Manual requests

Large pagina merge at nl-wiki

Status:    Done

Dear stewards, Per this request I kindly request that you merge two page history's. Leftovers from a mess created by Masti who seems to be unable to understand how to clean up the mess/what is aksked of him. I kindly request that you merge the page history of nl:Overleg gebruiker:MoiraMoira/OverlegArchief51 with the page history of nl:Overleg gebruiker:MoiraMoira. “Overleg gebruiker:MoiraMoira” should be the target page and “Overleg gebruiker:MoiraMoira/OverlegArchief51” the “source” page.

As a local sysop I concluded that the original request made by Jeroen N to our local administrators has merit and should be fulfilled. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.

Natuur12 Is steward action still required? Thank you, Vermont (talk) 14:18, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
Vermont yes, steward action is still required. Natuur12 (talk) 15:21, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

I would like a response since this request is open for more than four months. It shouldn't take months to correct an error. Natuur12 (talk) 15:15, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

I'm starting to action it now. – Ajraddatz (talk) 16:18, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Deletions on sowiki

Status:    Locally handled

Please see so:Category:Tirtir, as well as the contribs of the following:

All pages in the category need deletion, as well as all the pages created by the IP’s, which are copyright violations copied and machine translated from the English Wikipedia. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 14:40, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Why are they copyright violations if they are copied from enwiki? Ruslik (talk) 20:33, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
The main concern here is the poor quality of the machine translations. The attribution issues could surely be fixed. --Vogone (talk) 20:39, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
The Share-alike part of the CC BY-SA 3.0 license, which is why xwiki attribution is a thing. Also, see above; I would go through and attribute, although it's useless as the pages are of terrible quality. Vermont (talk) 19:46, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
Found another one: [1]. Also please nuke contribs of this user; the vast majority of pages created are machine translated from enwiki, and the others are copied graphs and charts. Vermont (talk) 20:09, 15 November 2018 (UTC) User dealt with by Rxy Vermont (talk) 20:39, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

More accounts to block: so:User:Myoshormus212, so:User:Mystic212, so:User:Pialpha232, and so:User:Apreo121. CU confirmed on enwiki here. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 03:06, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
They are actively editing with so:User:Milyan212, continuing to create the same sort of copyright violations. Vermont (talk) 04:04, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
@Vermont: I have nuked the most recent contributions, however, I cannot find time right now to deal with the rest. Since there seems to be an unwillingness to help you for an extended period of time now, in addition to you monitoring sowiki on a regular basis, I would suggest you to apply for adminship locally, following standard procedure. This will allow you to take care of this wiki yourself in case of (unfortunately likely) future disruption. --Vogone (talk) 04:35, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Requested here. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 11:13, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

I followed up with a checkuser here, and found a number of recent accounts:

Myoshormus212
Mystic212
Fortuniacastle212
Fortunia212
Pialpha232
Milyan212
Fortunia212
Apreo121
Delta313

Many of these accounts are also blocked on enwiki/other wikis and have edits across multiple wikis. This seems like something that might be best addressed by cross-wiki action, rather than continuing to mop up individually on sowiki. I'll look through the other accounts for any other pages that need deleting after work. – Ajraddatz (talk) 22:23, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Another one: Special:CentralAuth/Salid232 looks like it's also them. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 10:53, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. The main mopping on sowiki to be done is sorting through the page creations to see which are okay, as some are, and which need deletion, as well as checking for and deleting the many similar copyvio IP page creations, which greatly outnumber those made by accounts. Adding gadgets & other mediawiki editing request

Status:    Done

we(tcy.wikipedia) like to request adding gadgets requested on w:tcy:ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯ:ಚಾವಡಿ#Gadgets_ಅಮದ್_ಮಾಲ್ತ್_ಕೊರ್ಲೆ and change text on w:tcy:MediaWiki:Newusermessage-editor to ತುಳು ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯ ಸಮುದಾಯೊ. --★ Anoop✉ 12:23, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Comment Comment @AnoopZ: Newusermessage-editor should be added to the mediawiki set at translatewiki: and any other such standard mediawiki messages. I am looking at the rest.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:29, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
@billinghurst as per mw:Extension:NewUserMessage#In-wiki_configuration it should be done locally.★ Anoop✉ 12:32, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
Made that wording change, though I would encourage the community to get their messages added to translatewiki: as I don't see many messages translated there, and that forces this intervention locally, rather than Tulu language wikis getting Tulu messages by default. You can see the range of messages where you are presented with the English language at https://tcy.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=allmessages  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:50, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
Tagged as done, seems resolved. – Ajraddatz (talk) 01:23, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

OAuth Enable request for IPCheck

Dev branch:

Status:    Done

Production branch:

Status:    Done

IPCheck is an API-based proxy checker: link. The next version will use OAuth to limit access to editors with a certain tenure and number of edits, as we only have a limited amount of requests we can make in a certain timeframe to most of the upstream apis. This request is for final testing of the development branch before deployment. SQLQuery me! 23:25, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and added the production branch as well. SQLQuery me! 23:51, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Blocking the same user in real in vepwiki

Status:    Not done

This user is from Brazil, he is not Veps at all, but sets Vep=N. And I waiting for deletion all his library-looking sandbox with the same spam. -- Koiravva (talk) 20:03, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

I don't really see a reason to block the user, as he has not edited outside of his userspace... --MF-W 21:10, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
(Edit conflict.) There are six edits in user name space, and two of those are reverting you. Personally, I cannot see that this is an area that we would wish to regulate, I certainly won't, though others may see differently.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:35, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Status of user:mriogrnier request

Status:    Not done

User:mriogrnier came on french irc because this user was blocked as an open proxy. 5 days after sending an email to stewards@wikimedia.org this user did not had any answer. Is there any problem with this request ? --Xavier Combelle (talk) 18:35, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

@Xavier Combelle and Mriogrnier: I cannot answer for the stewards though I do note that it is steward election time, so a very busy time. Can the user log into meta to add a request? We may be able to coordinate a local IP exemption at the wiki where they are trying to edit, guessing for frWP in the interim. Generally we would suggest that they should not be using open proxies as brand new users on OPs is not something that is particularly favourable.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:08, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
@user:billinghurst as far as i understand she doesn't use an open proxy but she is in an ip range which is considered (wrongly?) to be open proxy Xavier Combelle (talk) 18:50, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
@Xavier Combelle: <shrug> Can only address such with data. If incapable of being logged in, then it sounds like a hard block. If cannot log in global and here, then it sounds like a particularly problematic IP range. To have a zero edit user complaining adds that element of uncertainty. Stuck with stewards, nobody else can help globally; though if frWP wants to manage it locally with someone vouching for the person and taking it to the frWP admins.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:02, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
I just checked our OTRS queue and cannot find any email from 5 days ago. If the user only intends on editing frwiki, and has no edits so far, I think the first step should be to ask for a local exemption from frwiki sysops. – Ajraddatz (talk) 01:22, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
closing as Delisted Delisted as no further clarification has been made, and not contact made. Please reapply with detail if there are still issues.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:45, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Inactivy syops on frwikibooks

Status:    Done

frwikibooks has an inactivity policy of one year, and many of the sysops there do not meet that requirement. According to Google Translator, they can request the suspension of their sysop flag in anticipation of a long absence and recover it on simple request to the bureaucrats. I searched and didn't find anybody requesting that, and I thought it was appropiate to let stewards be aware of it. Those who do not fulfill the policy are Greudin, Perditax, Savant-fou, Sub, and TouzaxA. I would have contacted the community first but there are hardly a few active users and probably it would take a long time to receive an answer. The fact that the sysop flag can be "suspended" led me here instead of SR/P. Esteban16 (talk) 17:56, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

I think that starting the conversation locally is useful. I would think that where we have advanced rightsholders outside of the Wikimedia agreed community standard of two years, that we should flag it for stewards who are undertaking AAR, otherwise it probably still sits with frWB.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:59, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
@JackPotte:. Also you've linked to an archived proposal. Leaderboard (talk) 21:37, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
OK, let's remove this right to the mentioned users, according to the local policy. JackPotte (talk) 22:15, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
Please use SRP's appropriate section to request removal. — regards, Revi 03:05, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
I've talked with a frwikibooks editor and proceeded to request the removal on SRP. Esteban16 (talk) 17:01, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Recent activity in kywiktionary

Status:    Done

The last several hundred entries created in the Kyrgyz Wiktionary (pushing it past the 30,000-article milestone) have been by the following IP editors (almost certainly the same person):

While the entries themselves are not obviously incorrect, the editing pattern of "rotating" IP addresses is similar to cross-wiki vandals trying to get around past blocks/bans. Would someone like to investigate whether this is such a user? Alternatively (or additionally), would someone like to put the time in to check whether the information given in these pages seems to be correct? I checked a couple of pages and it looks like it might be. (The wiki has no local admin.) - dcljr (talk) 02:57, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

I have put a temporary (1 week) block on the 2 /64s, and the single IP address. We probably need to engage with some wiktionary experts to work out what may be useful to do there. @Koavf: care for an opinion?  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:12, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: From what I can see from the English and Spanish entries, they aren't vandalism or nonsense, so I don't think it's necessary to delete them. I haven't seen these problematic IPs at en.wikt. I'm actually fine with letting quality contributions from banned users stand, personally--there is no incentive to make the dictionary worse. If you want more feedback, I'd suggest posting at en.wikt. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:26, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
@Koavf: Thanks for looking. There is no point in having bots create pages that are to style, though never going to host content in any foreseeable time. I would think we would all prefer the contributors to spend their time creating 10 useful and informative pages rather than 100 pages of rubbish that is worse than click bait, and I don't see that these are quality contributions, though favour seeking opinion of other wiktionaires about salvagability and discussions with the user, than just removing all the contributions that have been made. If you think that the enWikt community has something valued to add, then please invite them to express their opinion here.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:34, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
In order to get a Kyrgyz perspective on this, I've asked an active admin at kywiki to look at some of the pages. (While sampling more of the entries, I've seen cases that look pretty "normal" and others that look pretty useless [like an entry for a purported Kyrgyz word that simply listed the same word as it's "definition" — of course, I can't find that entry again to link to it].) - dcljr (talk) 07:58, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
Ah, found it. Here's one normal-looking and one useless entry, both created by the same IP. - dcljr (talk) 08:08, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
And one somewhere in-between. This does have some valid content and some useless {{PAGENAME}} entries. —Justin (koavf)TCM 09:31, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
Whoops, Holder just swept in and deleted all the pages. That probably means he determined that the editor was a previously banned user. But he can explain his decision himself. - dcljr (talk) 21:51, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
I looked at dozens of entries and had the impression that all were useless with low content. Such entries have been created many times in kywikt probably by the same person. As I have seen that all the IP's have been blocked I deleted all these entries without looking at every single one per mass deletion. --Holder (talk) 05:38, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
I have extended the block for a month, and directed the block to make contact at this page.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:11, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Please remove old Wikimania proposal

Status:    Not done

I'd like this page to be removed: https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Decentralizing_Wiki It seems there are no more editors on this wiki, so only global stewards can remove it. --Guaka (talk) 14:43, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

@Guaka: Wiki is closed, and that means closed. It would have to be an exceptional reason to remove any page from a closed wiki, and that usually means truly exceptional.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:31, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
