Requests for new languages/Wikiquote Interlingue
| submitted | verification | final decision |
| Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).
The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
| What | Value | Example / Explanation |
|---|
| Proposal | ||
|---|---|---|
| Language code | ie (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
| Language name | Interlingue | Language name in English |
| Language name | Interlingue | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
| Language Wikidata item | Q35850 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
| Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
| Site URL | ie.wikiquote.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
| Settings | ||
|---|---|---|
| Project name | Wikicitates | "Wikiquote" in your language |
| Project namespace | Wikicitates | usually the same as the project name |
| Project talk namespace | Discussiones del Wikicitates | "Wikiquote talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
| Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
| Optional settings | ||
| Project logo | File:Wikiquote-logo-ie.png | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). |
| Default project timezone | Europe:London | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
| Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
| Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
[edit]I propose the creation of a Wikiquote project in the Interlingue language.
The language has a major history, many texts (primarily Cosmoglotta, and the notable 'Salute, Johnathon!'), and a Wikipedia consisting of over 13,000 articles. In addition to this, it has a Reddit community, and deserves a Wikiquote project, due to these communities. Along with these, Interlingue has many websites, such as an online dictionary under the name of OcciDict.
Despite its common label of a 'dead conlang', it has many people who speak and contribute to the language, and the influx of resources on the internet is only bringing in more people. I believe that the creation of an Interlingue Wikiquote will preserve and spread the language, and be a great addition to the Wikimedia projects. 13244Pagines (talk)
Discussion
[edit]- Support. But first it would be worth creating a test project in the Incubator. --Danvintius Bookix (talk) 15:47, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- I have started the test project. I know this language a little. --Flamme-Bleue (talk) 17:30, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose it’s hard enough keeping English Wikiquote alive. An obscure conlang has no chance. --Dronebogus (talk) 11:07, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. Word for word what User:Dronebogus has already stated. Plus, the intent doesn't seem to be bettering Wikiquote, but to promote the spread of Interlingue (which I notice is a problem with a LOT of the proposals I see for other language editions of Wikimedia properties). - Oppose. There must be an active Incubator first. It's literally requirement number one in the Language proposal policy for a final approval. Leaf plate (talk) 10:18, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
