Disable abuse filter

Please delete/disable on of these; they do the same thing. Special:Abusefilter/100 Special:Abusefilter/99. --Glaisher (talk) 10:15, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Keep 99, get rid of 100 if you have to. PiRSquared17 (talk) 14:04, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
Updated 99 in line with the help about article_articleid, and disabled 100 a few hours ago. Watching the stream of abuse for hours, and even resorted to turning block on, though would like to be able to do that globally, but won't/can't. Fairly large number of hacked PCs out there being zombified for this abuse. :-/  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:09, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't like the idea of IPs getting indef-blocked. Also iirc, there was some discussion on not enabling block option on global filters. --Glaisher (talk) 08:18, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
It is my plan to convert them in a day or so to something like a month or two, the are hijacked computers. :-/ Yep it is a bit of a shame that the system gblocks indefinite, and it is something that we should get amended with a bugzilla for IP addresses, maybe something like a week. Re not using, sure, it was an emergency measure, and not used lightly.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:28, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I see that Tegel has one made changes to block lengths at one wiki, I am treading through others.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:32, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Only 3 edits globally (luxo:, all in mediawikiwiki (1 valid edition and 2 not valid). I see no reason to block globally or locally. Currently exists more than 20 active local admins, if he continuous request there a local block.
Note: The GS we can't globally block, is a capacity of stewards. Cheers, Alan (talk) 11:59, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Global protect

Status:    Not done

Do you stewards have tool for proect page globally, or is it even possible? I was asking article Professor_Layton_vs._Phoenix_Wright:_Ace_Attorney to be protected globally because an IPv6 user (every time with different IPv6 address) inserts fake information into the article. 16:06, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

No, there is no global protection tool currently. --Glaisher (talk) 07:57, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Ok, no more then. 14:12, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Spam target b:cy:Arbennig:RecentChanges

To note that cyWB is being hit as a spam target, and has no active administrators. So eyes there would be useful. I have given it a clean today, and I may get back there to run some CU tests to see if we can stop the spambot creations.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:25, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Billinghurst: Looks like this one is prone to FPs (like people trying to create articles in user space). [1] [2] [3] [4] I don't think disallow should be enabled at its current state. Some possible modifications: not match if <ref> {{templates}} are in wikitext. --Glaisher (talk) 06:51, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

I am not sure that any of those user page edits are primary material. We could look to utilise email_confirm which would have let one of the four through, we could also look to change the displayed rejection message rather than the default, so the edits being disallowed could be more helpfully supported. We could look to exclude subpages. Any person who has edited even remotely per a guideline will not be caught by that filter.
There is a whole load of blocked spambots in the abuse log, and its false positive rate had been very low for meta and small wikis. Let us find some worthy content that is caught, and we look ensure that is not caught by the log filters.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:19, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Global filters are supposed to be completely uncontroversial and I see some hits which may be considered as valid edits at some wikis and we meta users shouldn't be disallowing such edits unless it's blatant spam. This is not blatant spam, afaict. --Glaisher (talk) 14:58, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Made two changes though we now have On average, its run time is 3.37 ms, and it consumes 208 conditions of the condition limit. which is mounting up. If someone can see improvements, please suggest them.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:18, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Hmm, it must be a calculation concerning the average, the condition count is now right down, so that is okay.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:57, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Status:    Locally handled

We need the history of Fenerbahçe SK (currently a redirect) to be merged with Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü. This operation cannot be performed by local admins (including me) as the former page has more than 5000 revisions. --Superyetkin (talk) 16:09, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Enduring unability to log in - what the HELL is going on?!

Status:    Done

Ladies and gentlemen, I now experience something I haven't encountered once before though I have been a Wikipedian for 10 years. I can't log in. When I try, the system gives an "error" report, the usual "this is probably temporary, try, again in a few minutes." This is going on for a day or three now. Meanwhile, nobody else seems to suffer this problem. Clearly somethings is wrong with me, or at least with the way my computer submits data to the server. I don't understand why I was suddenly logged out everywhere in the first place (my cookie being far from stale!), but not being able to log back in is outright disastrous. I am not sure whether this is the right page to report this problem, but I suspect it has something to do with me not having a single login. I hope some of you can point out the problem. 20:48, 12 December 2014 (UTC) better known as Steinbach

Nah.wikt deletions

Status:    Not done

Please, delete (at least) empty categories in wikt:nah:Neneuhcāyōtl:Para_borrar_en_breve. Some of them are here for many years and this categories causes interwiki conflicts. JAn Dudík (talk) 10:20, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

It looks like the local sysop refuses to delete the page tagged if the template don't have a reason or if the page has been replaced with the {{delete}} template. -- M\A 11:27, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I think the local sysop is raising important points, namely that one should not replace the page's content with the deletion template and they should provide a deletion rationale, at least a generic one, for why a page needs to be deleted. This is easily done with something like User:Hoo man/Scripts/Tagger and there really is no reason not to do so. In any case, as there are active local sysops and the requesting user is in conversations with them, I do not think it appropriate for us global users to intervene. Status:    Done

It seems that la.wt has no active administrator. Thus I'm asking here: Could anyone please delete the stuff listed at wikt:la:Categoria:Delenda?

  • "Disputatio Usoris:Tijedug", "Helpful Tips For Buying Hand Mixer- An Evaluation" - that's spam
  • "Brunus galitias" - no entry for wiktionary, might even be spam
  • "cracia", "S. R. I" - no entry/typo
  • "Formula:[...]" (Template:[...]) - They are not in used, got replaced by other templates and are not needed. One could argue, that the templates could stay as redirects, but: 1. Other templates don't have a redirect version, too. 2. Having those templates as redirects might confuse (new) editors.
    • New templates are usually like from "Formula:B[...]" to "Formula:b[...]" (changing the capital letter at the beginning to a small letter). "Formula:wikipedia" already existed as "Formula:vicipaedia".
  • "明後日の晩" & "明後日の朝" - can't judge that...

Could pleas revert that: [5]. I don't know how to handle, every time that I try to put some content in wy-pt the only sysop there (for political meters) remove content, and thread me, as you can see, he simply remove content, and changed one map, by the old one that is impossible to read not even justifying, and there's no rule about the type of map... he normally do that [6], [7] (in this case, I checked all establishments and removed the non existing), [8] he deleted most of that, and the part used, no credit was giving... I could give more, but you already can see work going to the sewer, could you pleas revert? Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton (talk) 05:19, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Rename editinterface global group

Status:    Done

Please rename 'editinterface' global group to 'interface-editor' group. See phab:T85731. (I would prefer it if it was changed to 'global-interface-editor' so that there could be separate translations for both local and global groups but there is no one else who agrees with it on IRC).--Glaisher (talk) 16:59, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose the requested ('interface-editor') name as too narrow-scoped (I'd Support Support 'technician' or admin-tech or something of that nature), but Support Support the idea of making them consistent and Support Support there being a 'global-' version of whatever the final consensus for a name is per Glaisher. Please see the Phabricator ticket for discussion about this. {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 17:48, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
I don't understand how 'interface-editor' is too narrow-scoped for a global group which is only given out for people needing to edit the interface? John F. Lewis (talk) 17:59, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Per Interface_editors#Rights these editors get the userrights of [ 'autoconfirmed', 'edit', 'editinterface', 'editprotected', ' editsemiprotected', 'editusercss', 'editusercssjs', 'edituserjs', 'protect', 'suppressredirect', 'tboverride', 'templateeditor' ]. So, they not only can edit interface messages, they can edit all protected pages. They can edit protected templates and modules, they can edit user js and css, they can edit interface messages, they can edit fully protected content or change the protection levels of any of those pages. So, the global group laid out here should be named something of the nature of 'global-technician', 'global-admin-tech', or 'global-protected-editor', and the lesser versions of it on the other wikis should be 'technician', 'admin-tech', or 'protected-editor'. {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 18:09, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
They may have the rights but it doesn't mean it falls under the scope. The group's scope if for editing interface messages, thus the group should be named so. John F. Lewis (talk) 18:14, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
  • If the rights assigned to the group aren't in scope for the group, they should be removed. If the goal is to have a group that can only edit interface messages, a Phab ticket should be submitted to create a new userright that can override protections and only edit interface messages and that should be added to a group named 'interface_editor'. {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 18:17, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Can you please clarify if all local groups are now called interface-editor already and that there is a translation on TWN for it? The last commit mentioned in the bug seems not to be implemented yet. --MF-W 19:00, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
  • It hasn't been merged yet and the interface messages hasn't also been updated yet. Nemo_bis has suggested in the task that a steward could do the adding/removing of users to the local groups. Are stewards willing to do that? (would make things a lot easier). --Glaisher (talk) 04:23, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
  • "grouppage-interface-editor" would be "{{ns:project}}:Interface editors" so this would break links to the global group. This could be resolved by using what I originally suggested; two different names for both local and global groups. --Glaisher (talk) 04:37, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Isn't there a script which developers can run when renaming a group? (a local group of course; as global group renaming is part of the CentralAuth interface) --MF-W 16:35, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
  • It's possible, indeed. One just needs to find someone to do it. Vogone (talk) 17:28, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Alright, this can be done now. i18n has been deployed to 1.25wmf17 & 1.25wmf18. Note that the global group should be renamed to 'global-interface-editor' (not what was in the original post; changed per discussion at gerrit). --Glaisher (talk) 16:55, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
