As for now I've put them into over 2000 articles (using regular account). At the moment I've interwikis for next 457 articles. I prepare them offline, and put them using a bot. Portuguese (pt) version of Wikinews:

Hi! Our recently launched version in Portuguese of Wikinews is currently in need of some other urgent software translations and there is no user with sysop status to change the MediaWiki messages.

So, my question is, can you turn me into an administrator? Because if we keep this way, there will never be someone able to translate the remaing messages (and there are tons of them). Hi, please give sysop permissions and bureaucrat flag to User e2m, at the portuguese edition of Wikinews, he is a experient admin from the the portuguese wikipedia.
Giving this permission to him, will give us a base to start polls for new admins at the portuguese wikinews and to translate the remaining of the software.

  • As User:Gangleri suggested to me, I request for bot flag on sr: for bot Millbot. General purpose of this bot is synchronizing of Cyrillic, Latin and ASCII Latin pages on sr:. Development of this bot would not be in the way of taking care about interwiki links (even it can do that if there is no other job), but to take care about consistency of sr:. Hi, I'm not quite sure which part is missing. Please bear with me. So far I've linked to the local admin page, which links back here and does explain what an admin is and can do. It has a null list of admins, plus my name listed as pending. The "large wikis only" requirement does not apply. The language code and project name are in the link. The only thing missing is my user name there (though I did give the user ID, which was previously asked for when I requested sysop status for the Min Nan Wikipedia, probably because of the diacritic in my user name), which is identical to my user name here.   • I would like to request an emergency revocation of sysop status for קלײנער קעניגל in the Yiddish Wikipedia. He is engaging in inappropriate speedy deletion. He keeps deleting all redirects from titles in different dialects, thereby breaking the links in other articles. In general he does not seem to care about others or their opinions and the democratic process. And being the only permanent sysop on that Wikipedia, he does whatever he likes.   • The Portuguese Wikipedia decided new rules to choose burocrats, with these new rules we voted for 3 burocrats here. In this election, the community of portuguese wikipedia decided that Mschlindwein, Muriel and Manuel Anastácio are the new burocrats, and the community decided to revoke the burocrat status of JoaoMiranda. Well, I requested to JoaoMiranda to grant burocrats status for three people above, but he doesn't come to pt.wikipedia since january 18.   • Cao Xuân Hiếu would like to become an administrator for the Vietnamese Wikipedia (w:vi:). He has gotten support from three Vietnamese users (including me, a sysop) and "limited support" from a third user. (That's actually an achievement for a wiki of our size.) Note for Yurik regarding the Japanese YurikBot account : just ask a bureaucrat to rename the account using Special:Renameuser, then you can recreate it with a different password. I don't think there's any need to find out who did it. It's just one of those silly little things that bored kids do sometimes.

  • I'd like to be an admin on nds.wiktionary. Short time ago we spoke on nds.wikipedia about having a Wiktionary and were planning for a structured beginning. As luck would have it, also some people from other wiktionaries had the idea of beginning the nds.wiktionary, they have some wordlists they want to insert automatically, but for my knowledge noone of them speaks Low Saxon. It would be good, if I had the possibility to help sorting the things out. Recently also wikt:nds:Bruker:GerardM became admin, but he speaks no Low Saxon. There is no "requests for bureaucrat" section on that page, only "nominations", and I'm thinking of removing that. Since bureaucrats can only be created by stewards and developers, and these folks have to sort out every wiki, it would make more sense for these requests to be managed centrally at Meta, otherwise the poor stewards will have to regularly check every wiki (of which there are hundreds), and I don't believe this is what actually happens. I also realize that this page states "where no local means exists", but something you have to realize about the nature of wiki is that even though a page may exist, it doesn't mean aynone reads it, or keeps it up-to-date. Most of our sysops are inactive, and this is a problem. Many users have tried to get sysop status by applying on that page, but found that nothing ever happens, and eventually give up. As a consequence, there is no-one there to combat the ongoing vandalism. I'm hoping the the same is not true of this wiki. Update: I'm somewhat concerned by the fact that I can make administrators, but I can't remove them. One of the mechanisms required for the swift granting of admin permissions must be the ability to swiftly remove such permissions, in the event the the user is deemed to have excessively abuse their new-found power. Our wiki runs the 1.5beta with the Special:Userrights page (which I assume would allow this functionality), but I don't seem to be able to access it. Only stewards can technically remove the rights of an editor. Not a bureaucrat. When it is necessary to remove rights of someone, it must be first decided on a local wiki, by the whole community (by any mean necessary - typically voting). Only after this has been decided, you may come over here or ask a steward on irc for speeder reaction, and the steward will carry on the request. Remember : sysops are normally trusted editors, they may go wrong, but they will normally not be vandals (unless you give sysop power in a very strange way). Anthere

  • I have had my edit privledges revoked for 48 hours by en:User:David_Gerard for sock puppetry. The IP in question is a proxy server for tunnelrats.org.au, the server in question has a member access list of in excess of 178 people, (access to the members dbase I had provided to David_Gerard) and on polite discussion with him informing him that there is no foul play occuring or intended, he responded with a quip on my talk page that 'he's not stupid'.
I can provide proxy logs and member dbase access to anyone wanting to verify this information is correct and factual, as I explained to him, if it was a case of sock puppetry I'd just cycle the IP address on the proxy server, but I would prefer to do things by the book as there was no instance of foul play or sock puppetry occuring. Could an administrator / steward please assist in this matter, as he seems to be quite a witch hunter of sock puppets and refuses to use any reasoning other than his belief. A bit over two months ago, I requested administrator status at the Interlingua wikipedia's administrator/RfA page. However, there has been no response from the administrators, positive or negative; in fact, only one admin (ILVI) has made any edits since I posted my request, and those were three edits total to two conlang pages. Some administrators there haven't made any edits since 2004. There are a few things I would like to do to help the Interlingua wikipedia grow (for example, fix a glaring typo on the front page, translate some parts of the interface that are still in English, and translate the graphic which is notably not in Interlingua) that can only be done by an admin or a sysop. Andre, you closed this Wikipedia without asking anybody. It was a little bit active right up until you closed it. Please, re-open it since there are people wanting to work on it now. The simple reason why people are wanting to use sh: is that they do not believe Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian are separate languages, and want to work in a multinational environment which is more conducive to NPOV than the separate-wikis setup. --Node ue 00:29, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Another possible justification:
All new languages on territory of ex-Yugoslavia are trying to promote there specific usage and speakers often find any alternative usage offensive. It is difficult to contribute if you know that you going to upset or even offend part of your target audience. Slovenian is not part of "Serbo-Croatian". Serbo-Croatian includes only Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian. In fact, between the official languages of Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia, there are mostly only minor spelling differences. Many international organisations still treat Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian as a single language to cut down on translation costs, since only about 3% of the vocabulary is any different, and often it's just in the spelling. --Node ue 07:03, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Actually, Serbian uses both alphabets (Cyrillic and Latin), while Croatian uses just Latin. Serbo-Croatian, as a unified language, is usually written in the Latin alphabet. Hi; Ronline, Danutz, and I finally reached an agreement regarding mo.wiki about one month ago, which seems to be echoed across the ro.wiki community.

Recently, a group of Romanian nationalist vandals has showed up, labelling the Wikipedia as "communist", "npov", and "soviet" simply because they don't think that the 5% of Moldovans who use Cyrillic, and the 33% of Moldovans who call their language Moldovan (as opposed to Romanian), have a right to do so. One of them was willing to discuss it at first, but now they have resorted to petty vandalism.

This is an emergency situation as it is a very real possibility that they;'ll destroy the Wikipedia to an extent where it's difficult to repair.

None of the vandals are registered users.

If, after the situation is solved, I do not receive Ronline and Danutz' blessing (which I think I will), I will step down immediately.

  • Can you please grant me sysop status on the Gaeilge Wikipedia, their are a huge amount of grammar mistakes on the interface pages.   • Swedish Wikipedia currently has five administrators who has formally asked for their own resignation. Currently it seems we have no way of removing administrator priviliges from an admin; our programmer/developer (the only one, as far as I know) has previously done so in a few cases but does not feel it is his job any more; it should be done by a steward, he says.
  • The situation is to large extent the result of a long series of conflicts with and around an administrator who many of as label as problematic, as an editor and as an administrator. As far as I understand this user has been technically proven - as far as that is possible - to be identical with a user who is currently on a three month ban from English Wikipedia for the use of sock puppets. This user is, by most of us who have been around for a while, considered a true member of the troll species.
  • When for the second time challenged with a poll regarding withdrawal of admin priviledges, this administrator announced that he voluntarily withdrew from the post. It can not be excluded that this was done for tactical reasons; since the procedure of how to remove administrator status on Swedish Wikipedia is not clear, a couple of such requests have been around for a while but nothing has happened with them. Most, if not all, of these other cases of administrator asking for removal of their admin status is a result of this long ongoing situations with continous conflicts, that is wearing and tearing on all of us. The logical thing to do IMO would be to remove the admin status for all five of them. Those who have the trust of the Sw WP public, can always be re-elected later.

  • Following the request of our lb-wiki bureaucrat Briséis, I should be grateful if you could grant bot status to both ChronoBot and LuxBot.
    ChronoBot creates basic chronology schemes to be afterwards filled with content by human users. Being up to ten times faster at this task than any human, this frees a lot of time for the work on the content itself. ChronoBot has already been tested on two centuries and works perfect now.
    LuxBot intends to correct Luxembourg articles with respect to orthography. The spell-check applies only to common spelling mistakes. Currently, LuxBot operates only half-automated, but it is planned to use a full-automated version once a routine excluding external links from the spell-check will have been included in the code. In fact, if you will check his edit history, you will find he has made heaps of edits, while other people (such as Untifler, who doesn't speak Chuvash, from the Tatar Wikipedia) have only made 0~20.
PCode is the first to make things at cv. I know the history of that Wikipedia: it's been created according to a message from a Russian boy, who could not do much there because of his poor Chuvash. Since then PCode is the first active user, in fact. It'd be good to grat him adminship so that he could translate the interface and do similar things. There is a consensus (three users, including a sysop) that I should be the bureaucrat, since I've been sending the RfA's to this page for some time anyways. I'm already a sysop at the vi: wiki (username: Mxn). There is currently a poll to decide what exactly to call a bureaucrat in Vietnamese, by the way. Also, there is a user by the name of Vương Ngân Hà who was nominated by a sysop, and has received suppport from two other sysops (including me). This project is not so inactive, however the basic guidelines have not been established yet and we have many administrative issues and problems. Hi there, I'm CdaMVvWgS from German and Nauruan Wikipedia, where I'm mainly active and where I'm also a sysop. I'd like to request permission to be a sysop (or bureaucrat, if possible) on Nauruan Wiktionary (http://na.wiktionary.org/). There are 9 registered user, but no admin; just about 5 users ever did some contributions, and the last few months there was no activity. But since there are now at least 1 or 2 native Nauruans on Nauruan Wikipedia and we have few words to be "saved" somewhere outside of the Wikipedia, I'd like to implement them on Wiktionary build up now the basis for the Nauruan Wiktionary; other users like "Belgian man" or "S.V.E.T." then would also participate in the work. It should be pointed out that this account of the events is untrue. Regretfully, the whole case seems to be very similar to the recent expulsion of Z. Without going into much detail, I would like to mention that a spelling change that violated an approved rule on cs.wiki was made and my alleged breach of the 3RR was merely due to my legitimate attempt to enforce the rule. I tried to discuss the matter with the other members involved in the dispute, who later admitted that I was absolutely correct in interpreting the rule. Therefore, the ban was wholly unwarranted and it was in order to overrule it. I always try to settle things peacefully, and it was only due to excessive use of reverts by the other members that the conflict escalated, but again, if it were not for my banning (without taking a vote, even without a word of warning), there would be no conflict now. I still hope for things to be resolved by discussion rather than by using (and potentially abusing) formal authorities. --Tompecina 21:20, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

This is not a problem anymore. I left cs.wiki with no intention of coming back. Basically, as I said earlier, these people are bullies, knowing very little about what making an encyclopaedia is about (most of them posses no recognisable expert knowledge or skills they could contribute - some of them writing in hideous, semi-illiterate Czech at that). Their only concern is the POWER they can exert over those who actually work for the community, telling them how to do things they cannot do themselves, correcting their alleged spelling errors (which are no errors at all) and flexing their egos by punishing them for non-existent infractions. The prognosis is bleak: either the community is going to summon enough strength to get rid of the wimps who are terrorising it (which is unlikely to happen), or cs.wiki will become a quagmire run by worshippers of mediocrity, which it more or less is now. --Tompecina 09:07, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
The problems with Tompecina in this case were breaking three reverts rule (six reverts!) and misusing of administrator's rights in his own case. It is a bit funny if he says our only concern is power. As bureaucrat on the Czech Wikipedia I feel to write some short explanation.
On the 18th September in reaction of Tompecina's messages in summaries of his contributions I asked Tompecina by mail if he really wants to give up sysop rights. He answered me by mail: "Yes." It was before action of stewards. Tompecina later also wrote on his own page (as new user Tomáš Pecina, because account Tompecina was temporarily blocked), that he will not work on the Czech Wikipedia. He also wrote on meta: "I left cs.wiki with no intention of coming back."
It means that Tompecina once wrote he does not want to be a sysop. He twice wrote he does not want to work on the cs Wikipedia. So now I am surprised what he writes here. Detailed description I already sent to steward Datrio (including parts of mails with translation to Datrio's mother tongue). I promissed him that I can send whole mail correspondention if he ask for it.
Today morning I sent mail to Tompecina, that if he changed decision, then he himself has to write it and in that case let he himself ask stewards for sysop rights back. --Ludek 09:52, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

Well, the Latvian Wiktionary hasn't had any edits in some time. Please first:
  1. Make some edits to it, so we can see you're interested in this project
  2. List your request for adminship on some local page on Wiktionary, so the community users in the future will be aware you have been made a sysop in that way.

If you look at a broader span of recent edits, say, more than a week, you can see that I had been contributing to it even before this morning.
I have placed a separate notice on Latvian Wiktionary as well.
Is there a issue concerning the language of those notices? Is that the reson why it is taking so long? If it helps, my interest in this whole project in long-term could be seen, e.g., from my contributions to English Wikipedia.

I do not support that. There is currently a privacy policy very little respected by anyone, and supposingly, this tool is only accessible to one arbcom member and Tim. We are far from the account. So, if we change this, we must absolutely change first the privacy policy not to claim we do not do certain things that are in reality done routinely. This seems a little more contentious than I originially supposed. My reasoning for requesting this is, as per Privacy policy: Where the user has been vandalising articles or persistently behaving in a disruptive way, data may be released to assist in the targeting of IP blocks, or to assist in the formulation of a complaint to relevant Internet Service Providers. If you wish to U-turn this policy, that is fine also, and I shall withdraw my request. In the past I had been taking each case of AP vandalism (which happens quite regularly) to Brion VIBBER (or another one of the admin-dudes) who released the IP info as per this policy, but I got the impression he was getting a bit fed up with my frequent requests, so it was suggested by another one of the admin-dudes (I forget which), that I should apply for this flag. Also, I don't consider this a personal attack at all, and you are right to be concerned, since the page CheckUser seems to read more like a discussion page than a policy document, and is thus unclear as to when this flag should be granted, and under what circumstances it should be used. It might be suggested to wait until this document is more clearly defined, but since no-one is actually personally responsible for maintaining this document, it may never happen. - Aya T C 16:54, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

Let me explain more. Here are some bits of from the privacy policy which are currently of my concern :

When using a pseudonym, your IP address will not be available to the public, but it will be stored on the wiki servers for a relatively short amount of time. Thus it will be available to developers and may be released under certain circumstances (see below).

Below mentions It is the policy of Wikimedia that personally identifiable data collected in the server logs will not be released by the developers who have access to it, except as follows: In response to a valid subpoena or other compulsory request from law enforcement

  • With permission of the affected user
  • To Jimbo Wales, his legal counsel, or his designee, when necessary for investigation of abuse complaints.
  • Where the information pertains to page views generated by a spider or bot and its dissemination is necessary to illustrate or resolve technical issues.
  • Where the user has been vandalising articles or persistently behaving in a disruptive way, data may be released to assist in the targeting of IP blocks, or to assist in the formulation of a complaint to relevant Internet Service Providers
  • Where it is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of the Wikimedia Foundation, its users or the public.

Wikimedia policy does not permit public distribution of such information under any circumstances, except as described above.

Now, the line might be between what we qualify as "public release" to "release to some editors". But I already witnessed myself one case where an ip check was made on a user who was hardly disruptive and did not qualify as vandal, he was not told an ip check was made on him, and the request was simply done by an admin. This is frankly very borderline with our privacy policy. So, I think that before giving any check user rights to ANYONE (and this include stewards as well) we must clarify what is okay to do and not okay to do and under which circonstances. Or we need to update the privacy policy to indicate ip checks may be done with very limited restrictions. If the community is okay with this, then why not, but we should not write something and do another. Please see what is currently written on the check user page as well. Perhaps, but I can get this infomation more quickly by asking for it in #wikimedia-tech. At least one of the people in there is actually paid money to take on the responsibility for providing this information, whereas (as far as I am aware) stewards are merely volunteers and have no responsibilities at all, thus they can all go on an indefinite Wikibreak if they like. Brion's is absolutely not bound to give you this information and is not paid for this task. I also trust he will give it to you only for cases of vandalism. Which is precisely the problem at stack. I would only ask in cases of vandalism (this is the whole context of this thread). I don't care about sock-puppetry (which was the original, rather pathetic, reason for introducing this feature). We have far more sane ways of dealing with this, which is to judge disagreements not by the the number of "votes", but the reasoning behind said "votes". A "me-too vote" which is merely "I agree with Bob", is not weighed very highly. We never claimed to be a "direct democracy". I'm making this request to help prevent vandalism, thus your hinderences on this request encourage vandalism.
