Seminar on Punjabi Wikipedia at Kalanwali, Sirsa

An interactive presentation on Introduction to Punjabi Wikipedia and its literary importance and role of writers, teachers and journalists as contributor and user, was organized on April 25, 2026. This event was organised during monthly meeting of Punjabi Sahit Sabha, a community of readers and writers of Punjabi literature at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Public Library Kalanwali, District Sirsa, State Haryana (India). This event come in action collaboration between Punjabi Sahit Sabha Kalanwali, District Sirsa, Haryana and Punjabi Wikimedians user group.

Objective

The sole objective was to spread awareness especially among the readers and writers about Wikipedia as a reliable source of information, in which they can contribute in different ways. It was also intended to encourage volunteer participation in editing Wikipedia.

Follow up (2nd Phase)

Monthly meeting of Punjabi Sahit Sabha Kalanwali, decision taken to organize literary activities in the area.

The monthly meeting of Punjabi Sahit Sabha Kalanwali was held on May 31, 2026 at the residence of senior journalist Bhupinder Panniwalia ji in village Panniwala Ruldu. The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Comrade Bittu Malikpura. Bhupinder Panniwalia, Bittu Malikpura, Surinderpal Singh, Harjit Singh, Kulwinder Singh Dadu and Mulkh Singh were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, many important decisions were taken regarding the upcoming activities of the Sabha. It was unanimously decided that a story court will be organized this month, in which storytellers of the area will present their works.

Apart from this, it was also decided to organize a special workshop for Punjabi teachers to increase awareness about the spellings and correct writing of the Gurmukhi fonts.

A plan was also drawn up to collect the selected works of the poets associated with the Sabha and publish a joint poetry collection.

To bring the digital side up of the language to the readers and literature lovers, Punjabi Wikipedia volunteer Mulkh Singh discussed Wikimedia projects in detail with the present members. During this, a plan to reach out to home libraries, prepare their list and develop them digitally and take access to copyright free text was also discussed.

It was also considered to organize literary competitions, poetry readings and linguistic activities for school and college students after the summer vacations, so that the younger generation can be more closely connected with Punjabi language and literature.

At the end of the meeting, a resolution was taken to further strengthen joint efforts for the promotion of Punjabi language, literature and culture.
