Open-source Ticket Request System

For prospective volunteers

Volunteering for OTRS

The OTRS team always welcomes new volunteers to help with answering tickets. Nonetheless, to ensure the quality of service and given the confidential nature of the work, there is a selective application procedure.

The OTRS administrators are a group of highly-trusted and experienced volunteers who assess your application to join the OTRS team. When assessing an application, they familiarize themselves with your work on the Wikimedia projects to ensure that you are suitable as an addition to the OTRS team. It therefore takes some time before you receive a response regarding your application.

How do I volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering, please read OTRS/Recruiting for information about what the job entails. Feel free to join #wikimedia-otrsconnect to ask any questions that you might have with regard to Wikimedia OTRS. Before applying, please ensure that you are:

Please review the list of queues prior to submitting your application, and apply for all of those queues where you think you'd be able to help.

  • The OTRS team is especially interested in users who are entrusted with any special tools on local projects (sysop, bureaucrat, checkuser, etc.), though this is not an absolute requirement.
  • Please also add links to help desk posts, talk pages, or other discussions you think are relevant.
  • Language skills – other than English – are also highly appreciated. Additional help in language queues is highly needed and we'd like to know if you are able to help in any other language.
  • If you already have access to OTRS, and you'd like to get access to additional queues, you typically don't need to apply here. Ask on otrswiki:Administrator requests.

(Sorry for my English, I'm a French) I've started to edit Wikipedia on 2013. I'm a volunteer for the automatic welcome message on the new user discussion pages and I interact with new users. I also participate to the recent changes patrol on the French wikipedia. I already did a OTRS procedure for some pictures. I want to help the French OTRS queues because I like answer questions about wikipedia and help new users. Don't hesitate if you want to ask me questions. Bastenbas (talk) 20:35, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Ad crumenam[edit]

I'd like to help out on OTRS because I have experience in dealing with various issues (mostly related to article-editing and vandalism reversion). I am also knowledgeable about Creative Commons file licenses (though not as much as I am about normal editing), and proficient in English and German, aside from Spanish, my native tongue. Also worth mentioning is the fact that I have access to the rollback and patrol flags in the Spanish Wikipedia, in case I would ever need them for any OTRS-related duties, and I am a member of Wikimedia Spain too. -- Ad crumenam (talk) 20:58, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

I'd like to help out on OTRS; I was a OTRS Volunteer for 5 years but I have been really busy with my work until recently, now I would really like to be again on OTRS. Talking more about myself: I'm already a sysop and checkuser on it.wiki. --Ask21 (talk) 10:08, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

I'd like to help out on OTRS because I have a previous knowledge copyvio/imagevio tasks for Czech Wikipedia and now I have more time again so I can help as there are not so many volunteers for Czech language. I am also happy to help those, who prefer e-mail communication. I am a long term experience Wikipedia/Commons contributor since 2005. Juandev (talk) 19:28, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Granting an access to sensitive information to him is hazardous and potentially legally dangerous.

When I originally applied back in 2015, I asked for access to info-pl, info-en and permissions. While I received no comments whatsoever, I was granted access only to the first two. It's 2017 now and the backlog in permissions seems to be a problem, especially permissions-pl, where there is only two active operators as far as I can tell. I handle permissions-related messages anyway from time to time (some of them end up in info queues), but being able to monitor them from within the ticket system would be way easier.
