This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request. This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Before posting here[edit]

Please list the specific projects that you need to be renamed in under your request, unless you are requesting a global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified at least one month before usurpation.

Artix Krieger[edit]

Time2wait.svg On hold until 20 Feb --Alaa :)..! 01:55, 20 January 2018 (UTC)
@علاء:, to be clear, I want to keep my name as it is, but that account renamed so I can create it. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 22:00, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
@Artix Kreiger: If that is the case, then you should make an alternative account now through Special:CreateAccount from your main account and post here from that account to confirm it is yours. Then, when the waiting period is over, we can rename the alt account to Artix Krieger via usurpation. Nihlus 22:14, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
I have special:centralauth/Artix Kreiger 2, Is that ok? --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 22:18, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
@Artix Kreiger: That wouldn't be a good candidate given its edit count. You don't necessarily have to create a new account, though it may be easier for the renamers. We can just rename the existing account to Artix Krieger (usurped) and then allow you to create the account Artix Krieger. We still have to wait the requisite 30 days, but let us know which way you would like to go. I'll update the template accordingly. Nihlus 06:36, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
@Nihlus:, You're right. I want to create the account instead. Lets go with your suggestion. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 14:08, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Okay, we'll rename Artix KriegerArtix Krieger (usurped) and then let you create it. I've updated the template. Nihlus 19:34, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Just as a clarification, we CAN rename that account, but you would have to be absolutely certain you want us to, and we would need to get a sysadmin to monitor the rename for possible complications, but it can be done.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:55, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Since the beginning, the user asked to make (Artix Krieger) available, so he can create a new account under this name. Also, if he want to change (Artix Kreiger 2) to (Artix Krieger) we can do that. Everything goes back to the user --Alaa :)..! 16:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678 and علاء: We can theoretically rename any account, but that account would not be a good candidate given my reasons stated above and given the fact that it would be an active doppleganger account, which is prohibited on some wikis (namely w:en:WP:DOPP). Nihlus 19:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
I think Nihlus is on the right track here. Alternative accounts should usually be identifiable as such; i.e. be "Ajraddatz_alt" rather than "Ajreddatz". The latter is just confusing. Further, the global rename policy is intended to allow users to rename their primary accounts - it speaks nothing of an endless series of alts. I think that we can, and should, be a bit more picky when processing these requests. In this case, I don't think it's a viable use of server resources to rename an alt account with 100,000+ edits to this name, and for the user to actively edit with it. Better to usurp the name, and then allow them to create it if they wish. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
True to both users.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 19:53, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Actually, I just want the IE account (the 0-edit one) to be usurped so i can create it. (Don't rename my alt). If there is no true need, then i'll withdraw. Thanks. --Artix Kreiger (Message Wall) 20:07, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

@Zppix: if you want it locked, then wouldn't you add in a request on Steward requests/Global for this account? --Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 15:16, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
I somehow doubt that would be a good reason to lock the account. I would recommend usurping it so you can create a doppelgänger account.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:11, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
@Zppix: After the 30 day wait period, we can rename Zippix to Zippix (usurped) which will then allow you to create the doppelganger account and control it yourself (include having it blocked). Is that what you want to do? Nihlus 16:50, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Sure lets do that Nihlus Zppix (talk) 17:03, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
