In this project, we'll be extracting academic citations from the history of Wikipedia and observing their growing usage over time.
Methods[edit]
To identify and disambiguate scholarly works, we'll look for structured identifiers in wiki content. See mwcites for specifics.[1]

- International Standard Book Number (isbn)
- ArXiv Identifier (arxiv)

Summary analysis[edit]
We'll focus on the Dutch and English Wikipedia, but the same descriptive data can be generated for any other wiki using mvcites. A pre-processed dataset for scholarly citations in English Wikipedia is available.[2]
