Greetings from the future[edit]

Dr. Morgan, Dr. Halfaker, this draft re-design looks quite good. Any reason you have not launched it yet?

Also, I noticed this draft in the context of examining MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition. I actually hadn't realized that the Teahouse gadget was ported to Meta, and wrote a new, more modern thing for Ask a question. You can try it by enabling the "Wikimedia Resource Center – specialized editing interface" gadget in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. Would you like to use this for the research portal instead? This way, I could de-activate the teahouse gadget on Meta, avoiding the loading of unnecessary code. Harej (WMF), regretfully, I didn't get enough buy-in when I put this together and ended up moving on to other things. I'm still interested in replacing R:I with something like this. We ought to have a bot populate the recent projects, I think. That'll be the hardest part of implementing this.

Re. the gadget, I have no strong opinions. Generally, I want to move to a platform where we can use Flow, but in the meantime, these discussion gadgets are nice to have. --Halfak (WMF) (talk) 15:17, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
