Globally unblock my IP

Status:    Not done

I am very sorry for the cross-wiki vandalism I have done and I will promise not to do it again. 76.226.71.150 21:41, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

The block has expired. Ruslik (talk) 10:01, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Global block/unblock for 212.227.0.0/16

Status:    Done

The IP range has been blocked as an open proxy hosted at 1&1. Today the support team received a mail from 1&1 (Ticket:2013092610008984), saying that it isn't a open proxy but a NAT server from which all European (!) 1&1 employees connect to the internet. It is not used by the 1&1 customers. Thanks for unblocking, XenonX3 (talk) 17:22, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

If it is not used by customers then it should be unblocked. Ruslik (talk) 10:02, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Whichever it was, it was a range that was spamming us via spambots. I have modified the block to be a soft block, so that logged in accounts can edit. Can I recommend that you transfer the OTRS ticket to the stewards' queue seeing that it has been sent to the wrong support queue. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:42, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

I am unwilling to remove the range block (/18) completely, though I have converted it from a hard to a soft block. This will enable logged in users to edit. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:37, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

closed proxy

Status:    Not done

This IP is a closed proxy, not an open proxy. Closed proxies are allowed and open proxies are not. There's really not anything else to add.

It's still an anonymity service. You just have to pay the fee. If it's used to vandalize, it will be blocked. -- Tegel (Talk) 19:06, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
you again Tegel? can't say I'm surprised but last time I contacted real admins, your block was removed, so why do you insist in making your own rules? there's nothing about anonymity in the open proxy ban rule, it's either open or closed, in this case it's closed, that's all there is to it. but if you insist I'll contact the real admins, we'll see how they react to you trying to make your own rules
This is not my block, and I'm both a real admin here and a Steward. If someone vandalize the IP-address will be blocked. It doesn't matter what type of IP-address it is. -- Tegel (Talk) 19:20, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
The only block I can see which would affect 5.254.151.80 (the IP posting here without signing) is a global block from me on 5.254.128.0/19 (expires on 11 November 2013 at 01:25) for crosswiki spam. But thanks for also informing us that this is a proxy. --MF-W 19:21, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
spam? are you sure? you mean advertisement spam? if so please link me to the spam, I'll report it and the spamer will be banned, our service does not tolerate spamers as they harm all of the other customers —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5.254.151.80 (talk) 19:56, 21 October 2013
Spam gets deleted, so there is not much to see. I have asked Anonine before and the reply that I got from their support was that they don't keep enough information to be able to block individual user. -- Tegel (Talk) 20:07, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
what does it being a proxy have to do with anything? it seems you're pretty slow and do not understand proxies are completely allowed if closed, I don't want to repeat this one thousand times... you can't block thousands users because of one spamer, can you? show me evidence of the spam, I'll contact the internal customer support, explain them the situation and ask them to do something about it, but first show me the link to the spam or at least the deletion logs —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 5.254.151.80 (talk)

The account still isn't locked! INeverCry 00:36, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
It's locked and oversighted. -- Tegel (Talk) 00:39, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
This seems to prevent it from showing as locked on Commons and other wikis, and in the global acct log. Is there a benefit to this oversighting? If I was a sysop on another wiki, and I noticed this account right now, I'd take the time to block it, and maybe ask for a lock. I think it would be better if this showed up in the log and on all wikis as locked. INeverCry 00:54, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
If it should be visible in the local log what is the reason for hiding the name in this request? As it is now it's hidden from all logs as well, and no local admin will see it and need to think about blocking the account. Should it be hidden from public lists or not? -- Tegel (Talk) 01:10, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
The account is still visible in the user creation log at Commons right now. INeverCry 01:18, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

It's visible on the wikis where local action was taken before the global lock. So that need to be hidden locally. It's hidden on all other wikis there the account was created. -- Tegel (Talk) 01:27, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
So you can hide all the other log entries from here, but local oversighters have to address the Commons and Wikisource log entries? How much sense does that make? INeverCry 01:35, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Not much sense in that. But that is the limitation of the tool as of today. -- Tegel (Talk) 08:55, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Global unblock for Birdie

Status:    Not done

Hi, I'm Birdie, I'm editing on wp since 2006 in several languages (Birdie is my SUL on 95% of the wp) and I never had a problem of vandalism. I do most of my edits from the high school where I work but, since today, an "administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, oversighter and steward" had the brilliant idea to globally lock the IP (193.52.218.80) and, consequently me. I've no other way to connect to the internet than using the proxy. I've no idea why he locked the whole IP as the lock of the IP was already working fine. So, please unlock the proxy and just lock the edition of unregistered users. Please answer on the french wp which is my main one. Birdie (talk) 12:24, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Finally, when i edit another wikis, i have not blocked for a long time (seriously!) for my good-faith edits there (never vandalizing anything). Because,i had to use this account to edit Wikipedia again. For this time,i had to unlock this account, and i want to get my old account back because my edits in another wiki (for good edits). If you do it,Please unblock me on Wikipedia,Wikimedia Commons and Wikitionary. Now i have good grammar for English right now.--SuperMarioBros99thx (talk) 10:41, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Additionally, it's not a good idea to admit to editing when you've been globally locked. Σ (talk) 22:33, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Well, there is a difference between admitting to have edited constructively and admitting to have continued editing in the same unconstructive way for which one got globally locked. Since the latter is obviously not the case here[1], I do find the English Wikipedia's reaction to this request (block + CU endorsement) highly exaggerated, sorry.
