| Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).
The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
| What | Value | Example / Explanation |
|---|
| Proposal | ||
|---|---|---|
| Language code | hil (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
| Language name | Hiligaynon | Language name in English |
| Language name | Hiligaynon | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
| Language Wikidata item | Q35978 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
| Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
| Site URL | hil.wikisource.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
| Settings | ||
|---|---|---|
| Project name | Wikisource | "Wikisource" in your language |
| Project namespace | Wikisource | usually the same as the project name |
| Project talk namespace | halambalan-panid | "Wikisource talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
| Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
| Optional settings | ||
| Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
| Default project timezone | Manila | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
| Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
| Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
[edit]Hiligaynon, also often referred to as Ilonggo or Binisayâ/Bisayâ nga Hiniligaynon/Inilonggo, is an Austronesian regional language spoken in the Philippines by about 9.1 million people, predominantly in Panay Island, Negros Occidental, and Soccsksargen, most of whom belong to the Hiligaynon people. It is the second-most widely spoken language in the Visayas and belongs to the Bisayan languages, and it is more distantly related to other Philippine languages.
This project would be the perfect place for Hiligaynon literature, and their official translations from different languages and vice versa.
Discussion
[edit]- Support There is an ongoing effort as seen in the recent activities and it is expected to continue. If approved, this would be the first Wikimedia project in the 4th most spoken native language in the Philippines. --Filipinayzd (talk) 14:03, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Support - I support the endeavor to approve the Wikisource Hiligaynon because Hiligaynon is one of the important languages in the Philippines, rich in literature and history. Jumark27 (talk) 09:15, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- Support - I met a few friends online who I think were speaking Bisaya, it turns out it was Hiligaynon. It sounded similar but not the same. To prevent such confusion (on my part), I hope you approve Wikisource Hiligaynon. I'm learning a few words while editing and proofreading. ShmilyDigital (talk) 02:13, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support - PhilWiki Community fully supports this initiative. --Maffeth.opiana (talk) 08:01, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hello! Could you explain why the community chose to pursue Wikisource as its first project? Also, is there a list of all the works currently on the Multilingual Wikisource? The main page is not exactly helpful in this regard (is there another page where you would direct someone who newly arrives at your wiki to get an overview of what is there?). --MF-W 09:16, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- @MF-Warburg thank you for asking. There was a request for Wikipedia Hiligaynon unfortunately the proposal was closed in spite of the effort to build the local Wikipedia. Building the Hiligaynon Wikisource is another approach to attract and encourage a new breed of Wikimedians. I believe that Wikisource is what the community needs especially in preserving manuscripts now in the public domain which are threatened to be gone through natural calamities and other factors. We have added in the main page the collections that have been or are being proofread by the community. --Filipinayzd (talk) 12:50, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
