AlwynapHuw@cyws

In the last week, the 1 bot Admin on cyws (Welsh Wikisource) has been taken from the bot, leaving room for a new, second, permanent Admin. The discussions on local wikisource was 100% in agreement for Alwyn to become a permanent Admin.. Reasons: for developing cyws, renaming pages, importing specialised code for fonts and other transcription formatting etc. This can be only done by an Admin. Your [https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Permissions/Minimum_voting_requirements Requirements' does not mention this scenario, these rights. No reasonable reason has been given for limiting the number of Admins. In fact, the discussion by ws editors mentions that all appointments should be made locally, and not globally by Meta. Please link to any discussions on this matter. Alwyn has more edits on cyws than any other editor. Not giving him permanent Admin status will result in Alwyn (and the rest of us) leaving cy-WS; this is not a threat but a statement of fact, outlined in the linked ws discussion and elsewhere (Twitter etc). Llywelyn2000 (talk) 08:59, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

All these discussion are quite old. Ruslik (talk) 20:55, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A few months. The 100% support for Adminship, and my above reasons, and all comments are equally valid regardless of time. @Ruslik0: Can you explain in what way is your comment helpful? Llywelyn2000 (talk) 03:48, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We consider "A few months" to be stale RFP. People's conduct changes, and the same person who could pass RFA few months ago could not pass tonight. (Generally speaking. Not about this case.) It could also be stacking up RFP votes forever until they have enough support vote. (Generally unnecessary for RFA because for adminship it just needs no oppose votes.) — regards, Revi 03:59, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see 'no oppose votes' (or comments for that matter) were given. So the fact that this ongoing application was started a few months ago, doesn't effect the application? Secondly jfyi - Alwyn's 6 months temp Adminship has just come to an end. Hence this application. Another temp Adminship is not requested; this is for permanent Admin rights only. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 04:39, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, the fact that it is months old is a full stop here. It has to be recent, preferably max a month or two (people forget to file SRP, we can accept slightly old RFPs but this is way too old discussion). Whether perma-admin or temp-admin is requested here does not matter in this case. — regards, Revi 05:03, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Minority language Wikis don't tend to have the same strength in depth as English Wikipedia and allowances need to be made accordingly. Deb (talk) 12:01, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a RFP page and votes cast here is not considered. — regards, Revi 12:08, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In addition it appears to be the same discussion that was used once to grant a temp adminship. It should be considered closed now. Ruslik (talk) 20:56, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't understand the problem. In the last 9 months I have created 50 books to readable standard on Wicidestun and uploaded many more books, some via a scanner bought and paid for by Wiki UK, to enable me to create more content on Wicidestun. As an individual my percentage of contributions would make me a Global Steward if those contributions had been in English or other large languages! Your lack of understanding of the needs of lesser used languages is disappointing! I am basically the ONLY contributor to this wiki and need to be an administrator to keep it going in the face of opposition to fom imperialistic arrogance AlwynapHuw (talk)
Actually, Steward-ship requires more of a janitorial work dealing with spambots, trolls, and other administrative works rather than content work. Also, don't worry about my "understanding of the need of lesser used languages"- while I don't speak it, I know some folks from Jeju language, which have FAR less speaker than Welsh (enwiki reports 800K for Welsh, and 5K for Jeju).
So to reiterate, as we tell you from {{Systmp}} (the template to mark SRPs as done; see examples section), you need to "start another election a few days before your temporary access expires" and use the NEW election for a NEW SRP. This is how things work in SRP and smaller wikis. — regards, Revi 08:14, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The only way we will grant you adminship (either temp or perma):
  1. Start a new RFA.
  2. Link it here. We will start 7 days counter.
  3. After 7 days, we will see if there's an opposition on candidate.
  4. If there is none, and we see no concerns about you, we will grant you the right (either temp or perma).
  5. If you are granted temp-sysop, repeat 1~4 each time temp-sysop expires.
We are not going to grant you adminship otherwise, however hard you try to convince us. Even I (as a Steward) am subject to the same requirement, i.e. SRP 2020-07. Yes, I've been through 7 RfAs, even if that sounds bureaucratic. That's how it works. — regards, Revi 08:22, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is the first time I'm seeing this request here on Meta, and my response to your request on the project didn't have anything to do with it. Additionally, that response, and the fact that I did accept your request, would normally strengthen, not weaken, a request for (interface) adminship. I would personally like more people to have administrator and interface administrator rights on Persian Wiktionary, especially due to the fact that we have lost two administrators and it's only me and Mardetanha now.
However, I oppose both this request and the one for adminship for User:Beginneruser, because I believe that, contrary to their username, they are not a "beginner." In my opinion, their actions and their level of familiarity with Wikimedia projects does not match that of a new user. On Persian Wikipedia, they were asked to publicly or privately reveal their previous account(s) and/or activity, but they repeatedly said that they did not have any other accounts, which led to an indefinite block. I have not blocked them on Persian Wiktionary because I have no reason to believe that they have been active there using their previous account(s). However, administrator and, especially, interface administrator rights are, in my opinion, too sensitive to be granted in this case. Ahmadtalk 13:51, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Read again, "similar behavior" between two Iranian Arab users, it's clearly a discrimination if can't be called racism. Locally there is no way, democracy and dialogue has not place there. He feels no responsibility about user's right. I do not want go to the judiciary, it can not be the right choice, especially since I do not believe in the legitimacy of the Iranian system. I can't belive Wikipedia's motto while there is no local guarantee for its implementation. Please don't say it's not your business, I can take the case of Chinese Wikipedia as an example. @Ruslik0: Yes, I know, they're abuse filters, but they're blocked admin-accounts. AlPaD (talk) 06:52, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"there's really no point in trying to act against a system user" said once a developer when we desysop'ed them on fiwiki. It doesn't make sense to remove sysop rights as they will get them back automatically (granted by the system). Stryn (talk) 10:47, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Stryn: OK, thank you for information, but should the blocks be removed? AlPaD (talk) 11:08, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I respectfully disagree on not removing these bits. The abuse filter account name nowadays is Parzûnê tecizi. Every other past account used by the abusefilter extension should have its permissions removed for security purposes. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 09:21, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MarcoAurelio: So the best idea is the desysop of the Filtreyê Peygoşi and the Parzûnê tacizi and the unblock of the Parzûnê tecizi? AlPaD (talk) 13:58, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AlPaD: My idea would be to desysop them all and unblock diq:User:Parzûnê tecizi as the current abuse filter account name. AbuseFilter does not need sysop permissions to operate. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:25, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MarcoAurelio: OK, sounds like a good idea. AlPaD (talk) 11:09, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MarcoAurelio:, Once after the renaming on TranslateWiki in UkWiki also another filter appeared, the rights were simply removed from the old one. --Mykola talk 11:17, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse filters@diqwikipedia

This is a sock puppet from a certain person who vandalized and thus terrorized for years. I wonder how it is possible for someone to gain admin status without legal elections? No one, in any case, elected him to do so. So why is his abuse still not recognized and removed? -- Mirzali (talk) 05:39, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

X mark.svg Not done @Mirzali This is a system account (its name is configured via diq:MediaWiki:Abusefilter-blocker). This mean the account is created by and operated by MediaWiki itself – no real user can log into this account and use it. You can verify this by checking Special:UserRights/Parzûnê tecizi at diqwiki (it says "This user is a system user"). MediaWiki assigned the account sysop permissions to indicate it is intended to perform sysop-level actions (among other things, it can automatically blocks bad users if an abuse filter is configured that way, see metawiki log for an example). Since the account is a system one, removing its permissions will not have any effect.
I hope this explanation makes sense to you. If not, please feel free to ask any questions -- I'll do my best to answer. I'm also CCing @Daimona Eaytoy, who is one of the maintainers of the AbuseFilter extension.

Sajad@fa.wikiquote, Mardetanha@fa.wikiquote

As an active user of a project, I request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity. Both User:Sajad and Mardetanha are inactivie, Sajad for more than two year, and Mardetanha, well is not active from the first, 7 Augt 2007, He has not done any useful work for the project; Every ping leaves him unanswered, most of his contributions are minor edits not very active while there is active users, he does not care about any of the programs that other active users suggest for the progress of the project. Be active or resign. There are also concerns about abuse, another admin of fa.wikiquote. Farhang2016, did not treat me well, accused me of sockpuppetry but Mardetanha did not interfere. There is no way for local discussion too, lack of active users, actually I'm the only one there. I feel Farhang basically does not talk and discuss, he likes silence and instructs users to only participate in content and be silent and not participate in any discussion. I am the only living person in that cemetery!

I like to say that if any Iranian Arab user appears in any Farsi project, they call him/her as sock of Chyah, There is a chaos of sockophobic monster about Chyah in all Persian project, they block any user they pleaseant with no reason under excuse of Chyah's sock. But Mardetanha whos is active in WMF, a bureaucrat and admin in fa.wikiquote does nothing, he has forgotten even simple tasks and does not show any reaction to the harassment of users, eespecially multilingual-cultural users. I pinged him many times about UCoC local situation, no reply. Today I confirm that he is not active, he is an inactive user with more access in fa.wikiquote. With Regards. --Ruwaym (talk) 08:36, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Ruwaym, thank you for making the request. Does fa.wikiquote have any inactivity policy that should be applied here? If there's such a policy, please link it here, so we can take a look and review the situation.
If there is no inactivity policy specific to fa.wikiquote, then the global one (AAR) applies. Inactivity on projects with no local inactivity policy is reviewed annually by the stewards – more details about the last round of reviews can be found at Admin activity review/2021. As far as I know, none of the users you mention met the AAR criteria during the last round of reviews.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know -- I'll be happy to clarify. Sincerely, Martin Urbanec (talk) 09:20, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Martin thank you for replying speedy. As I said, basically any discussion outside of the articles is almost forbidden there; If I start such topic - inactivity policy - they will be accuse me of "disrupting" and then blockme for infinite, with no right of emailing or editing talkpage. They love blocking, actually they don't reply you but block you easily.
It's better to take a closer look at his contributions out of a 365-day calendar, someone might be Inactive for 364 days and send Christmas greetings on the last day to escape AAR. Mardentanha is not active, he may do minor edits every year, he has done so for all the years he has had such access. But that's this is not only problem, I think he has lost his bureaucratic qualifications; Because not doing his duties and protecting the system and society. For example, if a troll attacks me right now, he and the other admin will not react. Why? Because they consider me a sockpuppet, and why they call me a sockpuppeter of Chyah? because Sunfyre said that. They can not realize that there are millions of Arabs living in their own country, they are "Iranian Arabs", and every Iranian Arab user is not Chyah. I talked about this issue before, no one cares. Just blocking user is matter.
I'm sure trolls will attack me soon, all my virtual information will be stolen, I am terrified and I will be spied on, I will be harassed more, As I was harassed, both in the real and virtual world; But what is the reaction of Mardetanha and Farhang? Nothing. Both are indirectly feeding the trolls. In my opinion, Mardentanha is not only inactive, but also disqualified. Because of what happened to Chyah, it will probably happen to me as well. There is no guarantee for protection of users there, or in any of the Persian projects. They just do blocking users.
I repeat again, Mardetanha is inactive, I pinged him a lot of times, not replying us, and I am an active user in fa.wikiquote.org I wanna see some active users with more access, not sleeping ones. Ruwaym (talk) 10:43, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sajad is really not active, about Mardetanha It's so much better that If he can guarantee about saftey of users and UCoC applying in fa.wikiquote. He is silent, not repyling, please tell him to be more active or resign, tell him to protect fa.wikiquote users or leave his access. I can't contribute under the shadow of a sockophobic monster who terrifies any Iranian Arab to Infinite block. Thank you again Martin. Ruwaym (talk) 14:15, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(non-steward comment) Without commenting on the validity of the allegations above - may be worth reviewing User:Rschen7754/Help, my wiki went rogue! for suggestions in cases like this. --Rschen7754 21:19, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

X mark.svg Not done Thanks everyone. To summarize the policy, admins can be generally removed by stewards in three cases: 1) following an inactivity policy 2) following a clear community decision (ArbCom decision, failed reconfirmation, removal RfC, etc.) 3) in an emergency, following a clear abuse of rights. Ad 1) Inactivity removal can't happen, because there's no local inactivity policy (AAR reviews are handled separately). Ad 2) AFAICS, there is no community decision mandating the removal. Ad 3) I can't find any admin action that would be clearly an abuse of the rights. In addition to that, I also don't see any reasons why to consider this case an emergency. Taking all those together, I don't see a reason to remove their sysop rights. Thank you for your understanding, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:14, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
