Filing here per request on my talk page; user does not sufficiently understand the interface here to use this page. – Ajraddatz (talk) 00:39, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Also noting that I have some concerns with the request, including a) obvious canvassing, b) an apparent unfamiliarity with the mediawiki interface, and c) the current block on the candidate's homewiki. I don't have time to look into this much, but I wanted to list these concerns even if they may be insignificant to the ultimate granting of the permissions. – Ajraddatz (talk) 00:58, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

No, sorry - I meant that the request for extension was on hold until the 18th, to allow for local community input. I don't think not having the sysop rights a few days is worth the mess of extending an already temporary request. Savhñ 21:50, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

CheckUser access

Multiple@wikispecies

Introduction for all three users application: A local CU policy has been discussed at Wikispecies Village for a number of years, and after this one banned user started with sock puppetry (e.g. has no less than 20 sockpuppets at species:) formal discussions at project level began 2 years ago, ending with a request for [CU Policy Approval 24 April 2015, which was closed 5 May 2015, resulting in consensus for a local CU policy to be established. Dan Koehl (talk) 01:32, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Local elections, announced on Village pump, Massmessage, and at some of the admins talk pages at enwiki, for 4 users nominated to CU was held on Wikispecies from 28 January 2017 until 11 February 2017, with post election discussions 11-13th of February, with the result that 3 passed:

(I am over 18 years of age and have read and signed the privacy policies. I do not have a diff yet it was only signed recently. I have been an editor at Wikispecies since 2006 and an Admin since 2015. Many of the local policies for CU were brought across with links back to Meta by myself and I was heavily involved in previous discussions on this issue at Wikispecies. I have also been editing the English Wikipedia since 2006 and have some edits on Wikidata and the Portuguese Wikipedia. I am happy to serve the WS community as a CU. Apart from my editing role as a professional taxonomist I am interested in policy and the integrity of WS. I am a career acadademic and have served in a number of institutions in sensitive roles with privacy concerns, as such I am experienced with negotiation, respecting the rights of others. On Wikipedia I have on a number of occasions been involved in resolution of edit disputes. Thank you for your consideration.) Faendalimas (talk) 01:49, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Marcelo Victor@ptwiki

As per local policy (which sets CheckUser terms at one year's length), please turn off and on the bit in order to register another term. Thanks, RadiX 10:54, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Not done; if the term continues, there is no consensus for removal. --MF-W 11:05, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
It is not a request for removal. The same was previously done here, here, here and here, as per standard practice. RadiX 11:11, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
It was done, which doesn't mean it made sense. The checkuser policy does not envision temporary CUs. If a local project decides to have terms and then re-elections, it is entirely up to them - requests here just need to be made if a new user should get CU, or if someone should lose it, as a result of the local processes. --MF-W 11:18, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
Not really. Ptwiki local policy determines that the bit should be turned off and then on in order to register another term. Sorry, but there is no wording related to temporary access at CheckUser global policy, and it's not up to you to decide what should not be done in this specific situation either. If it was not allowed per policy, it would not have been done before. :/ RadiX 11:40, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
Your last sentence is spot-on. --MF-W 11:52, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
Pinging @Ajraddatz, MBisanz, and Einsbor: as they attended these previous requests. RadiX 12:55, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
The CheckUser policy says that local policies can be more restrictive than the global one. If they mandate temporary access, then I see no reason why that can't be enforced. As to the physical refreshing of the bit, I agree that it's perhaps unnecessary, but at the same time it takes 2 seconds and doesn't cause any harm either. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:35, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz: I know that this userright change may seem utterly pointless or a waste of time from the outsider's perspective, and it has never been my intention to create a incident here. However, our local policies do emphasize the temporary access, and I only need a link to the physical refreshing of the bit in order to properly archive this request for CheckUser permission. I cannot do that as ptwiki is my homewiki. RadiX 01:43, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
You're a local bureaucrat, therefore you can close the request and stewards can't. Stewards could remove the access if the user was not reelected, but that is not the case here. --MF-W 01:56, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
First, there is no need to be a bureaucrat to close a request for checkuser permission: it's subject to simple-majority vote. Furthermore, restrictions inherent to local policies cannot be ignored as far as they don't override the global checkuser policy, in which, as I previously said, there is no wording regarding temporary access and how should we handle this. Therefore, you can not take a decision based solely in your opinion, as you did here. That is the point. RadiX 03:07, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
The directions to this section do say "Temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by stewards." --Rschen7754 03:21, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
@Rschen7754: I think this refers to users that have not been approved as checkusers through a vote. There is nothing about 'terms' and its lengths here. RadiX 03:38, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
I really wonder what you are trying to achieve here. Reading the local pages, pt:Wikipédia:CheckUser mentions neither term limits nor procedure, while pt:Wikipédia:CheckUser/Candidaturas at least mentions the term limit and the fact that there are no liminations on the number of renewals. However, I can't find anything even slightly indicating a need of such a silly procedure as it has been requested here. Also, I can't see any bureaucrat linking to meta in previous cases where this has been done except for you (once). Imagine all communities started doing this with e.g. admins (like dewiki). What a chaos. --Vogone (talk) 04:06, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
I find this refusal bizarre. The local policy was correctly conveyed by RadiX and it baffles me that such a very simple request is creating such discussion. Chico Venancio (talk) 15:55, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Please point out where the local policy wants this to be done. Even if it did btw, it would be pointless and should not be done. A simple request would also be to give myself the templateeditor right for no reason on enwiki and to remove it then immediately. It would likewise be rejected. —MF-W 02:22, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

@StevenJ81: Considering we have to check the list of oversighters before performing any addition or removal related to these permissions, you could either assume we did and there were indeed 2 (or more) or check the list of oversighters yourself instead of asking the obvious. I don't really get the point of you asking here. Reviewing my action by asking something you could easily check yourself to be correct doesn't really add much value. Some input as a Wikimedia Commons adminstrator. The block was for copyright issues. There was a lot of files uploaded found randomly on the web. These blocks are put more to protect the project and to protect media reusers than to sanction a bad behavior. As soon as Indusian1236 educates themselves about copyright rules to follow on Commons, they're most very welcome to contribute there.
Trusted users from other projects, including sysops, are fairly regularly blocked on Commons for copyright issue.
Local uploads are disabled on sd, but accessible to administrators. Yet, according a Google translation of the candidature text, the contributor doesn't list "upload media" in the tasks they intend to do. --Dereckson (talk) 12:13, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

May you consider sysopship for 9 months Avi (talk)? Trunzep (talk) 15:36, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
We usually start with 3, then 6, and then settle on a recurring 12. You have a total of 17 edits on the project; I'd suggest following the usual process. -- Avi (talk) 15:38, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
Will you consider 3 months then? Trunzep (talk) 15:44, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
If you post the notice on the local project in the appropriate place (requests for admin, local village pump, etc.) and there is no significant opposition within about a week, you should receive temporary admin status for at least 3 months. That's how it usually works Face-smile.svg. -- Avi (talk) 15:51, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Ok, Trunzep is still very fresh. On the other hand wikamusi is in a deplorable state and got filled up with lots of garbage from people or bots who dump entries from other languages there for what reason so ever. We have no active community over there, our resources are concentrated on sw:wikipedia. SO I agree with Muddy ("Wikipedian") to give that young man a try. Muddy agreed to keep an eye on him. Give him that status and the right to throw out stuff. Would be easier if you just gave same status to all active admins on sw:wikipedia, once in a while (not often) several of us have a look over there. and btw; our internal discussions are in Swahili. There have a few active user like 4/5 person. And the other user use wikibooks for only reading. May be they see my previous work when I have a temporary adminship. But There have some important user who are most important person in other wiki project like bangla Wikipedia admin, CheckUser. They give me support vote to seeing my activity and you can see there have no objection. The persons who have most active in this wikis (4/5 person), they give me support vote. Before this submission, I had pasted an temporary adminship, So I know what is it. I believe that 100% active user give me support and some reader give me aslo. So, I can not found any problem to get this permission permanently. This wiki is soo week and I make it strong-শাহাদাত সায়েম (talk) 02:38, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Not depending on whoever the users supporting are, a community that small that most users voting on it are not involved in the community leaves us unable to grant permanent adminship. Savhñ 03:05, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
but all the active user gave me support though they are a few number. But they who are most active in the community, they give me support vote and no objection-শাহাদাত সায়েম (talk) 03:32, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
The purpose of an RFA is to poll the community. Users whose only edit is to vote in your RFA are not community, therefore we can't count them as valid votes. We can grant you temporary adminship for 3 or 6 months, renewable if there's no opposition from the community to do so. Subsequent renewals will be for more time (6 months, 9 months, 1 year (max.)) and if in the meanwhile the community grows to a certain stage, we can consider granting you permanent adminship. —MarcoAurelio 12:38, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Done Granted for 6 months to expire on 2017-02-26. There's consensus that permanent adminship cannot be granted at this stage. A new period of six months adminship has been given. —MarcoAurelio 17:28, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Done Granted for 6 months to expire on 2017-02-13. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. --MF-W 02:44, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

What is the reason that this permission is required, and for what duration do you need it? – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:02, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz: Too few people having it, too slow processing of import requests, would like to have it for good. --Flominator (talk) 19:16, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. Importer flag added. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:18, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
