Chronological updates

  • 03/2024 WMDE publishes a Call for Software Contributions, open to all Wikimedia affiliates. Application deadline is April 21th, 23:59 (GMT+1) (check local time).
  • 11/2023 WMDE meets with community of Igbo Wikidata User Group and Wiki Mentor Afrika at Wiki Indaba.
  • 10/2023 WMDE and WMID dissolved the partnership. Read the joint statement by WMID and WMDE on the Activities page. Together with a freelance software team as part of the joint software collaboration, WMDE continues supporting their work on lexicographical data in Wikidata.
  • 09/11 The Igbo Usergroup (IGUG) team attended the wiki conference Francophone 23 where they introduced a lot of the francophone communities to Wiki Mentor Africa.
  • 08/2023 Lightning talk at Wikimania 2023.
  • 08/2023 WMDE visited WMID in Jakarta.
  • 06/2023 WMDE Wikimania submission was accepted.
  • 05-12/2023 The second cycle for Wiki Mentor Africa has been confirmed, as well as a new funding agreement.
  • 04/2023 WMID has outlined a new roadmap with WMDE.
  • 03/2023 Arcadia has confirmed that the project will receive a 6-month non-cost extension. The project will now continue until December 2024.
  • 03/2023 Planning for a trip to Indonesia, sometime after Wikimania, is taking place.
  • 2023 The User Group has entered talks for new funding agreements and the second cycle of Wiki Mentor Africa.

2022

  • 12/2022 Several review formats for an upcoming process description for future projects have taken place, with both partners giving feedback on orientation sessions and the partnership in general.
  • 12/2022 Wikimedia Indonesia finished their user research and built the profile of Indonesian Wikidata users. The reports can be accessed here.
  • 01/12/2022 The funding agreement for the second installment was signed with Wikimedia Indonesia.
  • 27/10/2022 Wikimedia Indonesia celebrating the 10th birthday of Wikidata by holding an introduction session related to Wikidata Lexeme. The presentation can be accessed here and recording of the presentation session can be accessed here
  • 10/2022 The funding agreement was signed with the Igbo Wikimedians User Group.
  • 5-8/09/2022 Wikimedia Indonesia visited Berlin for a few days to joined us in a workshop.
  • 30/08/2022 Wikimedia Indonesia started their user research.
  • 12/08/2022 The project was presented during a Wikimania session (Link).
  • 06-10/2022 The new staff has been onboarding.
  • 06/2022 WMID has hired a Product Manager, an UX Designer, a Project Support and Community Staff.
  • 06/2022 We have submitted a presentation for Wikimania.
  • 06/2022 We are continuing working on Wiki Mentor Africa with Igbo Wikimedians User Group.
  • 06/2022 We submitted the first yearly report to Arcadia.
  • 06/2022 The funding agreement has been signed with WMID and hiring has begun for WMID, including a product manager.
  • 04/2022 We have had further internal discussions with WMDE about the future of the project and prospective scenarios.
  • 10-13/03/2022 The potential movement partners had the chance to meet the product managers and learn more about Lexicographical Data.
  • 03/2022: We consulted with WMF members who previously worked with the possible partners and they shared their perspectives and experiences on working with these groups.
  • 20-25/01/2022: We met with the potential movement partners to discuss guidelines and answer some early questions.
  • 13/01/2022: We have handed in a submission at the WikiMeet India 2022 to discuss the project with communities further.
  • 11/01/2022: We are preparing updates for the movement on various challenges on this project and are having first talks with groups and people who are interested in being a part of this partnership.
  • 03/01/2022: The internal consultations at WMDE were completed. We now have a better understanding of what is important to us in this future collaboration and what kind of values and visions we are following in this project.

2021

  • 30/10/2021: We have talked to the Wikidata community at the WikidataCon to ensure we hear their feedback on this collaboration. The documentation is uploaded on the Resource section of this project page.
  • 28/10/2021: Project Page goes live on Meta: Software Collaboration for Wikidata.
  • 12/10/2021: The submission for WikidataCon to discuss the upcoming partnership with the community has been accepted.
  • 15/09/2021: Consultation with members of the movement has started.
