For sysop requests on the wikis please check Requests for permissions

Requests for bot status is a page to ask for a bot flag for your bot on any Wikimedia project. Completed requests are archived

Stewards grant bot status for accounts, but please remember - your bot must first be accepted by the local community. Please be sure to check the following bot policies before submitting a bot request:

Wikipedia: de el en fi fr ja lb lt nds nl pl ro simple zh he;
Wikiquote: en

Please be sure you'll include all of the following info in your request:

  • The bot owner,
  • The bot account,
  • The Wiki project on which you ask for bot status,
  • A link to the local announcement page;

If anything will be missing from your request, you will be asked by a steward to give more information. Also, please don't skip the last point even if there's no community on the project, or there's no announcement page - if that's the case, just be bold and make one!

Current requests

Please add new requests on top, below this message.

Flacus, your bot must get approval on w:fi:Keskustelu Wikipediasta:Botit concerning finnish Wikipedia, before you request for bot status. Just go to bottom of that page and state there precisely what your bot will do. Full instructions are on page w:fi:Wikipedia:Botit. Thanks, your Link-Checker is great. –Hartz 12:46, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

where are you requests on the diverse wikis? since i have seen no clear request (did i miss it?) to the dutch community, and you started running the bot already, it was blocked this morning. i myself am currently checking with the dutch community if they approve. you should do the same with the other wikipedia's yourself imho and indicate the reqests you did here. oscar 18:01, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

on a lot of wikis i have Botflags already. But some are missing. So i just postet al my languages i want to use here. In the nl i am aktive since a August 2005. I think i had bot-flag so i was a little bit surprised. But everybody can see at the moment i have no in nl-wiki. I have in every Wiki on my Userpage nearly the same text and an Link to my german page. On my german page teh Interwiki-Link-Checker is well descriptet also in foreign languages. I am subscriber of the Bot-Software-mailing-list and and my Bot is always up to date. --Flacus 02:09, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
ok, but could you please provide us with links for your local announcements of the bots (other than your userpages of course)? thanks, oscar 14:40, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Please be sure you'll include all of the following info in your request:
  • The bot owner,
  • The bot account,
  • The Wiki project on which you ask for bot status,
  • A link to the local announcement page;
You have to make local announcements on all of these wikis, and if no one will oppose, you'll be granted bot status. Datrio 17:10, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Request for bot flag for ur:user:saki-bot, this bot is in testing phase.

Wisesabre 16:40, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Saki-bot is already a sysop, is the local community aware of this? Datrio 17:15, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

A clone of pl:Wikipedysta:Tawbot, used for category cleaning. Respects local bot policy proposal.

Request is at en:Wikipedia talk:Bots#Mairibot, and I've been running it for a week with no problems or objections --Mairi 18:24, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

On behalf of the Finnish Wiktionary community [1] and fi:wikt:User:Hartz I request a bot status for this fine specimen which categorizes words alphabetically. It's been running since September 17th and has made more than 5500 edits. Its big-brother fi:User:H-Bot already has a bot status in the Finnish Wikipedia. -Samulili 22:11, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

This is a simple replace.py bot, I admit it has only been on en:Wikipedia talk:Bots for 6 days, but I am pretty keen for it too be flagged, and by the time this is read it will probably be over 7 days anyway! It has been thouroughly tested without problem. thanks Bluemoose 13:02, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

OK, its been a week, the only compaint i've had is that i'm not running with a flag! Bluemoose 19:05, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

I'm requesting bot flag on :en WP (see request on :en). After ones week run, there were one problem with bot, but it was fixed. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 10:58, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Unsure if approval given yet. Asked for clarification at w:en:Wikipedia talk:Bots. Angela 10:43, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
I believe we're hanging fire until the bot's author tells us exactly what is going on - there's been some confusion understanding exactly what interwiki links the bot will be updating. Initially, we were led to believe that the bot would be updating five language's worth of interwiki links, but it transpires what the author intended was to have the bot updating all interwiki links on five Wikipedias. At the English Wikipedia, we have a policy whereby interwiki link bot's owners must understand the affected languages, so if the latter ends up being the objective here, then we may have a problem. Rob Church Talk 03:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

The bot is using standard python wikipedia interwiki.py script, so I feel that this is not a problem. As for misunderstandig: I'm using this bot on 4 (5 if :en would be approved) WP to change IW of all WP. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 20:10, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

You say it's updating the interwiki links for all languages? That conflicts with en-wiki's requirement that you understand the languages, I do believe. Might be best to hang fire a bit longer and see what people think back on en-wiki. Rob Church Talk 03:20, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

n:pt:User:Category date generator script

  • Please give "user" Category date generator script bot status at ptwikinews for 48 hours.
    This account will be used to create date categories for the Portuguese edition of Wikinews. The PHP script will only generate a form with the category name and category content, wich will be then saved by a editor (a.k.a me).
    The bot request was announced at the local "village pump". -- Get_It (@ptwikinews) 01:59, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Done. Please notify us when you'll be done. Datrio 21:10, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Wolfbot has bot status on top level wikisource.[2] But, user accounts were not transferred to the language subdomains; we had to re-create them. Can you please bot tag the en.wikisource Wolfbot? Thanks.

Because of a new created namespace called 'Portal:' I request the bot-flag for PortalBot to change thousands of links from the old destination to the new place. After that action I would use the bot for helping to keep the german Wikipedia in a proper status. --Augiasstallputzer 11:08, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Please add a link to the local request/announcement page. Datrio 21:17, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

That page is http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bots
--Augiasstallputzer 19:55, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Okay, fine - but I don't see your request/announcement there. Please inform the local community that you plan to run such a bot. Datrio 20:04, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Have a look at de:Wikipedia:Bots#PortalBot ([3]). – And Augiasstallputzer is not only planning to run the bot, he's already running it. In the last four days, there were more then 3000 edits. A bot flag would be very helpful. --kh80 •?!• 23:33, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
Okay, done. Don't forget that a sysop _can_ block a bot if he makes more than one edit per, let's say, 20 seconds, without approval or without a flag. Datrio 06:51, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

  • I would like to have a botflag for pt:User:RobotJcb on PT.wikipedia. I left a note in their Village Pump. Jcb 10:40, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
I don't know the policies on other wikipedias, but at pt: bots need community approval. This bot has not been approved yet (in fact, it just got presented minutes ago). Nuno Tavares 10:44, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
This looks like now there is. Jcb 15:46, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
Actually, that doesn't mean anything, but that your bot has been recognized as one, but still not accepted to run with a botflag (marcados versus não marcados). Please hang on, Jcb. What's the rush, anyway? retoric question. Nuno Tavares 20:47, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
What is your problem with my robot? Last night YOU blocked my robot without even trying to contact me in advance and without even trying to contact me afterwards. The summary of the block was: "unintroduced robot". Although the robot has been turned off you did not answer to my request to unblock my IP. So at the moment my IP is still blocked at PT without any reason. From somewhere else I introduced the robot in your village pump. It's normal to do that together with the bot flag request on meta. After that YOU personally 'disapproved' my robot. At other Wikipedias the community may decide thing like that, but at PT it seems that you decide it on your own. And then, the only reason you gave for your disapproval: "Disapprove. Deliver warnfiles at WP:CR. We have already an NL bot running with the flag set." How can that possibly be a reason? I am and IA.wikipedia user (and moderator) as well. If I introduce myself as an IA user with a robot it would be OK??? Like a steward said today in your village pump, that's completely nonsense. Jcb 22:11, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
Nonsense or not, and unlike what you suggest in this last message that I decide this kind of things on my own (I just stated my opinion there), there are procedures to be followed; otherwise the stewards here wouldn't need a discussion page. Anyway, this discussion shall flow on his own page, not here. I wonder why don't you discuss this at that page. BTW, your IP has been unblocked for days. To Stewards: please suspend this sole request until pt:community approves, there are policies being discussed there and Jcb is aware of that, unlike what he's trying to suggest here. Please read the suggested page for on-going development. Nuno Tavares 05:57, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Same bot as he:משתמש:Costello-bot. Since Costello doesn't have the time to run the bot, I also run a version. Thanks!

No announcement found, bot has not made edits. Request refused for now. - Andre Engels 22:24, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

I would like to request a bot flag for my bot on Wikisource NL. I'm currently a sysop on Wikisource NL and highly active, so it would be great if my bot didn't fill up the recent changes.
