Before posting here[edit]

Please list the specific projects that you need to be renamed in under your request, unless you are requesting a global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
|status =
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent to stewards(at) (direct wiki-email interface).

Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

(Also, you've filed a duplicate request at w:en:WP:CHUS as well; please file only one request, as making multiple requests will not speed up your request.) —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:13, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified at least one month before usurpation.

Красный Партизан@global[edit]

Yes, please, login in into the old account. Ruslik (talk) 10:56, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
Nope, try is failed and I don't know what to do next. I tried to change password by email, but none of my 3 mailboxes received the mail. O_o Красный Партизан (talk) 19:19, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
The account has zero contributions. So, it can be usurped anyway. Ruslik (talk) 20:35, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
Then, just do it! :) Красный Партизан (talk) 22:02, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
@Красный Партизан: We have to follow the existing procedure. Please notify the user about this request, then we can usurp the account after 30 days. --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:14, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Ok, where do I need to notify myself, in Wikivoyage? Account does not exists on Meta. 18:16, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunately deleting account is not possible, maybe we can usurp it? — regards, Revi 18:33, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
The Horadrim does exist, and it does have edits; 58 global edits as of this writing. That does matter, and it may prohibit us from usurping it (It will definitely prohibit us from deleting it, if it was possible to delete accounts). —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:34, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
OK, does that mean that perhaps the only way to accomplish this is for you to change the name on the MGromov account to a slightly different version of Horadrim?      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 14:46, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
The answer to that is also no. The target account has been recently active, as such the requesting account will be too similar if renamed to a similar name. The only way to proceed is if the requesting user can establish ownership of the target account. If the target can login to that account and post here confirming ownership, the usurp can proceed. We cannot really merge accounts. The existing tools are unreliable, and the new merge tool's development has been suspended.—cyberpower ChatHello! 15:59, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi! Thanks for cleaning up our mess, and I apologize for the confusion. I am here writing to establish that I am the owner of the currently blocked user account MGromov, which was initially described as a collective user, and consequently the owner of all files that this user has uploaded on the Commons. I have created the MGromov user to control my workflow and achievements as a Wikipedian-in-residence at the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (NeuroMat). The document that demonstrates my current activity at NeuroMat is available on the Commons, and I may direct you to this document if you think this is useful. My main concern here is that, because of an initial confusion, all files that were uploaded as MGromov are deleted. As I understand, this can be avoided, which is great info. Another concern refers to making clear that these contributions of mine were not done as an "individual volunteer" but as part of an official position as a Wikipedian-in-residence, which has actually been discussed with members of the WMF, such as Ijon. This concern has led me to obviously disclaiming my official affiliation when I created the user MGromov (i.e., stating that this user would not take part of votes and other decision-making procedures). I am sorry for not knowing in advance the peculiarities of the Commons user-name policy. I am not fully aware of the usurping process: would this only affect my account on the Commons? What will happen to all contributions I have done as MGromov, or even the user page? If you look at my user page on pt.wikipedia, you will see that I use it as a means of controlling my activity, so it is important that I do not lose all this info (MGromov on pt.wikipedia). Joalpe, who leads my team at NeuroMat, and myself will check this page to understand what we ought to do. Thanks! Horadrim (talk) 18:33, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming. The usurping process is as follows. First the old account Horadrim, and all of it's pages on every wiki, will be renamed to a different name. The your MGromov, and all of it's user pages on every wiki, will be renamed to Horadrim. Passwords on both accounts will be preserved respectively. Do you wish to proceed?—cyberpower ChatHello! 20:10, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for the support Cyberpower678, I understand it a little bit better now, and yes, I would like to proceed. What step should I take from now? Horadrim (talk) 01:44, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, Cyberpower678 and Horadrim for your attention to this. I'll leave it in your hands, as I am winding down in preparation for being mostly away from the Internet for eight weeks.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:23, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

SMcCandlish@global – LDAP error, no Phabricator access[edit]

  • Clerk note: Hello! User:SMcCandlish, this is a page for rename requests.--~MMGJ~ (talk) 11:24, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
    • Hopefully you or someone else knows where to point me. I've made half a dozen requests across WMF sites to get this resolved over the last 18 months or so, all to no avail. Grasping at whatever I can at this point. I figure any conglomeration of stewards able to fix user names are likely also able to fix problems with username/pw recognition by the system, or at least know where to go to resolve that kind of issue. I should clarify here that I cannot file a standard bug report about this, because that has to be done at Phabricator, which I cannot log into.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  11:28, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
Interesting, we have someone clerking the username requests page after signing up for an account only three days ago. Not to mention their message wasn't that helpful.
@SMcCandlish: There isn't anything we can do here because this page is for SUL-related username changes, and Phabricator, AFAIK, is something different. I see that you've already asked at mw:Talk:Phabricator/Help; that page is unfortunately your best bet. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:24, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
I should point out that the LDAP error, is likely a problem over at Wikitech, IIRC. Did you try to login with the OAuth option?—cyberpower ChatHello! 16:03, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Symbol comment vote.svg Clerk note: Since Special:CentralAuth/Gaspard exists and has a substantial number of contributions, I believe the only way you'll be able to get your username back is by asking the user and them saying yes to being renamed, since we can't force users to change their usernames. Omni Flames (talk) 11:04, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
X mark.svg Not done As Omni Flames said, the target user has over 1,000 edits. That's far too many to usurp. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:13, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Comment: The target username has 3 (now deleted) uploads to Commons [1]. Omni Flames (talk) 01:03, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks to the quick response - change or not? I 'm in FaWiki broad participation (High Activity) and for me this is an important change. Please ...--Derakhshan52 (talk) 07:50, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Please notify the target user of the request with {{usurpation requested}}.—cyberpower ChatHello! 16:06, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

  • Clerk Note: Username MB is already in use. See CentralAuth.
Hello! Mb66w, please choose another username for you. Thanks, ~MMGJ~ (talk) 09:30, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
    • Comment the target username has only one global edit, which is to pl.wikipedia. However, it's quite a minor one [2] and the user doesn't appear to have any other activity. Omni Flames (talk) 09:59, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
    • I know.--~MMGJ~ (talk) 10:08, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
    • ~MMGJ~, please read the user's request carefully. They wish to usurp the username; please do not blindly tell them to pick a new one. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:23, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
The target username does not have any substantial edits. Please notify the target user on their home wiki, with {{usurpation requested}} if possible.—cyberpower ChatHello! 16:09, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
I put the template on [3] but it does not expand on that wiki. Should I do something further? Mb66w (talk) 17:53, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
I went ahead and put in the text from the template without using the actual template, but I do not know if this is sufficient. Mb66w (talk) 18:18, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Time2wait.svg On hold until July 28 2016.—cyberpower ChatHello! 20:05, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Though the connection might be fairly obvious, I can't find any definitive connection to your main account. That's a small issue most likely. What strikes me as a bigger concern is that your old bot account was blocked for abuse and had it's bot flag revoked. I'd like to hear some background about that first.—cyberpower ChatHello! 16:18, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
I'm even more alarmed about the ridiculous amount of Munja accounts there are and how different ones are blocked on different wikis for different, one of them being abusing multiple accounts. I'd preferably like to hear more about those too.—cyberpower ChatHello! 16:22, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I was making disruption 2 years ago (by not knowing rules that having multiple account is forbidden), but I got unblocked via Standard Offer on EN Wiki and locked all other accounts. This is connection between my old account and bot. If ever merging edits will be available, I will merge all my edits in this single account. I will resolve block status for Munjabot on BS Wiki because that's where I edit mostly. --Munja (talk) 16:57, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Okay. I can accept that. However, can you please resolve the block first. Since that is your primary wiki and your old bot has 18,000 edits, it's not unreasonable to ask for the bot to be unblocked there first before proceeding with the usurp.—cyberpower ChatHello! 17:01, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Yes check.svg Done Now you can proceed. :D --Munja (talk) 17:41, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
