Status:    Done

The rangeblock this IP is a part of seems to be set to deny talk page access. Could this block be modified to allow legitimate editors to request ip block exemptions? Thank you. w:User:Hersfold editing as Hersfold non-admin 01:27, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Global blocks can't be disabled at the local level anyways, so what good would that do? To be globally IP block exempt, a user would need to add a request to SRGP (which can be done from a gblocked IP iirc) Ajraddatz (Talk) 02:06, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Actually they can. See Special:GlobalBlockWhitelist (this exists on every project affected by global blocks). I have modified the block to anon-only. Please use the whitelist above if you wish to remove the block on enwiki. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 11:23, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I assume you only modified the block of, but are you aware of the fact that Bastique g-blocked many more ranges? Trijnstel 18:31, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Please note that some of Bastique's actions were official actions and should not be reversed. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 11:23, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
This seems resolved so I'm closing as done. Users affected by this should follow the instructions in the block message. —Marco Aurelio (Nihil Prius Fide) 11:24, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Global unlock for Tyciol

Status:    Not done

Reasons: The lock was inappropriate and should be rescinded. Policies and guidelines did not visibly support it. One of the current Stewards, User:Laaknor who dealt with the case on July 21 when someone tried to make it happen via this page, rejected it.

I do not know if he was aware of this rejection by a fellow Steward at the time, but User:Kylu came 18 days after it was not done and instated the lock.

I am in agreement with Laaknor's original assessment that I am not a vandal. I remain confused now as to what policy and purpose attributed to locks made locking my account an acceptable action.

I draw attention to the current disclaimer that I read prior to making this post:

This is not the place for asking for locks based on your opinion that someone is disruptive. Global locks are used exclusively against vandalism and spam, not because content disputes, not because you think that someone deserves to be globally blocked. In such cases, you should ask for local blocks at appropriate places.

I initially brought this up on #Wikimedia-Stewards, but did not receive any support from those active while trying to solve it casually. New steward User:PeterSymonds conveyed to me that he is in support of the lock, as did User:Thogo (was informed by User:Trijnstel that he is sort of active but is an ombudsman) though neither informed me of the reasons for their stance.

This request, having been delayed over a year, is not 'urgent', but it seems important. If policy supports the continued existence of the lock, can it be communicated why the paragraph I quoted, the one I read defining what a just lock is, is wrong? Are there new policies from Talk:Global_locks which are accepted but not reflected in this requests page? Was Laak wrong to object in July? Was Kylu right to lock in August? I would like to know how policy at the various times, the thens and now, apply to these decisions.

I would also like to remind people, according to global locks:

Global IP blocks do not apply on Meta.

I hope this stays in effect. I don't consider this use of editing to be vandalism.

I will remain transparent here, this is not the first movement to globally unlock the acount. The first was in 2010, initiated by Kylu, which lestaty closed as 'not done'. Kylu stepped down from Stewardship so does not appear to be active on Meta to interact with now.

Based on the precident that 'not done' does not indicate a final closure on the issue (or Laak's choice would have stood), I am bringing it up again in hopes that we can review the purposes of the 'lock' function and whether or not there is evidence that it should be used here. -- 00:14, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

  • Allow me to put it to you simply: "in rare cases until global blocking is extended to named accounts, users who would be eligible for a global block are locked in this way as well"[2]. Your account is subject to a global lock because we are technically unable to apply a global block to it. — Coren (talk) / (en-wiki) 20:17, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
X mark.svg Not done I don't see any *substantial* reason to remove the lock I see just some more drama. --Vituzzu 20:44, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Comment Non-steward comment: Both Teles2 and Teles3 are locked. I don't think that any of them are a sock of Masarap na Baboy. The first sock was created on and it is probably the same vandal that vandalized my page on that project hours ago. He saw my request right above and created an account on If you check it, you will find a proxy. That is my guess.” Teles (T @ L C S) 09:34, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Comment Non-steward comment: I think that Teles2 and Teles3 are two different persons. Teles3 is Masarap na Baboy (or more specifically Dragon2016). He vandalized my talk page in, the same way he vandalized your talkpage there. It will be much appreciated if we can stop this longterm vandal once and for all since for the past months, the vandal creates user accounts and attack, and among others. -WayKurat 09:59, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
