Desysopping of cs:Wikipedista:Egg

Immediate action is needed. Egg behaves incorrectly and doesn't wish to stop it. Evidence (sorted from latest events):

  1. 18:28, 25. 4. 2006 he reverted my own page instead of deleting it as I have whished. I never authorised him to edit my page.
  2. 17:25, 25. 4. 2006 he blocked me for 3 whole days because I dared to edit the arbtration page between Miraceti and me. I reverted two times nonsense accusation that my friend Pastorius is actually my opponent and should be punished. The whole community was against accusation of Pastorius, except for Beren, Egg, Cynik & Jirka O.
  3. 14:14, 25. 4. 2006 he blocked 182162 indefinitely for alleged "improper name".
  4. He ran unregistred bot under his own name and under name Proxybot.
  5. He blocks open proxies for arbitrarily chosen number of days, instead for indefinite period. Reason is that he wishes to mask his blocking of innocent users because both cs:Special:Ipblocklist and cs:Special:Log/block are useless. They are are messed up with his robotic blocks (~ 6000 blocks).
  6. 15:33, 14. 4. 2006 he locked my page for unregistred users, although I had asked him twice to unlock my page.

Summary: Egg doesn't behave as a colleague. He doesn't know the rules and he misuse his powers. He needs to be desysopped immediately. -- V. Z. 17:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

To quote from the above instructions: "To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki." This is not the place to propose a user's desysopping. Please make a request here only after you have obtained consensus among the cs.wikipedia community. — Dan | talk 18:05, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

It is impossible, since I am blocked and everyone who dared to do it would be blocked as well. -- V. Z. 18:14, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I support V. Z.'s request. He is also right on money as far as impossibility of any action on Czech Wikipedia - any disent would be (and it is currently) punished by blocks from sysops. It is very Kafka-esque environment on Czech Wikipedia these days. Ross.Hedvicek 18:32, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

There are 12 other admins... I can't believe that no one of them is helping when there are problems. Please try first to solve this problem locally, there must be at least some reasonable admins... Fantasy 18:41, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
The last reasonable admins who would be willing to help were desysopped by Anthere last November, at the request of the local clique. The current controversy, including robotic blocking of thousands of IP addresses, banning of people like Ross.Hedvicek and V. Z. for months, etc., is a direct result of this. I am no more editing articles on cs:wiki - there's no point attempting this - all I'm doing is defending the new victims of the clique, and I am blocked for days and weeks for allegedly being "impolite" to the sysops. Cs:wiki is a disgrace to the whole project. --Tompecina 09:04, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

No, I am sorry. I was blocked yesterday in the direct breach of Czech ArbCom rules. I asked all the admins for the remedy, except for Aktron who has no valid e-mail adress, Proxybot who is a robot, and Vrba, who is long term ill. I recieved only 2 replies. One after 13 hours, second after 14 hours. Is that normal? -- V. Z. 19:04, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

If I remember well... this is not the first time you complain here... and my perception is that your requests were rarely taken seriously. I would consequently advise caution. Could we have a feedback from admins on cs ? Anthere

I have talked to our developers about that. They question the accuracy of the bot (wonders whether its data is correct and whether it is not blocking innocent users). But generally, this is considered a bad idea because there are extremely numerous ip addresses to block for being open proxies (so, is inefficient) and because it is a strain on the servers. As such, they strongly advise against.

I consequently unsysoped the account Proxybot and would suggest that the issue is brought to the wikitech-l mailing list, to check the interest, relevance and accuracy of this bot. Depending on the outcome, status could be restored or not.

I'll add that it is not really recommanded to mix bot and sysop status. And that the thousands of blocking make the ip block list totally unusable. Which is not very wikicool to other editors.

Anthere

Fine, the robot is stopped, let's find a better solution. I ran the bot with agreement of other sysops and bureaucrats, they were informed about it's each step and they didn't complain. There has been a huge abuse of sockpuppets for vandalizing and tricks on cs Wikipedia. Checkuser has shown frequent usage of open proxy servers. We know about the big disadvantage of the robotic solution that is in messing the logs. We didn't find any better way to face the problems. The community is relatively small, we don't have enough people to precisely scan and block open proxies by hand. Some help on this topic would be useful. --Egg 23:27, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello. See the discussion here http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/foundation-l/2006-April/006863.html please. Anthere
I reply to you here, because I don't wish to submit harassing procedure of registering into the listserver. "Member States shall grant the right to every person not to be subject to a decision which produces legal effects concerning him or significantly affects him and which is based solely on automated processing of data intended to evaluate certain personal aspects relating to him, such as his performance at work, creditworthiness, reliability, conduct, etc." [5]. Egg by running his unregistred bot has breached this European Directive. -- V. Z. 08:24, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
V. Z. is currently banned from editing most of cswiki, including his user page, by a preliminary arbcom decision. Editing of arbitration page mentioned in his second point could be interpreted as an attempt to provoke an edit war (he was for example couting number of reverts in his edit summaries). Therefore I'd say that the block was o.k., considering that V. Z. has already been blocked several times for disruptive behavior during the arbitration.
As to the proxy bot, I don't see anything wrong on blocking open proxies on cswiki, although I agree that technical problems might be an issue. --che 23:30, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
In case it was unclear, I do not question Vit block... I would mostly like that the issue is brought up with Brion, JeLuF, Mark, Tim, so that the best solution is sought. Anthere
I am sorry, but Che misinformed you. Czech ArbCom has 5 members. Arbitration with me is headed by panel of 3 arbitrators. Art. 11 first sentence of Czech ArbCom Procedural Code says: "One case shall allowed to be solved by the part of the ArbCom, but always but three members at least." (boldness mine). Two anonymous arbitrators decided to have me blocked without counsulting the third. It was the direct breach of this clause.
And concerning material base of this ban: 8 people were involved in this revert war. No one breached 3RR, I have counted them to avoid that. Only me was banned by a three-day ban lacking any warning.
And last point. Che and others punished me for doing minor edits calling them "disruptive behavior". They even reverted them in order to erase my contribution to Wikipedia. -- V. Z. 09:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Only a small note - a case is allways heard by workgroup of at least 3 arbitrators (in this case, exactly 3, Beren, Petr Adámek and me). For individual decisions, part 13. of Arb. policy applies, stating: An injunction is considered to have passed when two or more Arbitrators have voted in favour of it and more Arbitrators were in favour than against it. --Wikimol 13:40, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes, that is true. I have tried to educate Czech sysops about difference between w:quorum and majority, but it seems in vain. They simply don't understand this sentence: "When quorum is not met, a legislative body cannot hold a vote, and cannot change the status quo." Individual decisions (?) are nonsense. What is the other kind? -- V. Z. 13:59, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
I was under the impression you asked for feedback of cs: admins on that. Never mind ;-) I think that the two problems of the bot could be addressed by putting proxy addresses directly into the database. But then one would have to change database schema and make a new interface on the web in order to distinguish regular and proxy blocks and to allow overriding of false positives. (Eh, I suppose there is better place to discuss that than this page...) --che 23:54, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

To Anthere. Yes, it is not. I do it only in case of urgent need. I am disappoited that my petition are not taken seriously. Are they unsounded? Is cs: left to its fate? No one cares what is happenning there? I think no one inhibits Czech admins to express their opinions here.

I have sent more detailed petition to the Foundation. Will you please take a look at it? It was collaborated here: http://wikipedie.blogspot.com/2006/04/present-situation-on-cs.html -- V. Z. 09:34, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

I concur. After Anthere's imprudent decision last November to forcibly desysop several admins who had not been reelected, the situation on cs:wiki got much worse and turned into open dictatorship. --Tompecina 14:56, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

tr.wikipedia.org

Our old sysops, who got their adminships without any elections, have been voted for the first time by request of our community. And some of them couldnt pass the required level of vote percent. You can see the results and votes here. I am hereby to request removal of adminship for the following users.

Thanks in advance. --Özgür 14:26, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
All done except Volkan - this user is also a bureaucrat. Please let us know how the tr.wiki community will handle this case. Thank you. --Paginazero 12:25, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Tr community already knows that he is a bureaucrat. If he cannot get enough vote to become a sysop, is there a need to consider his bureaucrat title? But, of course, if it is important to consider him seperate and if you can tell me what we need to do, I can take that step rightaway. Thanks for your help and also for your concern. --Özgür 19:21, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
I too suppose that a new vote for confirming the bureaucrat flag would end up with the same result. However, a bureaucrat can appoint administrators, take care of user renames and flagging bots without acting as administrator him/herself.
I'm going to remove the administrator flag (as per votation) and leave the bureaucrat flag active. If tr.wiki intends to put under discussion Volkan's bureaucrat flag, please start another vote. This can look troublesome, but in my humble opinion is a more correct and transparent process. Thank you. --Paginazero 13:47, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
OK. I will inform tr.wiki about this. I (actually we) thought that, bureaucrat level requires sysop level first. (Not technically but ethically) So I was assuming that failing to be becoming a sysop, automatically drops the bureaucrat level too. But I know what you are saying: We should consider sysop and bureaucrat seperate or more precisely 'independent'. I will back to you soon. (I hope) --Özgür 15:38, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Paginazero, we don't need another vote. I forfeit my bureaucrat access privileges. I will add the same message to my discussion page as well. volkan 10:13, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

MediaWiki version upgrade problems on ca

  • Language Code: ca

Hi :-) I'm a catalan wikipedia (ca:portada) sysop, and I dont't know where to leave this message... We need urgent help, today, after MediaWiki version upgrade, we have serious problems with our ca:Special:Allmessages page. All the messages hav been automatically "reverted" to an older version, affecting the normal behavior of Wikipedia, in the list old versions of messages are shown. Cliking on a messages, for example ca:MediaWiki:Recentchangestext, ca:MediaWiki:Monobook.js shows the new text, and after a null edition, the message returns to the correct version... But there are near 1.500 messages and I cannot null edit all!!! Help please !! Thank you. Joanjoc 21:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

After the lack of response, we are null editing manually the downgraded pages... Maybe the next update will be less buggy :-) --Joanjoc 22:38, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
