference between Common Czech and Czech (or any others)... There's already a dictionary between Czech and Common Czech - http://slangy.cz/slangy/ ... as you can see there are diferences in words like "To look" = "Dívat se" (In Czech), "Koukat se" (In Common Czech)... There are much more other branch words in Common Czech that are not known in Czech or Moravian dialects. Pulsedriver cz 11:15, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's only differences in a few words and some endings. Of course, colloquial style languages know some words that are not used in the standard language, but that holds for all languages that have a certain standard. Since there is no own ISO-639 code for Common Czech, there will be no chance for a wikipedia in it. --Thogo (talk) 11:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I'll tell you 200 words in Common Czech, will you believe me? I think there could pass judgement on it only Czech, not a Saxon ;) Pulsedriver cz 11:48, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. 200 words is not much. Anyway, please read the Meta:Language proposal policy which says that a language *must* have an ISO-639 code to get an own project. So please obtain an ISO code first. --Thogo (talk) 12:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Common Czech isn't that much different from the regular Czech, thus there's no need to have Wikipedia in that language. Besides common Czech and its difference from regular Czech is already being described on Czech Wiktionary.

There are more differences between the Limburgish dialects than Common Czech and Czech. It would be a little bit strange if we would also create 500 wikipedias for all Limburgish dialects... --OosWesThoesBes 06:41, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
