Administrator access

Chrisportelli@mt.wikipedia

The following discussion is closed.

Please grant administrator access to Chrisportelli@mt.wikipedia due to successful RFA.

Thanks --Giangian15 12:27, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Only 1 support vote, sorry, but that is not enough to gain permanent adminship, he might be able to ask for a temporary status. If he wants that he should do so in the section below. thanks,--Nick1915 - all you want 12:35, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
please ask to a local 'crat: two of them are active--Nick1915 - all you want 12:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
you think that if they were active, i would have submitted a request here? i tried contacting them before i came here but to no avail. Anyway that RFA was there for a whole week. It's not our fault that it collected just one vote, no? so what we're we gonna do?--Giangian15 12:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
this one is active, have you tried to send an email to him? if he doesn't answer, please consider to ask a temporary sysopship below--Nick1915 - all you want 12:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Of course i tried, Joe is not so active, he comes online only when he's at work, and does only one or 2 actions and never replies to anything. Besides that admin/bureucrat access was granted to him without the consensus of the community from SRL (and you're making a fuss because chris got only 1 support vote). SRL the other bureacrat/admin, doesn't know how to spk in proper maltese and he wasn't granted access from the community but from the stewards here. That's why he's inactive and never contributes anything.

Now the only thing i'm asking you, to grant chris the tools cause he's very active and did over 7000 edits. Me and chris are the only two "active" users atm. Thanks --Giangian15 13:08, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I am sorry, but I agree with Nick, one vote is no enough for a fair voting. Please apply for temp adminship, it is technically the same, so don't worry. We can do it right here in this request, we can offer him 3 months to start, he can leave a short message a few days before expiration here, to prolong it easily or if the community grows make a voting. Thanks for Your understanding, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh, well, I see the local crat was only notyfied today, so we will wait for his answer, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:21, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I have left him a note, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:24, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

no, he wasn't .. he was notified the day before yesterday. that's because you can't read maltese ;) --Giangian15 13:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes check.svg Done, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:36, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Hm, but why do they need adminship there? Users are not active there. For example: Smotrov has only one edit there since January.--Ahonc 11:35, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
They had been elected, we don't care if they are not active afterwards, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:40, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Just to clarify that, activity level and the resulting policy implications, if any, is a local wiki matter, not a steward matter... if a wiki enacts an activity policy that requires more or less automatic removal based on activity levels for various actions, then of course we would care (because we'd go check before turning the bit off...). :) ++Lar: t/c 15:32, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Evertype@my.wikipedia

I request Administrator access. I am one of the authors of the Unicode Standard and was responsible for developing the Unicode 5.1 revision of Myanmar script encoding, which replaced the Unicode 4.1 version. This has massive ramifications for fonts, encodings, articles, links, redirects, and so on. There has been an enormous amount of kerfluffle about this activity over the past week, evidently stemming from turf wars from some font designers in Burma. This has led to two requests for Adminship from people with fewer than ten edits on the Wiki, and a splendid campaign of supporters of those and opposers of others from people who have one or two edits, only on the request for Adminship page. It has been a bit exhausting. Jimbo Wales has offered his support; he took notice of my interest in Burma in October 2007.

Thank you. Evertype 10:17, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

I would decline it. 5:4 votes is not really a good support. Additionally, You don't speak the language and You don't contribute to the wiki (except for creating articles in English, which can't be counted since they are in the wrong language and should be deleted anyway). Other opinions? --Thogo (talk) 17:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I have offered the user a temp-status when he requested it the first time [1], the vote was 3:1 back then. Now this has changed to 5:4... he seems to want to help in changing the font in my.wiki and seems to need the status for technical support (if I understood it correctly). However he seems to decline the temporary status for some reason I don't understand but insists of being permanent sysop, even though the community seems too small for a regular voting and 56% favour is not the best outcome... I would decline it too, other views are welcomed, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:40, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Why apply for an temporary access when you can have a permanent access? I too, don't understand it. I was given temporary access twice (I guess). --Filipinayzd 22:15, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Thogo, would you mind, please, looking at the nature of the votes Against? One user had three edits 2007-11-07, and twelve edits 2008-07-07. One user has had only 8 edits, all from 2008-07-07, all on the request page (he now has more, mostly attacks on the other existing Admin, MyMyanmar). The third user voting against my request had four edits as of 2006-07 and no further edits until 2008-07-07, on this page. I didn't work out how many edits the fourth one had; it was doubtless few. And both Okisan and Sithu015 now want to be Admins, having no experience editing ANY Wikipedia. The articles I created are all from the Simple English Wikipedia and MyMyanmar's father is going to be translating them into Burmese. There are only 10 of them, the Sun and the eight planets and Pluto. They are there because the articles are good and the plan is to let them serve as a model for other good articles. Translation on Saturn has already begun.
The Myanmar Wikipedia is in a shambles. The character encoding model is broken, half the articles are in one encoding and half in another. For a week now there've been turf wars going on regarding personalities and dragging in sockpuppets from non-Wiki forums and none of that is getting anything done. MyMyanmar and I are trying to work together on this; he knows Burmese and programming, I have a lot more Wikipedia experience than he has. We both applied for Adminship last year; he was given permanent access and I was given three-month access which expired. I have been talking with Jimbo Wales about the problems on the Wiki and will have a call in to the Deputy Director of the Wikimedia Foundation after 23 July about my participation in trying to sort out the problems here. And on top of all of this I am a very busy person who does not want to have to come begging here every six months when my access expires. I've wasted a great deal of time this week alone negotiating with you about this whole situation. (I've no specific complaint about you.) Two of the current Admins on the Myanmar Wikipedia want me to be given permanent status. So does Hintha, a frequent contributor So does Wales. The negative votes against my request are without merit. Please, gentlemen. Nobody else seems to be volunteering to sort out the problems this Wiki has. Burma has enough troubles without us getting bogged down in "temp-status" or counting the votes of people who are not voting in good faith. Evertype 22:24, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Evertype is proposing another costly wrong direction. Previous Font for Myanmar Wikpedia has already been an outcry. After Unicode 5.1, there is no urgent need for a font, since three FOSS Unicode 5.1 fonts are available. Translation is not the way to go. Evertype really need to understand Myanmar community dividend and think why they are not contributing. If the translation has specific wording and voice, Myanmar Wikipedia could be vandalized by blogger mass. Okisan 23:10, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Birdy, the first time I asked for Admin access was 2007-05-17; it was granted on a temp basis and expired. I'm back. Evertype 22:26, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Are we going to request over and over again? --Filipinayzd 22:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Do, say, six month terms until there's a big enough community that can have at least 5-6 regulars elect you as a permanent administrator. Once that happens, you won't need to come here and ask anymore. Even at three months, is coming here four times a year that much of a hassle? Kylu 02:24, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
You know, I'm a really busy person. Please see the wikipedia article about me and this list of my activities. Adding in "remember to ask for admin extensions again" to my schedule is hassle, frankly. If you're satisfied to grant it to me for three months and to re-activate it four times a year if I ask for it, it seems that you ought to be satisfied to grant it to me on an ongoing basis. Evertype 18:30, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
How can be proceed or adjust his administrator role. He truly expressed that very busy person. So. Please skip that post to other Burmese native speaker. And We are getting more advance technique for conversion from/to Myanmar Unicode. We do not need much to make conversion by human being. Prince Kanaung help conversion process among Myanmar Unicode Fonts and legacy fonts.Parabaik 19:57, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
I would like Birdy and Thogo to address my point. The support that I have for Adminship is not 5:4 because none of the Oppose votes are from people with any expertise or even many edits on the Wikipedia. On the other and, the founder of the Wikipedia is one of the people who has given his Support. What is the problem here? All that's happening is that a co-ordinated effort is not getting underway. Have you grounds or policy for denying this request? Evertype 22:35, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Where is the local policy that requires voting requirements. Sorry, but I would mark this as not done, I will ask other stewards for their opinion, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:13, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Evertype: I still wonder how you could help that wiki not being able to communicate properly in Burmese. The articles you created are in English, you should not do that. This doesn't help the community at all. The Burmese community certainly should have their own sysops, but they should at least be able to read and write Burmese, otherwise it doesn't make sense. Thus I would also decline the request. --Thogo (talk) 19:20, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
I would be working with the other administrators on aspects of the encoding problems that need to be solved. Do you understand the scope of the problem? Not only are there myriad non-Unicode fonts out there, but there are semi-Unicode and pseudo-Unicode fonts, and on top of that there is Unicode 4.1 encoding which was changed by Unicode 5.1. None of this is trivial. It is technical and it pervades the whole wiki. I can't help the other Admins unless I have appropriate access privileges, and the ones I already had expired and here we are again. PLEASE. Regarding the ten articles in English, taken from the Simple English Wikipedia, these were put there in consultation with MyMyanmar and one of the other active participants. They are good articles and they will be translated in to Burmese. So I don't see what the problem is with granting this request. This wiki cannot grow unless its encoding is robust and tools for users to work on it are available. I will once again say that I have been talking with Jimbo Wales about the problems on the Wiki and will have a call in to the Deputy Director of the Wikimedia Foundation after 23 July about my participation in trying to sort out the problems here. Evertype 02:55, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Frankly, Evertype and his parters have no attempt for the conversion of Unicode 4.1 to Unicode 5.1. The only thing they are trying is Anawrahta project, which is based on Unicode 5.2 and our open source community has been shocked to discover it. Translation is the last resolve after virtually no contributor. The translation, if it has certain wording, Myanmar Wikipedia could be very bad public face. I wish Evertype be not in the dark side. In any case, he can help from behind without being adminship. Okisan 08:12, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
X mark.svg Not done you've not enough supports (4 pro and 2 opposes after striking invalid votes) --Nick1915 - all you want 11:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Then you've got no credible solution for the encoding problems on the Myanmar Wikipedia. There are things I cannot do without Admin access, so now that Wiki will just slimper along getting nowhere. Well done, stewards. Evertype 12:50, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Followup: Nick1915, I'd like you to indicate which of the opposing votes you consider to be valid. Evertype 12:59, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
No one. Neither supports, nor opposes. Nobody has contributions before july 2008, anyway this doesn't matter: the local community is too small for a permanent sysopship --Nick1915 - all you want 20:52, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Then it wasn't 4 pro and 2 opposes, but rather 4 pros and no opposes. The local community already has permanent sysops. MyMyanmar is one, and he has supported my request because he and I want to work together on this. Evertype 22:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
"he and I" is not a community decision. No way. Now this request should be closed--Nick1915 - all you want 22:23, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to archive this soon. Evertype, please understand that community didn't vote, and a sysop opinion can't change that. You've state that you will involve Jimbo and Deputy Director, so at least from us stewards case is closed. es:Drini 22:33, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, you can get temporary sysop rights for 3 months. This voting is just nonsense, since all people who voted there have 0 edits except for the voting page and their user pages and were only registered to vote. Since you are one of two active people on this wiki, you should maybe have sysop rights (as well as Ringer), but permanent rights are not necessary in such a small community of two people. --Thogo (talk) 17:26, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. --Filipinayzd 22:06, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
On what grounds are permanent rights not necessary in a small community? It seems to me that the Bikol Wiki shouldn't just lose its Admin(s) every three months. Evertype 22:55, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
They don't lose the rights if they just drop by and leave a message shortly before the status expires, the community is obviously too small to hold a regular voting, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 23:08, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

I've requested a six month temp adminship for you below. Generally, until there's enough of a community that you can get ten regular contributors to vote in favor of you, it's considered too small for a permanent adminship. Visiting every three months or so isn't too bad, and it gives you an excuse to keep up on inter-project issues that may have bearing on your project. Kylu 03:15, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm terribly sorry for this, but it seems to me that I've overlooked some things. Namely, it's best not to give permanent sysop status on ru.wikibooks, since all the recent commotion over there. You may want to consider implementing the Bot policy on the wiki, which would automatically allow stewards to grant the bot flag to certain classes of bots (see Bot_policy#Automatic_approval). It's opt-in, but quite handy for letting smaller communities focus on important things such as article-building. I hope that helps out! :) Kylu 19:46, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Request For CheckUser Status In Azerbaijani Wikipedia

The following discussion is closed.

Following users have gained the on-wiki approval of our local community in az Wikipedia:

Please grant them local checkuser status in Azerbaijani WIkipedia.--Mehrdad 17:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid that's not enough votes. You need to have at least 30 votes. --FiliP × 05:16, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Altough it might seem logical, I could see no such requirement here. Neither it existed when the vote was started. There is a genuine need for local checkusers to prevent periodic disruptions to the Azerbaijani wikipedia's work and going to meta each time is not effective. Therefore, the community has decided to elect local checkusers. Thank you. --TimBits 07:11, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
I am surprised by this voting too, never seen such for a cu. I wonder if the "change" of the policy here is official. I would say lets see what cary has to say about it. It is Time2wait.svg On hold anyway as these persons have to identify to the foundation. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 13:28, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. When I looked for the info at that page, I was surprised I couldn't find it because I swear I saw it a while ago. I still believe that the number of voters in this election is very low and I suggest not doing this. But yes, let's wait for Cary. --FiliP × 09:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
The change was the result of a long discussion on the checkuser-L mailing list. The problem, essentially, is that there is no single system, and no simple way to describe the current systems. For example, enwiki has an Arbcom, which appoints checkusers. dewiki has an arbcom, but checkusers are elected. eswiki (if I recall correctly) has one CU elected by the community before the creation of their arbcom and one CU appointed by the arbcom, with no clear decision (and some controversy) about whether future CUs will be elected or appointed. There was also concern on the list about the recent attempts to establish an arbcom in order to appoint some people as CUs who had failed to be elected (I think it was en wikiquote but I would have to look it up to make sure). I think the requirement of having a minimum number of votes and 75-80% consensus is a good idea, especially if it has been established as a precedent. But that language was being used by some people on enwiki to justify creating an election mechanism that would be independent of Arbcom. There was also some confusion about whether this policy describes the appointment of checkusers for meta-wiki or for all wikis. So that's the problem. Perhaps the confusion could be addressed by saying, "If a wiki currently has a mechanism to appoint or elect checkusers, future checkusers must be selected using the same mechanism. If a wiki does not have checkusers, the 30 vote/80% consensus rule applies." I confess I have not given this much thought recently but does that seem reasonable? For what its worth, during these discussions, the Foundation was silent and did not offer firm direction, or indeed any direction. Thatcher 17:26, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, changes of the CU policy are not duty of people on mailing lists, but have to be first approved by the global community (which wasn't asked so far) and second approved by the foundation. So this change is not valid. --Thogo (talk) 17:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
This was discussed on the list and I posted my changes there, and you are all on the list, so you've had at least 3 months to object. Do as you like. I've lost most of my interest in wiki-governance anyway. Thatcher 17:54, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Thatcher, please don't take it personal, Thogos argument is not destructive criticism. I am sorry, but I must say it was impossible for me to follow and read that monsterthread for me and You might agree that such an interpretation as we see it here can't be what was intented, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:58, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I agree that 7 votes is unreasonable. But it was also unreasonable for the text of the prior version ("On a wiki with no Arbitration Committee or where the community prefers independent elections) to try and bypass enwiki's arbcom, and Jdforrester's version about "approved arbcoms" does not reflect the situation with eswiki or dewiki. I posted my suggestion to the policy talk page, suggest further discussion there. Thatcher 18:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm not offended, just tired. Thatcher 18:07, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank You for Your input, it is very appreciated, never give up too easily :) if You are tired just take some rest but only to come back with renewed strenght ;) kind regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 18:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Additionally it would be good, if it is changed (and these changes seem to be a proposal which have to be approved still by the foundation), that there is some clause so votings with 7:1 like [8] can not happen, that is simply ridiculous for a cu, who has access to sensitive private data, sorry, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:48, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Private list is not the place for talking about the policy. I reverted edits and talk may start at the talk page. --Millosh 18:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

In all fairness, we in the Azerbaijani wikipedia have hold the voting, being under the impression that the latest version of the policy was official and the results are valid according to that version. I don't see anything ridiculous in that. It is inconsequential whether the person making those changes had different things in his/her mind or has erred in making the said changes. I don't see how we can be blamed for that. Therefore I'd like someone to clarify it to us- what is the current official, valid policy, so that we can hold a new vote if necessary and make our request accordingly? Thank you.--TimBits 20:06, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
You have our apologies for the mixup, but at the moment the current version of the checkuser policy is at Checkuser policy#Access to CheckUser. It states 25-30 users minimum and 70-80% approval, as determined by the local community. Thanks for your understanding. Kylu 22:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
That 25-30 members mark is quite important, given the sensitive nature of the access. I'm unsure why it was removed; but it certainly needs to remain in place. That goes for any arbcom elections as well (25-30 in support for each arbcom member) before we should permit a project arbcom the ability to appoint its own checkusers. This demonstrates that the community is mature enough to abide by the foundation's policies. It also demonstrates that the community is big enough where asking the stewards to step when a checkuser is needed can become a drain on the stewards' time. Cary Bass demandez 20:01, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you, if that is the case, then we need to hold the election again. Getting 25 votes shouldn't be a problem, all one needs to do is to advertise it better and and set the duration for a long time, unlike the last time, when we were seeking to get checkusers appointed as soon as possible, thereby had set the minimum time limit. In any case we need checkusers in our wikipedia and the community is mature enough for that. Thanks to all for clarification. --TimBits 21:12, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Please note that the voting has also to be separate for each candidate, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Actually the local bureaucrats weren't even asked about this deflag; the user is still active in the archival activity. Please wait for confirmation. --Brownout(msg) 15:34, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
He's only temporary and the deadline has already expired. The adminship was renewable, but the community, AFAIK, didn't renew it. of course, he could regualrly candidate himself for adminship; but remember, this is only a temporary adminship. --Pietrodn · talk with me 16:06, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
He's not active. He didn't make any protections in the last 5 months --Stef Mec 16:12, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Is there an emergency I'm not aware of? Those flags were granted at bureaucrats discretion and can be renewed, as stated in the archival project, I still don't get why their opinion in this matter shouldn't be heard. --Brownout(msg) 16:17, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
No, there isn't any emergency. Simply his adminship was temporary and it expired, so we can proceed for deflag. It is the normal procedure for temporary adminship, isn't it? --Pietrodn · talk with me 16:25, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Temporary permissions (rejected and expired requests only)

Approved, ongoing requests should be moved to Requests for permissions/Approved temporary.

Snakesteuben@fy and Sonne@fy Wiktionary

We request sysop access.

Why an appointment is needed: Currently our project has no real admin. (The only admin is DerHexer, one of you guys, who is obviously very busy, so has not been particularly active on our project. I believe this has been the case for about a year now. Our user interface is shabby, and Sonne has theorised that the difficulty of making entries may be one reason other users (we have 104 registered) are, or have become, reluctant to contribute. I would like to attend to updating/creating our common.css and .js, as well as the editing tools and buttons available, as soon as possible.

Also routine tasks have gone unattended for some time. E.g., needless to say, candidates for speedy deletion--aren't.

Community Approval: I have checked with sysop DerHexer, who suggested making this request.

There was no substantive response to the entry linked above. The entry was posted only one week ago. However, Sonne and I are the only two users who have created or edited pages since the third of this month (during the entire past month, one registered user made three edits, and contacts of mine, unregistered on our project, left me messages in a couple places.) So I think it's safe to say we have a consensus. ;-) Additionally, in the near future, I may be taking on some rather complex work that would limit time I can devote to the project. So time may be somewhat more of the essence than in the normal case.

Qualifications: Sonne and I are making this request jointly. Neither of us is comfortable taking on the job alone. Sonne is a native speaker of the project's language, while I have been self-teaching for a month now. On the other side, I have a handle on the tech. I'm currently running a bot, and have become familiar with complex templates and parser functions. I have some knowledge of css and js, and have made good contacts on the English Wikt who have pointed me to their code and explained some of the workings to me.

Sonne and I would both prefer to have an admin who has already served on another project. A diligent effort to find one has been made. I put messages on the discussion pages of prior admins I could locate, both on the wikt project and the sister wp project. Then the general appeal linked above was posted. Another user (one of you guys, perhaps?) posted that he had made an appeal at the village pump on our sister wikipedia site.

Sonne is not registered here, so is not seconding this request on this page. We did not think that would be necessary. Please see the bottom of my local talk page for evidence of our agreement.

Finally, if, for any reason, permanent appointment is deemed inappropriate, please consider this a request in the alternative for other appropriate relief, including but not limited to temporary appointment, or any other remedy as you may see fit.

Thank you. Snakesteuben 10:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Please note that translation of the user interface should *not* be done in the wiki itself, but on Beta-Wiki. Create an account there and ask some bureaucrat there for translator status. These translations are then used in all Wikimedia wikis. --Thogo (talk) 10:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Wow. That was fast. You actually read my user page! Understood, good to know, and will do. So, if the wp people had done it that way, the stuff I was going to copy from them would have magically appeared for us, too? Snakesteuben 11:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
If the WP people had done it on Beta Wiki, you would be able to use these translations on all Wikimedia Wikis, by setting your preference to Frisian. But anyway, I guess the wiki is yet too small to get permanent sysops, so I granted you both temp sysopship for 3 months for any kind of .js and .css maintenance and deleting/blocking and all this kind of stuff. Expiring 29 Jul 2008 Just come here some days before that and drop a note that you want to have it extended (if you want that). So this is Yes check.svg Done. :) --Thogo (talk) 11:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Jack Merridew@id.wikipedia

I request temporary sysop access.

See;

I made edits a few days ago to protected templates (request is on Borgx's talk page here) and broke better than 20,000 pages (on a 90,000 page wiki). The fixes are described in detail on Borgx's talk page. See the screen shots. I would be fine with someone knowledgeable about templates and css chipping in on the talk there or performing the edits.

Thank you. Jack Merridew 11:00, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

For what it is worth, I lend my support here. Jack has shown a lot of interest in the technical setup of id:wp, jv:wp (and also starting to help with en:ws), he has worked very closely with the community on this, and is very unlikely to do anything inappropriate there. I have checked all of the sysops, and there are a few that are active, but not very active, and there are language barriers here as well. I recommend temporary sysop; he should only need half an hour. John Vandenberg 11:42, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, John. I just left a note with w:id:Pembicaraan Pengguna:Jagawana#Margin issue (an id:admin who seems to be on now). There are time zone issues here; I'll be on for a few more hours today and then things will have to go as they may. And I can do this in 2 minutes! And yes, I'm on very good terms with all these 'crats and admins. Cheers, Jack Merridew 11:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I request temporary sysop access.

  • Language Code: wuu
  • List of local sysops: wuu:Special:Listadmins
  • List of local bureaucrats: wuu:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat
  • Preferred duration and reason: I hate to make a second request but all of the current sysops are inactive and there are oh so many copyvios in the image space. I would like access for 1 week to clean this up. Whilst I don't speak the language, with a translator and common sence, I can understand what I am doing.

Thank you. Mww113 13:13, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

And why do you need the sysop tools? Do you have experiences as sysop? --Thogo (talk) 18:32, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, a wiki without an active sysop does not necessarily need one. And if you do not have experiences as sysop, you should not gather them on a wiki without help by other active sysops speaking the language in question... --Thogo (talk) 18:45, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Alison@gvwiki Manx Gaelic Wikipedia

I request temporary sysop and bureaucrat access.

  • Language Code: gv
  • List of local sysops: gv:Special:Listadmins - one temporary one, gv:User:MacTire02
  • List of local bureaucrats: gv:Special:Listusers/bureaucrat - none
  • Local Request Link: gv:User_talk:MacTire02#Bots_on_the_loose_:.29
  • Local User Page: gv:User:Alison
  • Preferred duration and reason: - one week only. I happened to stop by the wiki and noticed that the usual bots are flooding recentchanges with interwiki links to articles, etc. There are also a number of bogus/vandalism-only accounts which need rename. Also, I'd like to establish the Standard Bot Policy over there, so stewards can deal with this in future with minimum issues. MacTire02 - the only sysop - has given assent to my asking for a temp sysop/'crat bit to clean up the wiki[37], fix the bot issues and establish the usual cross-wiki policy, as he's not really sure what to do. I've done this before on gawiki/gawikti/gdwikti so it'll be no issue at all :) I can speak Irish Gaelic and can just about hack reading Manx Gaelic, so can work over there easy enough. Myself and MacTire02 both speak English and Irish so we're okay.

Hi, sorry but the announcement on the local request page is from today, please give the local community some time (a week at least) to respond to Your request, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:10, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Do you wish me to resubmit in a week's time or shall I leave it at that? I only applied today as there are no real active users on the project apart from myself and Norrin Strange who has only been active once in the last month. MacTire02 17:39, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
If You wish we could leave it open here and wait, but if You think there will be no votes, I could offer You a temporary sysop status, because in small communities we do not grant permanent status as the votings are not representative. Technically it is exactly the same, You just come back here shortly before the status expires and let us know everything is fine. If You agree to this offer I would make You temp-sysop for 3 months to start. Best regards (and thanks for joining betawiki for the interface-translations! gv can really need some help over there), --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:45, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Temp-sysop status would be fine. I really can't see there being any votes unfortunately. I'm just really hoping more people would join our community so we could make a proper go of it. I have been on the community only a few months and it is quite dead. I normally don't nominate myself for things but we do need an active sysop to keep things clean there. As regards the betawiki, no problem! Kind regards, --MacTire02 17:53, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done, expires: 12-07-2008, ok, great, I agree, this project needs an active sysop. Please feel free to make a voting as soon as there are some other active users or if not please come back here just some days before Your status expires and we will prolong it then. Thanks, kind regards to You too, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:59, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
P.S. please keep in mind to translate the interface only on the betawiki although it can be alluring to just do it locally :)

I'm a local sysop of wuu. I'm very surprised by this approval. There was no emergency (most of the copyvio were deleted by myself, an imports were quite old).
When there will be a new request for the wuu wikipedia permission, please leave the administrators a message and wait at least one day (of course not if it's a real emergency).

Global rollback for MF-Warburg

Like those above, I do vandalfighting on SWMT (e.g. [38], [39], [40], [41], [42]) and I think global rollback will be helpful for this. MF-W 19:22, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Global rollback for Fabexplosive

Same as other I'm a generally active member of SWMT (some contrib here: ar.wiki, gu.books, fi.quote, it.quote). I could be more helpful with global rb right for speedly rollback vandalism. Thanks --Fabexplosive The archive man 18:57, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Support Support My impression is that this user does a bang up job Fab-ulous good work. ++Lar: t/c 19:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Comment Comment - yes I think that he can use the botton [rollback] :P So, no reasons to say no. --Filnik 20:45, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Comment Comment are there other rollbacks outside his home wiki besides those four linked in the request? I can't find them. IMHO this user is not an active member of SWMT, are userpage creations across projects considered vandal fighting? Does he really need it? Instead of asking why we shouldn't grant him global rollback let's see why we should.--208.97.167.7 21:12, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
