Research question number four[edit]

This is probably leftover from refactoring of the questions. Superm401 | Talk 23:14, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I removed that discussion since it was re-hashing things that were already covered in Research Questions and the MediaWiki.org docs. --Halfak (WMF) (talk) 23:29, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Registered-only features[edit]

I don't really agree with "If users find the listed benefits compelling as a reason to register an account, they should be more likely to take advantage of such features shortly after registering." They may find it compelling when first presented, but simply not be able to find it (or not think to look). Superm401 | Talk 23:14, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. If it is so hard to find the preferences that it completely wipes out any positive effect, then we certainly wouldn't see a measurable difference. However, if the bad UX only cuts the rate at which new users make it to the preferences page in half, then we still might see a measurable increase. If only we could instrument the urge to configure one's preferences. --Halfak (WMF) (talk) 23:36, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As a reminder, Special:Preferences is linked by MediaWiki:Welcomecreation-msg upon registration, on the wikis where it's not disabled by the recent extensions. --Nemo 06:22, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
