Irish language Wiktionary / gawikt

I request sysop access.

I am currently temporary sysop on this wikti, originally joining last August when the wiki was badly damaged and dormant. Since then, I, with the help of some other folks, have successfully revived the wiki. New editors are regularly joining and our mainspace page count has doubled. In the space of just six weeks, I've accumulated more than 1,000 edits. I have successfully translated most of MediaWiki space into the local language and am now feeding changes back via Betawiki (thanks, Siebrand :) ). As this is my native language, I took this on as a "labour of love" and would love to stay on as sysop there. My recent local RfA, found here, has been running over a week now & has received support from the key editors there. My temporary approval has previously been logged on meta here and is due to run out soon.

Jakoli4@stwiktionary

I would like to request administrator status for the Sesotho wiktionary again - http://st.wiktionary.org/

I've had temporary access twice before: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions/Archives/2007/08#st.wikitionary.org_Sesotho_Wiktionary_Administrator_Request

I've contributed the greatest amount of the almost 900 Sesotho words found on the wiktionary, see:

http://st.wiktionary.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jakoli4

There are some untranslated words and phrases in the environment that needs to be completed and there doesn't seem to be any administrators for it available.

Kind regards Jako Olivier (JAKOli4)

Hi Jako,
For normal adminship, you need to gather consensus at the community first. Please do so if you want to become regular admin. Effeietsanders 09:55, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

How come, I expected exactly this response? Please, folks, the hsb.wikt was only just created. Ewornar is the one who proposed it and created almost all the existing content on the incubator. He needs sysop access to get started. There is no community yet, just as there is no content. It's absolutely pointless to demand from him to simulate elections on a completely empty wiki. Please show some common sense and grant him at least temp sysop access. --Johannes Rohr 17:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

bar.wikipedia

Thank you --217.95.11.104 16:53, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Seven votes in favor. I am doubtfull whether that community is large enough. I would like to suggest to let the community wait a little longer before getting an own bureaucrat (only five admins). However, please another stewards opinion :) Effeietsanders 17:02, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
I think it's a good idea, as it may help the community to expand and be more independant. DarkoNeko 14:03, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
If I may add my humble opinion here, the reason why we think we need a bureaucrat is the user-name-spamming. We have a vandal who loves to create user accounts in order to insult a group of German Wikipedia Admins, by means of the user name alone. Those need to be renamed. This vandal comes back every few months or so with a new IP range (maybe he goes on name-spamming vacations?) and a new range of dirty words. At the moment I am counting around 20 user names of this kind, and you might agree that linking them here on Meta will only serve the vandal's purpose (of getting attention and spreading his insults) once more, while this could be done with less of a fuss by our own bureaucrat. --bar:user:libellulia 11:50, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Not done Hi, please gather consensus at your local community. If the page you referred to was the vote to prove the consensus, I think that only three voting commuity members are too little to grant bureaucratship. (the community is too small then) You can process the requests for bureaucrats then through this page. Effeietsanders 07:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Chinese (Wu) Wikipedia

I request bureaucrat/sysop access.

I request access because this Wikipedia has been dormant for quite a while now (both bureaucrat and sysop are inactive for 1-2 months now), and I would like to revive it by not only writing articles, but also performing admin/bureaucrat tasks when requested. I will also make use of these tools to translate the user interface as well as pages that haven't been fully translated. Thank you. O2 () 02:43, 13 October 2007 (GMT)

Hi! To translate the interface, BetaWiki is by far the best place to do it, you should not do it on the local project. As for bureaucrat access, a wiki doesn't really need a bureaucrat until it has about 5–6 administrators; until then, the number of bureaucrat actions needed is very small, and can be performed by stewards instead. To become an administrator, you should initiate a vote, and let it stay open for at least a week before requesting access here. Thanks, Jon Harald Søby 11:21, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Ukrainian Wiktionary

I request bureaucrat access for user Minia.

Not done -- Bureaucrats are needed if there are more and more tasks to be done. Currently, according to the vote, the ukwiki community is quite small, and I think it is better in that case to wait a little while longer untill the community is some larger, and untill then you can of course file your requests here. Check User access

Chechen Wikipedia

Salam. I'd like to request a CheckUser access on t he Chechen Wikipedia. There is no current local community at the time, only active editors such as me and well, not very active at the moment Mega Programmar. I have done a lot on the Chechen wikipedia, and I'd like to do more. I am currently a Bereaucrat and Sysop there. The link above will take you to the Administrators page, where it can be confirmed I am indeed a Bereaucrat and sysop. Thanks! --Girdi 15:47, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

The Checkuser policy requires that there needs to be at least two checkusers on any given wiki and these need to be elected by the community. (Therefore, the stewards cannot grant this request.) If you need a CheckUser done for some reason, please put them on Requests for CheckUser information and a steward will perform the check for you. Cbrown1023 talk 16:02, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Please standby with this vote for a little bit. I have contacted the other bereaucrat about this. I think two checkusers would be better to have on Chechen wiki at the moment. Thank you for the information sir. :) --Girdi 16:12, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
You'll need approval from the local community (25 votes), and you're required to have two or more checkusers at any time. Majorly (talk) 16:17, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Hello Majorly, the problem with it is we don't have that big of a local community, only 2 or 3 active people. Which since a new term of university commenced, activeness has declined for us. Although I am talking with Mega programmar, the other active beraucrat to try to have 2 checkusers on the CE wiki at the same time. We will see. :) --Girdi 16:24, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
If only two or three are active, you don't need local checkusers. You'll have to ask stewards :) Majorly (talk) 16:32, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Well it is always good to think of the future. :) And it saves inconvience for Stewards, I am sure they have more important work to do then to worry about a 150 article Chechen wiki project. (didnt mean this in a rude way, hence that please!) :) --Girdi 16:56, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Those are the rules, unfortunately. You need support from 25 users on both CheckUser requests otherwise you'll just have to let stewards do it for you. --Deskana 09:19, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Not done Checkuser gives access to some private information, and therefore we are very cautious to whom we grand access. Therefore one of the requirements is that only "large" communities can elect checkusers. The threshold has been set on 25 pro-voters. I hope for your understanding. Hello!

I'm Shiju Alex an admin in Malayalam Wikipedia. Recently I was elected as a sysop in Malayalam Wikipedia with the mission of creating Special upload pages in Malayalam Wikipedia. (As in the English Wikipedia (for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=en-ownwork).)

But when I started working on the project I came to know that there are some bugs in the wikimedia software because of which I will not be able to create those special upload pages. I have logged a bug for the same in Bugzilla (http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11538). But I have not received any response for this bug from the developers.

So I do not find any meaning in continuing as sysop since I will not be able to create those special upload pages. So please remove my sysop rights. I will be continue working as a normal user in Malayalam Wikipedia. Thank you.

And please don't spit on me because of the hard-to-change software. It is just the way MediaWiki, the software, works, whether we like it or not. Swahili Wiktionary

I request sysop access.

I've been sysop before on temporary, I live in Nairobi; I have tried to interest people (e.g. at Kenyatta Univ.) and continue; sw.wikt needs someone to clean up various SPAM. Thank you. Robert Ullmann 21:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

For permanent access please gather consensus at the local community. Note that there is also the possibility to apply for temporary sysopship. Effeietsanders 10:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I didn't realize there was now a different section. There is no local community yet, although I have been trying to build one by talking to people at KU, etc. Robert Ullmann 16:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
It would also be useful to set 'bot flag for RobotGMwikt, also for rw and ts below. Robert Ullmann 19:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
The only thing a bot flag does is hiding those edits from the default recent changes. That is not a good idea for a wiki that has no community and almost no edits. --Walter Do you have news? Report it to Wikizine 14:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I request temporary access because there is nobody on this wiki...

Maori wiktionary

I request temporary sysop access

I have been trying to rekindle activity lately but then the site got hit by a spambot and the sysops are not taking care of it. I would like to clean up and continue to put in the odd word in the hope mother tongue speakers will join.

I request sysop access. There are over 200 speedy deletion candidates that need to be cleaned up. One of the bureaucrats hasn't been active since 2006, the other one is on Wikibreak.

Thank you. -- Prince Kassad 18:11, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Looks like he's been on Wikibreak since April. See [24] and [25], backlog. ~Kylu (u|t) 02:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Miscellaneous

Newari Wikipedia

I counted about 1,500 pages on that wiki which only consist of categories or templates (and thus are essentially empty) (see new:Special:Shortpages. Since all of these were created by the only sysop, and he would probably block me if I tried to put the deletion template on the pages, I request deletion of these pages by a steward here. -- Prince Kassad 19:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I've put deletion templates on some empty pages in ks.wikipedia, where it seems the same person is sysop, and I was not blocked for it, rather thanked (those pages probably were not made by him though).
Please assume good faith, and talk to him about it rather than force mass deletion. All though empty articles seems useless there is no rule against it (that I know of), and hopefully he has plans about giving them (more) content. --Jorunn 13:02, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
You have strange problems... Are You active in this community? Then maybe You should rather not request pages that are not obviously vandalism for deletion here. You could also request most entries of the Russian Wiktionary for deletion then. It is the communities decicion. Besides, Eukesh (I guess You are talking about him), is a reasonable and respected user. You did not even try to talk to him. [26] --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:13, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I didn't try because I know he will say 'no' (who wouldn't?). And for me, empty pages are speedy candidates, because they contain no information and needlessly raise the article count. -- Prince Kassad 13:59, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
PS: I checked the Russian Wiktionary because you mentioned it. They contain content (I could only find 4 or 5 speedy candidates, no more) so I would leave them alone if I were a sysop on the Russian Wiktionary. -- Prince Kassad 14:04, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Then, sorry to say that, maybe there would be nothing wrong in blocking You there if You can't respect other community rules. In de.wikt for example entries get deleted that are allowed in en.wikt. It is, as said, a decision of the community, not Yours. And not contacting the local admin but instead requesting deletion here without any notification there is imho underhand. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:12, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
So if the community somehow decides to host a large collection of copyvios or viruses, we're supposed to sit back and watch as they violate the basic principles of a wiki? -- Prince Kassad 14:56, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
This is not the case, no? :') --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=|
IMO, one of the basic principles of a wiki is that it's a source of information. If that was not the case, I would have already enabled a bot to get some of the small Wikipedias to 1 billion pages (which, according to you, is nothing bad). -- Prince Kassad 15:38, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually exactly that is what some wikiprojects have done. I did not say it was good, but I said that this (not creating copyvio pages whatsoever) is a community decision. And if You are not in favor of that contact the local community. --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:45, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
A global resolution needs to be made about this. But RfP clearly is the wrong place for this. -- Prince Kassad 16:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Russian Wiktionary: maybe You did not check well enough lots of entries are only empty template pages. But this was only an example. It is their decision to have it like this. --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:14, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
IOppose Prince Kassad 's proposition ,Undersigne has observed User:Eukesh sysop of Nepal Bhasha Wikipedia is user of reasonable consciance and need not be forced without giving him a chance, secondly let local wikipedia community develop and take decisions, another thing is I have observed Eukesh busy doing considerable amount of contribution in Hindi Language Wikipedia please note the scripts used for Hindi and Nepal bhasha being the same its going to be far easier reach for translations to him. One more thing is for people from smaller languages and developing countries is going to take time , please avoid temptation of over policing .

Mahitgar 04:40, 6 October 2007 (UTC) (Sysop Marathi Language Wiktionary)

Not done - this is clearly an issue for the local community. It is up to the local community to decide whether it is fine to have these articles or not. Please bring it up there. Stewards will not make this type of decisions. Effeietsanders 21:10, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

English wikipedia

Hi! I'm a bot approvals guy from the English Wikipedia, and I need a bot, w:User:RedirectCleanupBot, given the bot flag. I'm posting here because it already has the sysop flag, so the mere mortals that usually flag bots cannot do it. The bot was approved at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RedirectCleanupBot. Thanks, ST47 11:50, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

The link given above does not work, please use w:Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RedirectCleanupBot, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:02, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure whether this is allowed per policies. Deletions should always be visible to the community afaik. Generally it is considered not done to have both flag at the same time. I'd like a second opinion here, but I tend to negative. Effeietsanders 12:31, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
The community was asked and the consensus has shown that they wish this to be done. We could have done it ourselves, but the bureaucrat who promoted must have not read the instructions on how to do it on the talk page... Ahh, I see, the RfA wasn't linked to you: w:Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/RedirectCleanupBot. Cbrown1023 talk 12:48, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
No, I didn't do it wrong. Bots need to be approved by BRFA to get bog flagging, and in order to pass the approvals process it needs to do a trial, for which it requires admin rights. Not that it matters anyway, it's been flagged now per my requests on the Requests for Bot Flagging page. --Deskana 18:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I had noticed the earlier when I appended the RfA link but forgot to append my original statement, I'm sorry. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 18:27, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I forgive you ;-) --Deskana 18:30, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
The bots main aim is to delete and fix Broken redirects which doesn't really need to be visible to the community since its just general cleanup work--Cometstyles 12:38, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
