Requests for global (un)block

Global unblock for 2a01:7c8:aaae:258::/64

Status:    Not done

The IPv6 range my VPS was assigned (december 2012) had never been used before me, but it is blocked from editing for "Open proxy: webhosting" (and the block began september 2012). As I would like to encrypt my internet traffic, I usually route it though a (authenticated) proxy at my VPS. I fully understand wikipedia doesn't like Open proxies, but I wonder why a closed proxy like mine should be blocked from editing. Surely wikipedia supports our privacy, and doesn't want us to disclose all wikipedia links we click on while browsing to our ISP/etc? -- Joosteto (talk) 15:47, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

As it is impossible to exempt this particular /64 subrange, you should apply for IP Global block exemption at Steward requests/Global permissions. Ruslik (talk) 12:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Global unblock for 91.34.28.9

Status:    Not done

I make a request to be unblocked as soon as possible. I was blocked by User:DerHexer. I am absolutely unaware of any "long-term abuse" which was given as a reason, without any further detail.

Furthermore, I would like to say that I am a long-time contributing registered user. Maybe I have once forgotten to log in while editing. I would not like to reveal my user name here, only on request and to an authorised user or administrator.

My block began on 18:59, 20 August 2013, and is to end on 18:59, 21 August 2013. But still, I feel the block was unjust. --91.34.28.9 10:00, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Could you please tell us your username first? Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:42, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

I am at a complete loss to understand why the biography edits have all been blocked. I registered with Wikipedia on 18 March 2010 and have not attempted any editing until a couple of weeks ago. Now everytime I try to complete the edits I'm informed that the block started on 22 October 2012 and will continue until 22 October 2017 (if I'm still around that year when I'd be 79!) The biography had almost been completed and I was being advised by -xeno to eventually publish it under my name : i Christopher Morris (journalist) The reason for the block is said to be "Hosting on a redstation" but I haven't clue what that means? A considerable amount of time and research has been made preparing the biography so that it is 100 per cent accurate. So I would request please that this block is removed immediately for completion and eventual publication of the biography.

Please see en:WP:IPEC for information about getting an IP block exemption. --MF-W 18:21, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
I have modified the block that effected a range of IP address for the internet provider to be a little more forgiving. It is now a soft block which means that you should be able to edit when logged in. [Note to stewards, there is little in the way of issues at meta with the IP range] — billinghurst sDrewth 05:41, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello this is Farsheedd. my account has been blocked by Vituzzu because of spam from open proxy. I note that I'm from Iran and here we have to use proxies to access Facebook, twitter, G Plus, and even sometimes, Wikipedia(Not Always). so it might be possible that I enter Wikipedia by a proxy server. our nation, Iran is censoring us from the open Internet, and now you are doing as well. please do something! The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.190.140.244 (talk • contribs) 08:34, 3 September 2013‎ (UTC)

I have converted the block on the IP range to a softblock. This means that you will still need to login into your Wikimedia account to edit, otherwise all should be okay. — billinghurst sDrewth 05:44, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Engaged in a cross-wiki and off-wiki (wikipediocracy) harassment campaign. Already blocked on en-wiki and Commons. Collusion in this campaign with an editor banned on en-wiki (Peter Damian). Also editing on meta with the same single purpose. --Someone not using his real name (talk) 02:12, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

The IP is blocked on both projects where they have been deemed to be engaged in "harassment" by local administrators. There is no activity on other projects except Meta and therefore a global block is not required. In addition I would note that this issue is clearly complex and is not best handled by "preventative" blocking. QuiteUnusual (talk) 07:54, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Listing on-wiki diffs is not harassment. 50.174.76.70 14:24, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
This is not the place for this discussion - if you wish to have local blocks removed you need to discuss those with local administrators. QuiteUnusual (talk) 14:25, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
His activity on Meta is of exactly the same nature as what got him blocked on the other two projects. Someone not using his real name (talk) 23:05, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

This is the IPv6 address of the Polish Toolserver (http://tools.wikimedia.pl/). Please allow logged-in editing from this range. Currently most of the bots running at pl.wp are killed, and I am unable to change local status via Special:GlobalBlockStatus there (I only get an error). --Matma Rex (talk) 09:30, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia can't block the whole HUGE prefix for shortsighted convenience. Maybe there are bad guys playing things mischievous. But I didn't do anything wrong. Are all guys from VPS host provider suspicious? This is IP Geographical Discrimination, man! LOL

I am using my OWN permission-restricted proxy (2604:180::6d98:168f). For an editor in China, proxy is the only way to reach Wikipedia stably, direct connections are often randomly blocked. The preceding unsigned comment was added by JohnBull (talk • contribs) .

You will likely receive an IP block exemption (request one here), but since webhosts act as proxies in general (especially VPS's), and it's been determined that the abuse potential is too high, webhosts are blocked in general. This particular range has been used by long-term abusers recently (we cannot, at this time, make exemptions for single addresses or subranges of a rangeblock, but it might also be possible to downgrade the block to anonymous users only).--Jasper Deng (talk) 05:49, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

User is blocked on 6 projects for sockpuppetry and is now creating articles which just not seem to be bot articles (nlwiki). There's no content at all in them and we keep nominating these for deletion. I propose a global lock for this user, because of this and the sockpuppetry taken into account. Best regards, — TBloemink talk 08:14, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

User has a high contribution count and is not blocked at all wikis and in some instances has 000s of edits and not blocked. This can be managed at local wikis. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:16, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

This guy has uploaded child porn to both Wikipedia and commons. We certainly don't want people like that in the foundation. One person on En-Wiki also requested a global site ban - and I think a global lock would be good to enforce the ban (where the En-wiki discussion says "I had requested a global siteban..."). --68.255.166.251 19:22, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

This is not a current issue. It is a three year old issue which seems to have been solved three years ago with no actions from the user since then. Therefore a lock is not really appropriate. Then again, a steward may see it differently but I doubt it will result in a lock. John F. Lewis (talk) 19:31, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
If stewards can locally lock accounts, maybe they could do so on en-wiki and commons? 68.255.166.251 19:41, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Locks are global and prevent users logging in. What has been done to that accounts (block) is pretty much all that can be done locally. John F. Lewis (talk) 19:43, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
stewards please block this guy is globally useless apart from criminal --189.33.136.217 19:50, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
If that account is useless, won't locking them, be useless too? John F. Lewis (talk) 19:52, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
That will make that account even less useful, and make the operator regret his actions. 68.255.166.251 19:56, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
since when was useless? yeah of course, but I made some good contributions to both the main account both the puppets can hunt minhas.mais contributions he has made no contribution valid anywhere in the wikimedia foundation.I found your message confused because I do not speak English well --189.33.136.217 19:58, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
  • X mark.svg Not done. A global ban requires an RfC, which is what you are in effect proposing. Global locks are not used for accounts unless they are clearly vandalism or spam only accounts which does not apply here. In any case with no activity for 3 years the account does not require locking to prevent abuse. QuiteUnusual (talk) 21:58, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
