Global rollback for Darwinius

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I would really appreciate if I could have global roll-back, since as part of my duties as a Commons admin I restore files that should not have been deleted, as well as their use on the sister wikipedia projects. It generally implies a mere "undo" on the CommonsDelinker action on those projects, but it really is a drag in the projects I don't have roll-back (I currently only have it in the English and Portuguese speaking wikis). I've no plans for the moment to be part of the SWAT team (or whatever it is called), nor to combat vandalism at a global level, but this is something that would be really useful, considering that I often do this kind of actions dozens of times on a single occasion, and they are in the interest of everyone. Thanks, --- Darwin Ahoy! 20:54, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]

  • {{support}} Trusted user and no big deal at all, IMO Vogone (talk) 21:05, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • Weak Oppose. Out of the GR scope. Not interested in the SWAT/SWMT. Isn't there a way of making the bot rollback itself if the file is restored? I only found 45 reverts of the bot's edits in your luxo (outside of the wikis where you have rollback), which would in any case be too little, IMO. Savhñ 21:11, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • Oppose weak oppose per Savh.--Jasper Deng (talk) 21:50, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • Oppose Oppose I agree with Savh as well. And I undo edits of CommonsDelinker too, but I never use my rollback tool for that. Undo suffices the job. Trijnsteltalk 22:22, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]
    • Yes, undo suffices the job indeed (as it suffices for everyone else, I suppose, SWAT or not SWAT), but it's much more practical with GR. Those are uncontroversial reverts, and I *do* really feel a significant difference with rollback. I do not understand why the scope of this tool is limited to SWAT. Anyway, this is not especially in my interest, since I could simply skip those actions and leave them to the projects. And being a drag as it is, I will logically refrain to do such actions more often, since they are tiresome. If this is indeed out of scope of GR, then please close this request, but if that is the case indeed, I believe that scope should be reviewed and extended. If it is in the global interest, I don't see why it should be limited by mere bureaucracy.--- Darwin Ahoy! 06:25, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[]
      • It's SWMT, not SWAT Rollback is a counter-vandalism tool in general, so that's why GR is mainly limited to SWMT.--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:31, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • &  outside of scope and a bad idea: rollbacks remove all the edits a user makes, hence it would be conceivable that it could at some point rollback a valid edit by the bot that was the last edit on the page before the edit you wanted to revert, hence undo or a user script should be the preferred choice. Snowolf How can I help? 23:17, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • Oppose Weak oppose per Snowolf Vogone (talk) 23:27, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • Oppose Oppose Out of scope for GR, which is an anti-vandalism tool. I suppose we could remedy this with a Commons re-linker bot. -FASTILY (TALK) 01:57, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[]
  • Oppose Oppose As mentioned above, out of scope of GR usage. Riley Huntley (talk) 16:27, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[]
Comment Comment I would prefer as well if a bot could do that automatically. If that is possible, please ignore this request. I would need GR basically for that, anyway, since I've already been to SWMT and was not particularly enchanted by it. Thanks, and apologies for any trouble. --- Darwin Ahoy! 18:18, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[]

X mark.svg Not done Closing request per above. To answer your last question, doing such a stuff can easily be done by a bot. By the way, if the bot CommonsDelinker could do it, it would be better, because it's part of its functions. If you need any more help on the issue, feel free to contact me or any other steward. Global rollback for The Illusive Man

I am expanding into new English language Wikis, but as a man of few talents (a vandal fighter), it is impractical to reapply each time to several Wikis. It is inconsistent. I need this tool to be an effective Vandal reverter. That said, I understand things work differently outside en-Wiki, and welcome any constructive criticism you may have. It strikes me as obvious that a glaring issue here is my lack of experience in cross Wiki work, but I would ask the community to look to my fine and extended productive use of this very tool on my local project as an example that I could be trusted with the tool in smaller communities, where I feel that irresponsibility and/or misuse of this privilege could cause even more damage. Thank you.

Cheers! The Illusive Man (talk) 01:42, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[]

  • Global rollback is not merely given out on the assumption that you will use it well, but when you already demonstrated that you are able undo cross-wiki vandalism in a reasonable manner, without "damage". --MF-W 01:54, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[]

Requests for global editinterface permissions

Global editinterface for xqt

I am member of the pywikibot developer team (see commits here) and I would like to ask for global editinterface rights which is needed for i18n and l10n features of the bots framework. Some settings are outsourced from the bot's family files which holds site specific localisations and translations to MediaWiki system messages of local sites like MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage and some others regarding interwiki sorting order. This is to be extended: Interface localisation has been a running request for a few years, and I started some initial work on it. This will get local communities the ability to change bot's behavior on their own wishes without the necessidy of contacting developters to change the configuration. On the other hand these pages sometimes need some help especially on small sites. Therefore I need some additional rights, otherwise I have to keep old stuff in the bot scripts and keep track for any new settings which is a bit expensive. Thanks a lot.  @xqt 20:29, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[]

Global IP block exempt for Yannkervarec

Happy to do this, however, you don't have a global account, you can do this via preferences or Special:MergeAccount when you are logged in. Once you have done that then I can exempt your global account. If you do not wish to have a global account then we are going to need to get this done at individual wikis, and you would need to tell which wikis to which this should apply. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:54, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]
@Billinghurst: global blocks can only be lifted with global-ipblock-exempts; local ipblock-exempt won't work. Trijnsteltalk 22:18, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[]
