This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request. This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Before posting here[edit]

Please list the specific projects that you need to be renamed in under your request, unless you are requesting a global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
|status =
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified at least one month before usurpation.

Status:    Not done

Continuing from here which got archived while I was on vacation. @K6ka: Please do it. Whether the editor is currently active is irrelevant, the point here is repairing informational damage caused by the renaming of the user. Thanks. — Scott talk 01:12, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

@Scott: If there's anybody that can do anything about this, it's a steward, and I'm unfortunately not one (The most I can do is to rename the entire global account which would probably make things worse). —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 01:20, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Oh, I see, because you marked the request as not done I thought you were a steward. Hopefully one can help. — Scott talk 01:22, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
It would be technically possible to complete this request, but with the user inactive I'm not seeing any strong need to. There are no attribution issues with the two usernames, and if they ever come back the accounts can be merged. There's no way of fully merging them while the user isn't active anyway. – Ajraddatz (talk) 06:16, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Why do you not consider basic data integrity and maintaining the historical record a strong need? Like I agreed on the original post, a full merge isn't necessary, just renaming the enwiki user back to what it was. Thanks, — Scott talk 22:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Data integrity is already there; there are no attribution issues with changing a username, even in a forced way with SUL finalization. We could go through and fix all these errors with SUL finalization, but unless it is at the request of the user I don't see much need to. I'm not closing this as not done though, if another steward wants to action this I won't object. It just seem like a make-work project to me (not necessarily this one case, but the precedent of trying to fix every other error without involving the actual user in question). I hope that makes some sense. – Ajraddatz (talk) 01:02, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
In a purely mechanistic sense data integrity is there. But as presented to the human user of the system, it isn't. Every link to that user's user page and user talk page on enwiki is now red. Yes, you can click a red user link and be presented with a message saying the user has been renamed; but you also may not be presented with one. This extremely poor UX is a consequence of the extremely poor implementation of the system, and will probably never be resolved given current development practices. Such a situation is barely tolerable for users that were forcibly renamed for the legitimate reason of a conflict, but pointless to allow to exist in the case of a user that was renamed unnecessarily. As an enwiki admin with a particular interest in maintaining the integrity of the archive for readers - who have been our prime consideration in building this project since day 1 - I hope another steward will rectify this. By the way, regarding "make-work", I'm pretty sure you've now spent more time arguing against doing this than it would have taken to do it in the first place. — Scott talk 13:09, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps another steward would care to comment. — Scott talk 21:14, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
We can't merge local accounts into a global one - a developer needs to do that. Unless that is done, the account remains unlinked from SUL and would possibly eventually be moved back away. So, IMO, not worth the hassle. Should he be active and willing to merge his own account by accessing Special:MergeAccount, it'd be a different matter. Closing as not done. Original request filed at en:Special:Permalink/761188209 here. This request was moved from enwp usurpation request to meta usurpation request per target account not existing locally. I have notified the target account on their home talk page (on the German Wikipedia) here. --JustBerry (talk) 19:18, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Time2wait.svg On hold until February 21, 2017. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:19, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

@Gacelp: Do you own both accounts? If so, please log in a make a confirmation edit both with Gacelp and Gacelperfinian and post the diff links here. If ownership of both accounts is confirmed, there's no need to wait for a month. We would usurp Gacelperfinian and then move back Gacelp to Gacelperfinian. —MarcoAurelio 17:33, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
Unfortunately, no, I don't have access to it. - Gacelp (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:51, 29 January 2017‎ (UTC).

@SMAUG: please notify the target user on his enwiki talk page, see the instructions. --Stryn (talk) 20:07, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
@Stryn:, thanks for the information. Now I've notifid him. --SMAUG (TalkMy contributions) 20:25, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

@Hawajez: Please notify the target account. After a month & unless he replies, we will proceed with the usurpation. Savhñ 00:44, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Scott Martin 2@global[edit]

@Scott: Please notify the target account & allow for a month for a possible reply. Savhñ 00:45, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

@Burakolik: The account can be usurped (all its edits are non-constructive), but please notify the user on their talk page on Swedish Wikipedia of your intention using the this message. Savhñ 00:49, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

  • Hello @Savh:, I did it now. Would you check? Thank you. Burakolik (talk) 09:38, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

AJORDAN (talk) 18:36, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

Please notify the target account on their talk page, for instance with this message. The account was not created last year, but probably predating account creation logs. Savhñ 20:03, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Done. I also meant to say 2 years ago as that is what the Special:CentralAuth gave. AJORDAN (talk) 21:10, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
On hold until the 18th of March, to allow a normal month for possible opposition. The global account was created two years ago as part of the SUL finalisation, but it's likely the account itself was created before 2006. Savhñ 21:32, 16 February 2017 (UTC)

Kasun g92[edit]

@Kasun g92: Please notify the target account on their talk page, for instance with this message.--Alaa :)..! 10:15, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Since all the edits by Bankster have been immediately reverted and in no way contributed to the project, I think it's usurpable. Please leave a message, such as the this one, on the user's talk page. After that, it'll be on hold for a month. Savhñ 22:01, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
It's already done. I'll be waiting for a resolution. Thank you. -Bankster1 (talk) 01:48, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
