Instructions[edit]

Before posting here[edit]

Please list the specific projects that you need to be renamed in under your request, unless you are requesting a global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified at least one month before usurpation.

Note: Please do not process this rename as the user Tsumiki logged in after the notification but didn't left a response. I'm contacting them via email again to confirm whether they want to keep the account or not. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 04:44, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Heb the best[edit]

{{notdone}} That user made at least one valid edit, and Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:17, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
Question: What differs between my case and, say, this one? Heb the best (talk) 17:39, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
Reopen. I have reopened this request, as I would like further discussion on the matter. The closer (Martin Urbanec) specifically wrote "more experienced global renamers should feel free to override me" in his edit summary.
The Global rename policy is oddly vague about usurpation: There will be some requirement for usurpation of local-only accounts, and possibly global accounts, without mentioning what these requirements are, only stating that decisions currently are dealt with by stewards on a case by case basis. Looking through all rename requests this year, I find several cases [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] (up to 6 edits) where a usurpation were granted, despite the usurped user have made edits, that are still live as of this day. This list is longer [8] [9] if we include talk page edits and good-faiths edits that are not live anymore. On the other hand, there were cases [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] where usurpation were denied, but none of them had fewer than 10 edits, much more than in my case. In one of them [11] there were even a discussion of the usurpation rules, with 1997kB saying I think 15 edits isn't big deal, also target last edited in 2006, so there's very little chance they'll be back, but another user (Stanglavine) disagreed.
Since there really is no concrete policy about usurpation, I find it fair that my case are treated in the same way as similar cases. Heb the best (talk) 14:52, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Also note that the single edit by Hebs on 8 February 2007 were undone by an IP user on 26 November 2007. It was later, on 17 December 2007, redone by another IP user, and then undone again on 7 April 2008 by a third IP user. So in the end, the edit is not even live and has not been for over 10 years. Heb the best (talk) 16:48, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Note: There's another issue is that Hebs is too similar to Heb who's active over English Wikipedia. So IMO this would make things confusing over enwiki. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 03:42, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I would have taken that name, if it wasn't already taken. I thought that user retired two years ago, based on the dawiki contributions, so thought the resemblance wasn't a problem. Didn't really look at enwiki. I have thought about it, and would instead go for "Hebber". Heb the best (talk) 02:48, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
