Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Ferien

Not ending before 4 October 2021 16:01 UTC

Hello everyone. I have been active in SWMT work, reverting in about 150 different wikis, mainly using SWViewer. I have experience with rollback on a few wikis: English Wikipedia, Simple English Wikipedia and Simple Wiktionary. I am requesting global rollback as it would make reverting cross-wiki vandalism easier. Thank you! --Ferien (talk) 16:01, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Global rollback for Renvoy

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 18 October 2021 13:40 UTC

Hello! I was here two months ago and was advised to return back later. Now I have 439 undo's in SWViewver (the real number, that includes other instruments is up to 500) in 151 wikis. Once again I ask for rights of global rollbacker to help me with countervandalism work.--Renvoy (talk) 13:40, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

  • BA candidate.svg Weak oppose I'm a little concerned when you do reverts like voy:fr:Special:Diff/493330 on fr.voy where rollback shouldn't be used. Usually, rollback shouldn't be used on touting, unless you're well known by the local community into knowing what's touting and what's not (in which most grollbackers who don't have much experience with voy often don't). But apart from that, I don't see any issues. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 09:22, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
Although that edit was handled by @Omondi: a few minutes later, I'd prefer a little more experience. Others may feel free to disagree with me. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 11:57, 14 October 2021 (UTC)
I understand your concerns but I explained my actions on talk page. Motivation for rollback was clear: user added unnecessary link. I admit that I should have been more cautious but, taking in account spammy name and machine translations, I decided to be bold that time. If this really concerns you, I promise, I will be more careful next time. Face-smile.svg--Renvoy (talk) 18:12, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Tol

Hello! I am currently working on a tool to upload pictures from the Library of Congress to Wikimedia Commons. The tool is in Google Colab, which runs on Google Cloud. The IP which I was using is globally blocked (1, 2), as many Google Cloud IPs are. I am requesting a global IP block exemption (instead of local on Commons) because I have also encountered this problem on English Wikipedia, and plan to make another script on Colab for Wikidata. The IP I was most recently using was 35.243.217.41. The error returned is:

Global IP block exempt for three users: Elpator, Akau Philip, Caleb Zachariah

Hi,

I am requesting global IP block exemption for three users who are participating in this event: Grants:Project/Rapid/Kambai Akau/A Hatch-Tyap-Wikipedia In-person Training Event/Project page.

They are from Nigeria. They created the accounts recently. Their IPs are blocked as "open proxies", but they are not intentionally using proxies or VPNs. That's just how their mobile provider works.

This is very similar to Steward requests/Global permissions/2021-08#Global IP block exempt for Zbobai.

Global permissions are needed because they plan to edit the Incubator, the English Wikipedia, Meta, and perhaps Wikidata.

It would be very nice to do it urgently so that they can participate in the event. Thanks, --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:53, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Winniemei

Hi, I use Wikipedia on Chrome on a school computer, my IP was recently blocked (I think 25 September) and I just recently wanted to get back to editing some Wikipedia articles again. As such I was wondering if I could get IP exemption. Also, for some reason, it appears that sometimes it will show me the IP block message but other times not (like right now), so I was wondering if anyone could diagnose any kind of problem that is causing this issue. Thanks! --Winniemei (talk) 19:02, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

@Winniemei Can you please provide an exact transcript of the block message, so we can assist you further? Time2wait.svg On hold until such transcript is provided. Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:57, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec Sure! It is not showing up right now, so I will put it here once it does. Winniemei (talk) 13:21, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
In that case, X mark.svg Not done until the issue happens again. It's possible the block you were facing was only a temporary one, and expired already. Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:39, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec That's what I was thinking too, but the error just popped up an hour ago again. Since it's not showing up right now, here's the transcripts (there were 2 distinct messages that appeared in different places): "Your IP address is in a range that has been blocked on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis. The block was made by Stanglavine (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is No open proxies: please read the FAQ should you be affected. Start of block: 13:42, 25 September 2021 Expiry of block: 13:42, 25 September 2024 Your current IP address is 136.228.207.173 and the blocked range is 136.228.200.0/21. Please include all above details in any queries you make." The other one is: "Your current IP address is 136.228.207.173 and the block ID is #482232. Please include this in any queries. Blocked users can edit their own user talk page, unless specifically disallowed from doing so (if you are not logged in as a registered user, this will be the talk page for your IP address). You can add (the unblock template, not posting since it would put it on this section) to your user talk page to request unblocking. If the block reason seems unrelated to you, it is possible you were affected by a software feature known as the autoblock. In that case, contact an administrator and they will do their best to remove the autoblock. Please note that, for technical reasons, removing the autoblock is not always possible. In such cases, you may need to wait 24 hours for the autoblock to expire. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have happened." Hope this helps! Winniemei (talk) 17:05, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the important details @Winniemei. I granted you a global IP block exemption. Unfortunately, while it is called a global exemption, it does not work at English Wikipedia: you need to ask for a local one too, via checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org. Thanks for your understanding. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:38, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
FTR, the grant is temporary (for 1 year), for now. Feel free to re-request it after that time if needed again. Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:39, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Doge24190

I am an editor of Chinese Wikipedia, mainly active in Chinese Wikipedia, but sometimes I need to add Wikidata items or add content to Wikipedia in other languages, and due to the Internet content censorship system in my area, I have to use proxy access Wikipedia, but the ip address of the proxy I often use is blocked, so I apply for the Global IP block exempt here. I will be grateful if you can grant me this permission--Doge24190 (talk) 16:26, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Yes check.svg Done, as you're already flagged at zhwiki, and have some experience there. Note that even with the global exemption, you may still face blocks, as the global exemption only affects global blocks, not local. Requests for global rename permissions

Global rename for Ulubatli Hasan

The following request is closed:
Not ending before 20 September 2021 02:43 UTC

Hello everybody. I'd like to request global rename permission to assist rename request and my main focus would be urwiki where I'm serving as a eliminator since september 2020 (voting). I've been assisting admins since I became eliminator on ur wiki and saving pages from vandalism. I'm requesting this flag because there is no global renamer on ur wiki that's why we often face issues and had directed users to request on meta for renaming. Thank you... Hasan (talk) 02:43, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Comment Comment What's an eliminator? Never heard of that... Then I'll choose on whether to support or not. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 13:08, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
(Edit: Per below clarification, I will Oppose Oppose this as the lack of sysop rights on a content project. The reason I'm opposing because of lack of sysop rights is because if they have all the rights of an admin, why aren't they an admin yet? SHB2000 (talk | contibs))
I suppose this is a group which allows for actions related to page deletion, but not other admin permissions. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
14:09, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
SHB2000 I think Eliminator gives every admin task except giving rights to users and renaming. I have deleted/undeleted, protected/unprotected, blocked/unblocked. It also allows user (who has this flag) to edit protected pages on admin level or protect pages on admin level. Hasan (talk) 15:38, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Giving rights to users is for bureaucrats (but some rights can be given by admins) and renaming users is only for global renamers. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 22:25, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
  • GA candidate.svg Weak support While this is not full adminship, I still think that the eliminator user group shows enough trust already – unlike a similar flag on ruwiki, this one allows for blocking as well, and it don't seem like there are too many important permissions missing from the admin toolset. ~~~~

  • Support Support: urwiki's eliminator user group basically is sysop except for the ability to change rights. With the three core tools of the set, blocking, protecting and deleting, a part of the group, I can treat the eliminator group as being equivalent to sysop, satisfying my main criterion for renamer. Additionally, the lack of renamers on urwiki would be further grounds to grant the requestor renamer rights. JavaHurricane 11:26, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Neutral. Eliminator is so called granted by sysops after a vote, which makes the user trusted in their local community. However, I do not see there is a need for another renamer from ur (if I recall correctly there is one already), is the load from ur that great? I am not saying there is a lack of trust but is there a sustained need. Do correct me if I am wrong and will be happy to support. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:33, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi Camouflaged Mirage, I didn't know that. Before making request I checked every admins global flag but I didn't find anyone who has global renamer user group. Could you please name him? Thanks Hasan (talk) 08:12, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
@Ulubatli Hasan Hello, what I mean is that there is already a renamer who claims they can understand ur per this list and is there any big backlogs coming from ur which the global queue system is unable to clear. I am all for someone who have unique language skills, but my thinking is that is there a need for one more user holding a flag if the load isn't that high in the first place? Just my thoughts. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:51, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage I'm thinking the same too. If Ulubatli Hasan is trusted enough with the tools of a sysop kit, then why are they not a sysop? It's something that has got me concerned that we're missing something here. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 09:39, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
SHB2000 I've not applied adminship because of previous two nominations (first and second) where users (mostly admins) have rejected both nominations saying that there is no need for more admins. (edit: I've never applied for adminship. Both nominations are of different users).. Hasan (talk) 13:34, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Support Support These eliminator rights contain the key admin tools: block, protect and delete. Quite a few global renamers rename users who may need a rename after a block. The other tools involved in the admin toolkit (abuse filter, user rights etc.) aren't as relevant to what a global renamer actually does. So whilst Ulubatli Hasan doesn't have "sysop" rights, and therefore may not fulfill some people's criteria, the experience in other sysop areas is not/not as relevant to the global renamer rights, so I am supporting. --Ferien (talk) 19:33, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Global rename for NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hello. Since both Vietnamese-speaking global renamers (Alphama and Trần Nguyễn Minh Huy) are having their Wikibreak and that vi:Wikipedia:Đổi tên người dùng is full of pending requests, I would like to request for global rename flag. I have fully read and understand the relevant policies. My languages are vi-n and en-3. Unnamed UserName me 06:29, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Question Question: For non sysop users, my usual question will be: What experiences you have with renaming, I seen you transfer some request from the local page to SRUC recently, but then it is quite recent. Do you have some long term experiences. In addition, if one of the vi renamers will to endorse you this will make the support easy. Thanks for volunteering anyway. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:16, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Since my account was created about 6 months ago, I can't say that I have long-term experiences. My very first edit at vi:WP:DTND was made on May 27. Normally, Alphama will reply as soon as possible, and being a native Vietnamese himself he doesn't need a clerk. However, recently, he was quite busy, and I voluntarily took care of those requests (I read the renaming policies a long time before that due to curiosity). Unnamed UserName me 15:30, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
I see. Alphama I had seen cleared those. I am just a little uneasy to grant such sensitive rights to a 5 month old account however, so Neutral Neutral but thank you for volunteering. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:16, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
  • Support Support Easy support. He is a very quick learner and versatile contributor of Vi Wikipedia, contributing in many areas such as templates, bot, AfD, discussions, many high quality articles and so on. 1. While the two renamers are on a wikibreak, wikibreak ≠ retired.
  2. The OP isn't a sysop on any WMF project.
But apart from that, I don't have any issues. --SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 09:32, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

The minimum requirement to run for eliminator in Vi Wikipedia is 6 months old account (1 year old for sysop). The issue here isn't about trust. Clearly, he got support (trust) from multiple local sysops and even a crat (ThiênĐế). Nguyentrongphu (talk) 09:06, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Global rename for NhacNy2412

In the same way as NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh indicated above, two global renamers who know Vietnamese are presently both very busy, Vietnamese Wikipedia requires volunteers to help with backlog requests as well as new requests. I've been on Wiki for over two years and have some familiarity with it. Although I'm not a sysop, I've been an eliminator of Vietnamese Wikipedia since January of this year and am quite aware of the rules and tools. I think this tool will not be too difficult for me. Thank you. ༒ Nhac Ny ༒ Talk to me ♥ 10:52, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

@Camouflaged Mirage Sorry for not understanding your question. Although I am rarely engaged to the page vi:Wikipedia:Đổi tên người dùng, I do keep a close eye on this site and how Alphama handled the requests. Furthermore, I remind members whose names are in violation on a frequent basis that they must alter their names or report the infraction to an administrator if the violation persists (of course I have read and understood the relevant regulations). ༒ Nhac Ny ༒ Talk to me ♥ 13:10, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Global rename for Vincent Vega

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 19 October 2021 15:21 UTC’'

Dear Wikimedians. I am Vincent Vega (former Chansey) from Trwiki. I am a local sysop and info-tr VRT volunteer. I am native Turkish speaker and en-3. According to list today we have 3 Turkish speaker (tr-N, tr-4 and tr-1) and I would like to assist them.

I am 7 y.o. in Wikimedia project, I contributed projects especially after 2016. When I create times from trwiki, I am trying to work crosswiki.

I am aware that lots of blockings happen in trwiki for inappropriate username selection, I would like to assist them and complete “block-rename-unblock” cycle myself, especially for Turkish spoken users. I believe I can handle and I have enough knowledge about Wikimedia renaming policy.

This is my second request, you can access first one (withdrawed) via this link. I am still standing behind my words.

Regards. Vincent Vega (talk) 15:21, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

I should have written more clearly. This is my fault SHB2000 sorry. There is no correlation between my x-wiki contributions and GR things. I meant "I usually contributing in my home wiki especially on sysop works, when I find free time I work x-wiki". I know for GR requests x-wiki works are valuable. I only mentioned that. Nothing more. Thanks for giving chance to explain. Vincent Vega (talk) 21:57, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Sorry Jeff but I hope you understand these are my regular questions to any non-admin who applies here. I don't think commons have a username change page so I cannot gauge your activity in rename - related areas without asking. Thanks for the willingness to help. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:42, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage: Thanks for asking. Renaming experience on WMF wikis is rather hard to get, due to the catch-22 of "you can't have the job if you have no experience, and you can't get experience if you don't have the job". However, I got enough to receive "The Working Man's Barnstar" for my "diligent efforts clerking the username change requests pages".[3] I also have opined on at least one username change for another person at SRUC[4] and at Talk:Steward requests/Username changes.[5] Also: my personal experience in using "Jeff G. en" to get the account of the former "Jeff G." here on Meta usurped to the current "Jeff G. (usurped)" in 2007[6][7][8], getting my account "JeffGent" on English Wikipedia renamed to "Jeff G."[9], 200+ account creations on English Wikipedia[10], and filing reports which led to the Foundation Global Ban of Hasive[11]; my Admin experience on Beta Commons, Wikimedia Outreach, the Test and Test2 Wikipedias, RationalWiki.org, TheTestWiki.org, Deletionpedia.org, and various Wikia Fandom wikis; my Bureaucrat experience on Test2 Wikipedia, TheTestWiki.org, Deletionpedia.org, and various Wikia Fandom wikis; and my non-wiki Network Admin, Private IP Registrar, Help Desk, Technician, and Consultant experience at Canon USA and other client and employer networks in the New York Metro Area have all helped me to prepare for such a precise, detail-oriented role. This is a global right, which will help out all projects, but the main interests of most of the Wikimedians I have helped have been on Commons and English Wikipedia. -- Jeff G. ツ (please ping or talk to me) 14:06, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

Abusefilter helper for Sargento de Hierro

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 16 October 2021 17:00 UTC

I am applying for this permission to help with matters related to private filters, specially in Spanish projects. I am active in the resolution of false positive reports of the filters on eswiki (es:Wikipedia:Filtro de ediciones/Portal/Reporte de falsos positivos), and I would like to also be able to solve the reports related to private filters, as well as analyze them to propose changes. I will also be able to help with filters on small wikis. I think that I have the necessary knowledge to have this permission, and I think that I am ready for it. Thank you.

Muchas gracias. Sgd Talk 17:00, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose you are really only active on your homewiki, this global permission is a bit excessive - perhaps you could ask eswiki to give you access to w:es:Wikipedia:Administradores_de_filtros for helping on that project? — xaosflux Talk 17:11, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose The candidate says they'd like to use the permission on Spanish projects, however, they currently don't have similar permissions at any of the Spanish-language projects. I think requesting an equivalent permission at eswiki should be the first step, before requesting the permission globally. Thank you for your understanding, and good luck. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:11, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
The abusefilter-helper group doesn’t exists locally, the similar right (abusefilter manager) alllow users to modify abuse filters, and I think that abusefilter-helper is a previous step because abusefilter-manager access requires more experience in abuse filter area. Sgd Talk 17:20, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
I should point out that (abusefilter manager) is barely granted on eswiki, only to filter syntax experts.MONUMENTA (talk) 17:32, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

CAPTCHA exempt for Tol

Hello. I realise this is somewhat of an unusual request, but it would be rather useful. I've recently become more involved with cross-wiki anti-vandalism, which means that I'm frequently editing wikis where I'm not autoconfirmed. I have a rather hard time completing CAPTCHAs (which I had to do, for example, with this edit requesting deletion of this page on hiwiki). I'm clearly not a spambot, which is what the CAPTCHAs are for, anyway. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 04:57, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

@Tol: a better solution to your problem is likely to just use User:Krinkle/Tools/Global SUL or the like once. It will attach you to all the projects, and almost all of them have time-only autopromote to autoconfirmed which will take care of more than just CAPTCHA issues you could run across. — xaosflux Talk 13:47, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
