  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Language code en-simple (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Simple English Language name in English
Language name Simple English Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q21480034 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality no indication Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.
Project name Wikiquote "Wikiquote" in your language
Project namespace Wikiquote usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace Wikiquote talk "Wikiquote talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads yes Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone UTC "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
submit Phabricator task (includes everything automatically, except additional namespaces/settings)

  • Several concerns - the points of the previous request for closing projects still stand, and the Simple English Wikipedia community has decided they cannot support another Simple English project. hiàn 03:45, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Hiàn: I suggest you to use en-simple instead of simple, see reason at phab:T110190. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:53, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Thank you for bringing that up. hiàn 18:28, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose I would say that that project is dead, it used to be just a sandbox of quotes, which is ok to use Wikiquote Beta Cluster instead now. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:43, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Quickly close this. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 05:18, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Symbol oppose vote oversat.svg Strong oppose No more so-called "Simple" projects. This does not meet the requirements §2 and §3 of the policy: The language must have a valid ISO 639 1–3 code, but this uses English code because it's English and does not have an own code, and The language must be sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki. In most cases, this excludes regional dialects and different written forms of the same language, and this thing called "Simple English" is no more than a different written form of the same language called English. --Zerabat (discusión) 14:27, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - We should have a simplebooks, simpleversity, simplevoyage, and simplenews to go with our simplepedia and simpletionary, but simplequote is too far. KATMAKROFAN (talk) 01:09, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Closing comment[edit]

The current policy makes it extremely difficult to create new simple projects. If someone has a true interest in doing something like this, there are some options available:
