I request sysop access.

A few months ago I moved to a new account (en:User:D. Recorder) and brought my sysop bit with me, however, now I would like to go back to my prior username (en:User:DVD R W. Can someone transfer my bit for me by desysoping D. Recorder and resysoping DVD R W? I don't need to merge all the edits, I'll just leave a link to the account on my userpage, and abandon my D. Recorder account. I was referred here after discussion at en:WP:CHU [2] Please let me know what I need to do to do this. Sorry for any inconvenience. Regards, DVD R W 20:07, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm requesting bureaucrat access for Str4nd in fi Wikinews. We had a consensus about our first sysops and bureaucrats. Discussion was open from 25 November to 2 December.

Thank you. AtteL 12:20, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Not done In a community with just 86 registered accounts (some of which are accounts created by Stewards and other Wikimedia users who maintain accounts in multiple projects) and 3 admins, we can't appoint 2 Bureaucrats (considering the request for AtteL, below). There simply isn't regular use for the tools associated with the bit. Perhaps in a few months, if the project continues to grow? Sorry about that. Redux 16:31, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

We were asked in IRC to get some consensus in this thing. We already requested for this in November (see archives).
02:02:22 < effeietsanders> AtteL: and gather consensus in the mean while, to get permanent access
We also had a little situation with stoled nicknames. AtteL 18:02, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi AtteL, sorry for the inclearity. I meant consensus regarding adminship, not bureaucratship. Sorry for the confusion. Effeietsanders 18:36, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
In addition, notice that we need to consider the existing demand for the Bcrat tools on any project. In cases where only low traffic — meaning: contexts in which the tools would only be used sporadically — exists, the occasional requests are handled quite easily by the Stewards, on demand. Redux 21:08, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Even project is small, it would be best if fiwikinews would have at least one bureaucrat: there are couple bots waiting bot flag, multiple stolen nicknames to rename (which need almost fluent finnish to resolve which accounts are stolen) and so on. If AtteL drop out himself, is it possible to have bureaucrat rights for Str4nd? --Agony 20:13, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

The Bureaucrat bit gives a user access to 3 tools: Makesysop (creating new sysops locally), Rename and Makebot. It would appear that the present need for Bcrat tools on fi.wkinews is focused on 5 or 6 accounts that "borrowed" usernames from established users on fi.wiki. It also appears that this happened over a few days in late November and has since stopped, leaving only the already-existing accounts to be renamed. That is low traffic. All the community needs is to tell the Stewards to rename the 5 accounts exactly (X to Y, A to B, etc.) and that would be it. There still doesn't seem be a lasting need for a permanent Bcrat on such a small project (you called it "recently created" yourself in the thread for the CheckUser request). That could change, if in the next few months more people come, especially from fi.wiki, and start working on fi.wikinews, making the community larger and creating a continuous need for Bcrat tools — notice: "continuous" does not equal "large". "Continuous" means that there would always, or at least almost always, be something for a Bcrat to do, even if it isn't too many things. What it appears to exist right now is a localized need for a few renames, created by a localized inappropriate-account creation "spree" that, according to the pages linked, seems to be already over.
But if the project is going to have a Bcrat in the near future, it would indeed be interesting to gather consensus for a single name, at least at first. Redux 12:18, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

That is correct: I made request couple days ago when it went wild, and I'm pretty sure this kind of borrowing will happen again (same type vandal attack was last seen in fiwikibooks [four different times actually] and in fiwikiquote last summer when apparently same vandal teased SWMT). But indeed: If you do think there are no continuous need for Bcrat, then there is no need for Bcrat. My own view for this is that ATM it is casual when Bcrat rights are needed, but near future (month or at most two months) it will be needed regularly. About consensus: we start public discussion about this. --Agony 15:42, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Please note, that the user is identified to the Wikimedia Italia chapter. But, in the future, do not assume that because someone was checkuser before, means that they've identified to the Foundation. The board resolution did not take effect until July 2007, and anyone who had access removed before September 2007, when we were in compliance, would not have been required to identify. Before the resolution which was passed in April existing CUs did not have to identify with their real name, etc. After the resolution was passed, all the people who had access to nonpublic data - CUs as well as e.g. OTRS volunteers - had to either confirm their personal details or leave the post. Done the removal of rights. There's not really any formal way to do the other two; we don't have a log of people whose privileges we are not allowed to re-instate. This reminds me of an anecdote I once heard about w:Samuel Taylor Coleridge, an opium addict: apparently he hired several men to prevent him from entering opium dens, but of course when he had a craving for opium and they tried to keep him out he threatened to have them arrested. Partially Done. I removed the status of Steve*fung, but regarding Dbmag9, although his last edit was June 5, I would not nitpick about the 3 days left for the six full months to be completed. I noticed however, that there seems to have been no visible attempt to contact the user about his inactivity. Why not use those 3 days to do that? At the very least, leave a message on his user talk page on the Incubator, notifying him that he is on the verge of being desysopped due to inactivity, per policy. It never hurts to at least try to ascertain the situation, especially since the 6 months haven't even been exceeded. Redux 14:25, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
OK, I informed him. --MF-Warburg(de) 14:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't need to be done anymore. He replied and that's an edit :-) --MF-Warburg(de) 09:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Huh? Isn't that a little bit ridiculous? And I think he means with "OK, fine" that his status can be removed. 2 edits from 1 April until 1 December. I thinks his status should be removed, but that's just my opinion. SPQRobin 12:13, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

And the intention wasn't to give the user an opportunity to make a single edit and thus "reset" the countdown for the inactivity deadline. The intention was to ascertain if the user had any intention to resume some kind of regular activity, now or, at least, in the near future. His reply seems to indicate the exact opposite. In fact, given what he said I'd say the status should be removed. The user seems to understand and accept that he should/would be desysopped per inactivity and policy, but that he just can't be active for the forseeable future. So unless the local community would prefer to have him retain the access because he replied to the notification, I can remove the access right now. Because of what Warburg just wrote, however, I'd prefer it if he would clarify what the community would like to see done in light of the user's response. The user won't be active, that much is clear, so it appears to be ok to desysop. A single edit after 6 months of inactivity doesn't make the user active. But it is, of course, up to the community to decide. Redux 19:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, MF-Warburg and me, that is already a big part of the community :-) So my opinion is to remove his access and maybe that MF-Warburg can give his opinion. SPQRobin 20:30, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
No problem with me to take away his access. --MF-Warburg(de) 16:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Done After having been consulted with some other stewards, we've come to the conclusion that this is a case of classical rouge admin that needs to be desysopped fast. With respect to that and to the 2 votes for desysop from valuable members of the community, I've decided to desysop Givi. --filip 09:05, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Ro.wiki admins under demote process

A process has been activated for the demoting of the 3 admins. This is according to the policy ro:Wikipedia:Destituiri, section 1, point 2.2 which states that any admin under demotion process will have its permissions redrawn for the period of the voting process. If you have further questions please contact me on my user page.--Radufan 10:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Objections

The process has been initiated on the basis of a rule specific to ro:wiki which states that an administrator can be revoked if at least 20% of the votes are against him if there are at least 10 wikipedians who are voting. This procedure is against the general policy of Wikipedia which is based on consensus. Before starting the process the consistency of the ro:wiki rule with wikipedia's policy should be investigated. I have not been able to find out where I have to voice my concern and therefore I am writing this note. As this is a conflict situation an arbitration would be necessary. I also consider that the process should be stopped until the basic question is solved: is the procedure applied appropriate or not. Implicitlty the permissions should not be withdrawn without an appropriate investigation of the process. The entire issue is a dispute which should be solved by arbitration not by having a small minority decide on the revocation of an administrator.

Besides there is a flaw in the request. Two of the persons involved are bureaucrats not only administrators. Afil 04:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

At ro.wiki admins are elected on a process that requires them to have 80% of votes for their candidacy. There are just a few cases in which an admin can lose its sysop status, as of ro:Wikipedia:Revocare (revoking), which is an official policy, widely discussed by the community and entered into force in januray 2007 (it was written by AdiJapan, one of the sysops proposed for demotion and was discuss subject to community approval here, with a support of 21 - 1, of which only mr Afil, above, was against). The three cases are: 1. demotion 2. resign 3. inactivty (over 1 year). The procedure we are discussing is based on the first point. To propose a demotion one must follow the policy at ro:Wikipedia:Destituiri. There is a high barrier on to whom can propose the demotion of a sysop: at least 3 sysops must sign the request only to begin the demotion process. This was done accordingly by myself, ro:User:Emily, ro:User:Cezarika (all 3 very experienced and among the best contributors on ro.wiki). Our reasons are, of course, serious. Once the three signed the demotion request, the procedure gets started. A requirement is that all sysops have their permissions removed during the demotion process. The policy clearly states that once the process started, the procedure is exactly the same as that of the election process (on the principle that a sysop must gain support just as if he were asking to be sysop). That's about it. Again, if you have further questions, please ask me on my user page or ask at ro:Wikipedia:Ambasadă (Embassy).--89.44.43.83 07:49, 19 December 2007 (UTC) (forgot to login --Radufan 07:50, 19 December 2007 (UTC))
In Wikipedia and also in ro:Wiki decisions are taken by consensus. There was no attempt to reach a consensus on the rules refered to above, but only a survey was made. Therefore the policy is not yet approved. I do not think that this is the place to discuss this issue, but still I consider that an arbitration is necessary. If this is not the right place, I would appreciate an advice on where a request for arbitration can be filed. I would also request the process to be put on hold until the arbitration committee reaches a decision. I can be reached on my discussion page on en:Wiki or ro:Wiki Afil 15:57, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

If I understand the policy correctly, it says "Se un amministratore non compie almeno 50 edit indistinti nell'arco di 3 mesi, viene automaticamente desysoppato. Può ricandidarsi in qualsiasi momento.". Is it correct that that means "If an admin did not do 50 different edits over a time of three month, he is automatically desysopped"? I would like it if someone speaking italian could confirm this and could confirm there are no other clauses in the policy contradicting this. Thanks. Effeietsanders 16:03, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Irish Gaelic Wiktionary

Requesting temporary (three months) administrator access.

I'm an administrator on the English Wikipedia. I was recently recruited by Alison, the only active administrator on the Gaelic Wiktionary, to assist her with housekeeping tasks as she (and now I) try to get this project back on the road.

Her request for temporary permissions (which was granted as three months) can be seen here. Although I don't speak quite as good Irish Gaelic as Alison, I can speak a little and I am in regular contact with Alison via email and IRC so I should be fine.

Hopefully we can get this project cleaned up and draw in some more users to make it a substantial language Wiktionary :)

Cheers, Daniel 05:38, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm absolutely fine with that. We could use all the help we can get over there. Things are progressing well right now but there's a lot of sysop work to do yet - Alison 06:00, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Since you mentioned the local admin being highly active on another project, as well as the fact that the damage was done quite some time back, we might need to wait a couple of days longer, to give him time to actually get around to the work needed. Further, could you inform him that you have requested temporary adminship on ks.wiki due to his lack of response and provide us with a link (diff) to this post, which would be, I take it, on the Newari Wikipedia? Sorry, could not respond in time as I was out of town for a few days (btw, I was not active in any wikipedia after 25th Nov, neither in my "home" wikipedia, nor in my "non-home" wikipedia!). Have started working on Kashmiri wikipedia. It is not all spam and can be transformed into stubs. Btw, ethnologue considers usage of "Newari" as an offensive term to denote "Nepal Bhasa/Newar", so please try to use less of that term. All the same, thanks a lot for checking Kashur wiki for spams. Thank you.--Eukesh 21:17, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I thought you edited recently... am I getting hallucinations? Anyway, don't forget to delete ks:Wikipedia:!Dead-end pages, ks:Wikipedia:!Long articles, ks:Wikipedia:!Most wanted articles, ks:Wikipedia:!Orphaned articles, ks:Wikipedia:!Popular articles, ks:Wikipedia:!Short articles, ks:Wikipedia:All pages by title and ks:Wikipedia:Broken/, remains of the old software which are fully protected but don't serve a purpose anymore. -- Prince Kassad 21:39, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Seems that the problem is solved (or being solved, at least). That being the case, this request itself is {{not done}}. I ask that any comments or requests concerning the actions needed be posted on the Kashmiri Wikipedia (possibly on Eukesh's talk page there), since this thread is going to be archived — plus the fact that we don't discuss actions pertaining to local projects on Meta pages. Redux 12:45, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm reopening the request, it looks like he stopped cleaning up, with only about 15 pages (of 120) having been processed. -- Prince Kassad 21:07, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Maybe you are getting hallucinations :) Anyway, I do not proceed in a mechanized manner. I take my time to see whether the pages that are listed for deletion can be preserved or elongated rather than deleted. Besides, I am a volunteer and work when I have free time. If you are so eager to help, you are most welcome. However, please do not delete pages in Indic and Nastaleeq scripts without much knowledge. As you might notice from the discussions present in this wikipedia, the wikipedia was "abandoned" because of tensions arising due to script and stuffs. On a different note, I think you can help this wikipedia more by filing a request at bugzilla to create a two script solution as is present in Kazakh wikipedia. Thank you.--Eukesh 15:19, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

We cannot grant temporary adminship if local admins are active and responding to requests. Redux 01:30, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Pretty sad, considering that if a sysop is there but does not have enough time to clean up, it's absolutely impossible to clean up the wiki in question, and people can do whatever they want there. -- Prince Kassad 16:26, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
If the local sysop would acknowledge that he doesn't have the time to handle an emergencial workload by himself, I could grant temporary adminship. If that would be best for the project. Would Eukesh be willing to state that much? He may consider that he can handle the work alone, as well as that the work isn't emergencial enough for a temp sysop to be appointed to help him handle it faster. PK, you should also consider the possibility of gaining consensus locally to be made a permanent sysop on the project. After all, one of the key aspects of temporary adminship is that it will last only for as long as it is absolutely necessary, and it will expire when no emergency or considerable backlog can be detected. And that means that temporary adminship is not the best solution if the project does have a need for a present admin, to handle day-to-day issues. Regards, Redux 21:21, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Permanent sysopship is only possible if a community exists, which is not the case for this Wiki. -- Prince Kassad 16:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

The anon is probably one of the beneficiaries. But since we are in November, I actually meant December 28, 2007. Sorry, I probably added up both, since I was granting the two requests in a row. Redux 18:32, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
It was me :) Now you've got prove, sorry. --OosWesThoesBes 18:32, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Miscellaneous requests

ml:wikt:User:Test1 and ml:wikt:User:Test2

I am a sysop with ml.wikt. Please delete users Test 1 and Test 2 in Malayalam Wiktionary. I have created those usernames for testing some Mediawiki translations in ml.wikt. I no longer need those accounts. Thanks! --Jacob 22:00, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Not done Users cannot be deleted. I suggest you leave them be. :) --filip 22:06, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
